| 1 Tinha já chegado o sétimo mês, e os filhos de Israel estavam nas suas cidades, quando o povo se reuniu como um só homem em Jerusalém. | 1 Now when the seventh month came, after the Israelites had settled in their cities, the people gathered at Jerusalem as one man. |
| 2 Josué, filho de Josedec, levantou-se com seus irmãos sacerdotes, com Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, e seus irmãos, e começaram a edificar o altar do Deus de Israel, para oferecerem nele holocaustos, conforme o que está escrito na lei de Moisés, homem de Deus. | 2 Then Jeshua, son of Jozadak, together with his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, together with his brethren, set about rebuilding the altar of the God of Israel in order to offer on it the holocausts prescribed in the law of Moses, the man of God. |
| 3 Colocaram o altar de Deus sobre as suas bases, apesar de os povos dos países circunvizinhos lhes incutirem terror, e ofereceram ao Senhor sobre o altar o holocausto da manhã e da tarde. | 3 Despite their fear of the peoples of the land, they replaced the altar on its foundations and offered holocausts to the LORD on it, both morning and evening. |
| 4 Depois celebraram a solenidade dos tabernáculos, como está prescrito, e ofereceram o holocausto quotidiano, segundo a sua ordem, conforme está mandado observar, dia por dia. | 4 They also kept the feast of Booths in the manner prescribed, and they offered the daily holocausts in the proper number required for each day. |
| 5 Depois disto, ofereceram o holocausto perpétuo, os das neoménias e de todas as solenidades consagradas ao Senhor, assim como os daqueles que faziam uma oferta espontânea ao Senhor. | 5 Thereafter they offered the established holocaust, the sacrifices prescribed for the new moons and all the festivals sacred to the LORD, and those which anyone might offer as a free-will gift to the LORD. |
| 6 Desde o primeiro dia do sétimo mês começaram a oferecer o holocausto ao Senhor, porém ainda não tinham sido lançados os fundamentos do templo de Deus. | 6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer holocausts to the LORD, though the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not yet been laid. |
| 7 Deram dinheiro aos canteiros e carpinteiros, e deram víveres, bebidas e azeite aos Sidónios e aos Tirios, para que transportassem madeira de cedro do Líbano, por mar, até Jope, conforme o que lhes linha ordenado Ciro, rei dos Persas. | 7 Then they hired stonecutters and carpenters, and sent food and drink and oil to the Sidonians and Tyrians that they might ship cedar trees from the Lebanon to the port of Joppa, as Cyrus, king of Persia, had authorized. |
| 8 No segundo ano da sua chegada ao (lugar do) templo de Deus em Jerusalém, no segundo mês, Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, e Josué, filho de Josedec, e os outros seus irmãos sacerdotes e Levitas, bem como todos os que tinham vindo do cativeiro para Jerusalém, puseram mãos à obra e encarregaram os Levitas, de vinte anos para cima, de vigiar os trabalhos do templo do Senhor. | 8 In the year after their coming to the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, son of Jozadak, together with the rest of their brethren, the priests and Levites and all who had come from the captivity to Jerusalem, began by appointing the Levites twenty years of age and over to supervise the work on the house of the LORD. |

| 10 Lançados, pois, os fundamentos do templo do Senhor pelos pedreiros, apresentaram-se os sacerdotes revestidos dos seus ornamentos e com as trombetas, e os Levitas, filhos de Asaf, com címbalos, para louvarem a Deus com os salmos de David, rei de Israel. | 10 When the builders had laid the foundation of the LORD'S temple, the vested priests with the trumpets and the Levites, sons of Asaph, were stationed there with the cymbals to praise the LORD in the manner laid down by David, king of Israel. |
| 11 Cantavam hinos e davam glória ao Senhor (dizendo): Que ele é bom, e é eterna a sua misericórdia sobre Israel. Todo o povo também levantava grandes clamores, louvando o Senhor, por terem sido lançados os fundamentos do templo do Senhor. | 11 They alternated in songs of praise and thanksgiving to the LORD, "for he is good, for his kindness to Israel endures forever"; and all the people raised a great shout of joy, praising the LORD because the foundation of the LORD'S house had been laid. |
| 12 Muitos dos sacerdotes, dos Levitas, dos chefes das familias e dos anciãos, que tinham visto o primeiro templo, vendo lançar diante dos seus olhos os fundamentos deste outro templo, choravam em alta voz; (por outro lado) muitos soltavam gritos de alegria, de contentamento. | 12 Many of the priests, Levites, and family heads, the old men who had seen the former house, cried out in sorrow as they watched the foundation of the present house being laid. Many others, however, lifted up their voices in shouts of joy, |
| 13 Ninguém podia distinguir os gritos dos que se regozijavam, da voz de choro do povo, porque o povo gritava confusamente com grande clamor, cujo ruído se ouvia ao longe. | 13 and no one could distinguish the sound of the joyful shouting from the sound of those who were weeping; for the people raised a mighty clamor which was heard afar off. |
