VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et vidi in dextera sedentis supra thronum, librum scriptum intus et foris, signatum sigillis septem.1 I saw that in the right hand of the One sitting on the throne there was a scrol that was written on backand front and was sealed with seven seals.
Et vidi angelum fortem, prædicantem voce magna : Quis est dignus aperire librum, et solvere signacula ejus ?2 Then I saw a powerful angel who cal ed with a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to open the scroll and breakits seals?'
Et nemo poterat neque in cælo, neque in terra, neque subtus terram aperire librum, neque respicere illum.3 But there was no one, in heaven or on the earth or under the earth, who was able to open the scrol andread it.
Et ego flebam multum, quoniam nemo dignus inventus est aperire librum, nec videre eum.4 I wept bitterly because nobody could be found to open the scrol and read it,
Et unus de senioribus dixit mihi : Ne fleveris : ecce vicit leo de tribu Juda, radix David, aperire librum, et solvere septem signacula ejus.5 but one of the elders said to me, 'Do not weep. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, and so he wil open the scroll and its seven seals.'
Et vidi : et ecce in medio throni et quatuor animalium, et in medio seniorum, Agnum stantem tamquam occisum, habentem cornua septem, et oculos septem : qui sunt septem spiritus Dei, missi in omnem terram.6 Then I saw, in the middle of the throne with its four living creatures and the circle of the elders, a Lambstanding that seemed to have been sacrificed; it had seven horns, and it had seven eyes, which are the sevenSpirits that God has sent out over the whole world.
Et venit : et accepit de dextera sedentis in throno librum.7 The Lamb came forward to take the scrol from the right hand of the One sitting on the throne,
Et cum aperuisset librum, quatuor animalia, et viginti quatuor seniores ceciderunt coram Agno, habentes singuli citharas, et phialas aureas plenas odoramentorum, quæ sunt orationes sanctorum :8 and when he took it, the four living creatures prostrated themselves before him and with them thetwenty-four elders; each one of them was holding a harp and had a golden bowl full of incense which are theprayers of the saints.
et cantabant canticum novum, dicentes : Dignus es, Domine, accipere librum, et aperire signacula ejus : quoniam occisus es, et redemisti nos Deo in sanguine tuo ex omni tribu, et lingua, et populo, et natione :9 They sang a new hymn: You are worthy to take the scrol and to break its seals, because you weresacrificed, and with your blood you bought people for God of every race, language, people and nation
et fecisti nos Deo nostro regnum, et sacerdotes : et regnabimus super terram.10 and made them a line of kings and priests for God, to rule the world.
Et vidi, et audivi vocem angelorum multorum in circuitu throni, et animalium, et seniorum : et erat numerus eorum millia millium,11 In my vision, I heard the sound of an immense number of angels gathered round the throne and theliving creatures and the elders; there were ten thousand times ten thousand of them and thousands uponthousands,
dicentium voce magna : Dignus est Agnus, qui occisus est, accipere virtutem, et divinitatem, et sapientiam, et fortitudinem, et honorem, et gloriam, et benedictionem.12 loudly chanting: Worthy is the Lamb that was sacrificed to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory and blessing.
Et omnem creaturam, quæ in cælo est, et super terram, et sub terra, et quæ sunt in mari, et quæ in eo : omnes audivi dicentes : Sedenti in throno, et Agno, benedictio et honor, et gloria, et potestas in sæcula sæculorum.13 Then I heard al the living things in creation -- everything that lives in heaven, and on earth, and underthe earth, and in the sea, crying: To the One seated on the throne and to the Lamb, be al praise, honour, gloryand power, for ever and ever.
Et quatuor animalia dicebant : Amen. Et viginti quatuor seniores ceciderunt in facies suas : et adoraverunt viventem in sæcula sæculorum.14 And the four living creatures said, 'Amen'; and the elders prostrated themselves to worship.
