Acab, à sua chegada, mandou matar muitos carneiros e bois para ele e para o povo que com ele tinha ido, e persuadiu-o a que marchasse contra Ramot de Galaad. | 2 After some years he went down to Ahab at Samaria; Ahab offered numerous sheep and oxen for him and the people with him, and persuaded him to go up against Ramoth-gilead. |
| 3 Acab, rei de Israel, disse a Josafat, rei de Judá: Vem comigo contra Ramot de Galaad. Josafat respondeu-lhe: Farei o que tu fizeres, o meu povo fará o que fizer o teu: iremos contigo à guerra. | 3 Ahab, king of Israel, asked Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, "Will you come with me to Ramoth-gilead?" | 5 O rei de Israel juntou quatrocentos profetas (falsos) e disse-lhes: Devemos nós ir atacar Ramot de Galaad, ou deixai-nos estar quietos? Eles responderam: Vai, que Deus a entregará nas mãos do rei. | 5 The king of Israel gathered his prophets, four hundred in number, and asked them, "Shall we go to attack Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Go up," they answered. "God will deliver it over to the king." |
| 6 Josafat disse: Não há aqui algum profeta do Senhor, para também o consultarmos? | 6 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no other prophet of the LORD here whom we may consult?" |
| 7 O rei de Israel disse a Josafat: Aqui há um homem, por meio do qual podemos consultar a vontade do Senhor; todavia eu aborreço-o, porque nunca me profetiza coisa boa, mas sempre o mal: é Miqueias, filho de Jemla. Josafat disse-lhe: Ó rei, não fales assim. | 7 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still another through whom we may consult the LORD, but I hate him, for he prophesies not good but always evil about me. That is Micaiah, son of Imlah." Jeshoshaphat said, "Let not your Majesty speak of evil against you." |

| 10 Então Sedecias, filho de Canaana, fez para si uns chifres de ferro, e disse: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Com estes sacudirás tu a Síria, até a destruíres. | 10 Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, made iron horns for himself and said: "The LORD says, 'With these you shall gore Aram until you have destroyed them.'" |
| 11 Todos os profetas profetizavam do mesmo modo, dizendo: Marcha para Ramot de Galaad, que serás bem sucedido, pois o Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei. | 11 The other prophets prophesied in the same vein, saying: "Go up to Ramoth-gilead. You shall succeed; the LORD will deliver it over to the king." |
| 12 O mensageiro, que tinha ido chamar Miqueias, disse-lhe: Sabe que todos os profetas profetizam, a uma voz, ao rei, bom sucesso; peço-te, pois, que as tuas palavras não discordem das deles e que profetizes um sucesso favorável. | 12 The messenger who had gone to call Micaiah said to him: "Look now, the prophets unanimously predict good for the king. Let your word, like each of theirs, predict good." |
| 13 Miqueias respondeu-lhe: Viva o Senhor! Eu não direi senão o que me disser o meu Deus. | 13 "As the LORD lives," Micaiah answered, "I will say what my God tells me." |
| 14 Quando chegou à presença do rei, o rei disse-lhe: Miqueias, devemos ir contra Ramot de Galaad, para combater, ou deixar-nos estar quietos? Ele respondeu-lhe: Ide, porque tudo vos correrá bem: os inimigos serão entregues nas vossas mãos, | 14 When he came to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to fight against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Go up," he answered, "and succeed; they will be delivered into your power." |
| 15 O rei disse: Eu te conjuro uma e outra vez que me não digas senão o que é verdade em nome do Senhor. | 15 But the king said to him, "How many times must I adjure you to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?" |
| 16 Então Miqueias disse: Eu vi Israel disperso pelos montes, como ovelhas sem pastor. O Senhor disse: Estas gentes não têm chefes; cada um volte em paz para sua casa. | 16 Then Micaiah answered: "I see all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD saying, 'These have no master!' Let each of them go back home in peace.'" |
| 17 O rei de Israel disse para Josafat: Não te disse eu que este homem nunca me profetiza coisa alguma de bem, mas sempre o que é mau? | 17 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he prophesies no good about me, but only evil?" |
| 18 Miqueias prosseguiu: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor: Eu vi o Senhor sentado no seu trono e todo o exército do céu que o circundava à direita e à esquerda. | 18 But Micaiah continued: "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD seated on his throne, with the whole host of heaven standing by to his right and to his left. |
| 19 E o Senhor disse: Quem enganará Acab, rei de Israel, para que ele marche e pereça em Ramot de Galaad? Respondendo um dum modo, e outro doutro, | 19 The LORD asked, 'Who will deceive Ahab, king of Israel, so that he will go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this, another that, |
| 20 aproximou-se um espírito maligno, apresentou-se diante do Senhor e disse: Eu o enganarei. O Senhor disse-lhe: Como o enganarás tu? | 20 until a spirit came forward and presented himself to the LORD, saying, 'I will deceive him.' The LORD asked, 'How?' |
| 21 Ele respondeu: Irei e serei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas. Disse o Senhor: Tu o enganarás e prevalecerás; vai e faze-o assim (eu to permito). | 21 He answered, 'I will go forth and become a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.' The LORD agreed: 'You shall succeed in deceiving him. Go forth and do this.' |
| 22 Repara, pois, que o Senhor pôs (ou permitiu) um espírito de mentira, na boca de todos os teus profetas, e o Senhor pronunciou contra ti desgraças. | 22 So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these your prophets, but the LORD himself has decreed evil against you." |
| 23 Então Sedecias, filho de Canaana, avançando, deu uma bofetada em Miqueias e disse: Por que caminho passou de mim o espírito do Senhor, para te falar a ti? | 23 Thereupon Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, came up and slapped Micaiah on the cheek, saying, "Which way did the spirit of the LORD go when he left me to speak to you?" |
| 24 Miqueias respondeu: Tu mesmo o verás naquele dia em que fores fugindo de aposento em aposento para te esconderes. | 24 "You shall find out," Micaiah replied, "on that day when you enter an innermost chamber to hide." |
| 25 O rei de Israel ordenou, então: Pegai em Miqueias e levai-o a Amon, governador da cidade, e a Joás, filho de Amelec. | 25 The king of Israel then said: "Seize Micaiah and take him back to Amon, prefect of the city, and to Joash the king's son, |
| 26 Direis: Isto manda o rei: Metei este homem no cárcere e dai-lhe pão de aflição e água de angústia, até que eu volte em paz. | 26 and say, 'This is the king's order: Put this man in prison and feed him scanty rations of bread and water until I return in safety!'" |
| 27 Miqueias respondeu: Se tu voltares em paz, não falou o Senhor pela minha boca. E acrescentou: Ouvi isto, povos todos. | 27 But Micaiah said, "If ever you return in safety, the LORD has not spoken through me." And he said, "Hear, O peoples, all of you!" |
| 28 O rei de Israel, pois, e Josafat, rei de Judá, marcharam contra Ramot de Galaad. | 28 The king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead |
| 29 O rei de Israel disse para Josafat: Eu m darei de trajo, e assim irei combater, mas tu vem com as tuas vestes. O rei de Israel, mudado o trajo, foi para o combate. | 29 and the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will go into battle disguised, but you put on your own clothes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and they entered the fray. |
| 30 Ora o rei da Síria tinha dado aos comandantes da sua cavalaria a ordem seguinte: Não pelejeis contra pequeno nem contra grande, mas sòmente contra o rei de Israel. | 30 Meanwhile, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the order, "Fight with no one, small or great, except the king of Israel." |
| 31 Por isso, quando os comandantes da cavalaria viram Josafat, disseram: Este é o rei de Israel. E cercaram-no, carregando sobre ele; porém ele soltou o seu grito (de guerra) e o Senhor o socorreu, desviando os sírios da sua pessoa. | 31 When the commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they exclaimed, "That must be the king of Israel!" and shifted to fight him. But Jehoshaphat cried out and the LORD helped him; God induced them to leave him. |
| 32 Então, tendo visto os capitães da cavalaria que este não era o rei de Israel, deixaram-no. | 32 The chariot commanders became aware that he was not the king of Israel and gave up their pursuit of him. |
| 33 Entretanto aconteceu que um homem do povo atirou à toa uma flecha, e feriu com ela o rei de Israel por entre as junturas da armadura, pelo que ele disse ao seu cocheiro: Volta de rédea e tira-me do combate, porque estou ferido. | 33 Someone, however, drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his breastplate. He ordered his charioteer, "Rein about and take me out of the ranks, for I am disabled." |
| 34 Tornou-se tão violenta a batalha naquele dia que o rei de Israel ficou de pé no seu coche, até à tarde, em frente dos Sírios. Morreu ao pôr do sol. | 34 The battle grew fierce during the day, and the king of Israel braced himself up on his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. He died as the sun was setting. |
