Amos 1

1 Verba Amos, qui fuit in pastoribus de Thecue, quæ vidit super Israël in diebus Oziæ, regis Juda, et in diebus Jeroboam, filii Joas, regis Israël, ante duos annos terræmotus.
1 Words of Amos one of the shepherds of Tekoa. The visions he had about Israel, in the time of Uzziahking of Judah and Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
2 Et dixit : Dominus de Sion rugiet,
et de Jerusalem dabit vocem suam ;
et luxerunt speciosa pastorum,
et exsiccatus est vertex Carmeli.
2 He said: Yahweh roars from Zion, and makes himself heard from Jerusalem; the shepherds' pasturesmourn, and the crown of Carmel dries up.
3 Hæc dicit Dominus :
Super tribus sceleribus Damasci,
et super quatuor non convertam eum,
eo quod trituraverint in plaustris ferreis Galaad.
3 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Damascus, I have made my decree and wilnot relent: because they have threshed Gilead with iron threshing-sledges,
4 Et mittam ignem in domum Azaël,
et devorabit domos Benadad.
4 I shal send fire down on the House of Hazael to devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad;
5 Et conteram vectem Damasci :
et disperdam habitatorem de campo idoli,
et tenentem sceptrum de domo voluptatis :
et transferetur populus Syriæ Cyrenen,
dicit Dominus.
5 I shal break the gate-bar of Damascus, I shal destroy the inhabitant of Bikath-Aven, the holder of thesceptre in Beth-Eden, and the people of Aram wil be deported to Kir, Yahweh says.
6 Hæc dicit Dominus :
Super tribus sceleribus Gazæ,
et super quatuor non convertam eum,
eo quod transtulerint captivitatem perfectam,
ut concluderent eam in Idumæa.
6 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Gaza, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have deported entire nations as slaves to Edom,
7 Et mittam ignem in murum Gazæ,
et devorabit ædes ejus.
7 I shal send fire down on the walls of Gaza to devour its palaces;
8 Et disperdam habitatorem de Azoto,
et tenentem sceptrum de Ascalone :
et convertam manum meam super Accaron,
et peribunt reliqui Philisthinorum,
dicit Dominus Deus.
8 I shal destroy the inhabitant of Ashdod, the holder of the sceptre in Ashkelon; I shal turn my handagainst Ekron and the remnant of the Philistines wil perish, says the Lord Yahweh.
9 Hæc dicit Dominus :
Super tribus sceleribus Tyri,
et super quatuor non convertam eum,
eo quod concluserint captivitatem perfectam in Idumæa,
et non sint recordati fœderis fratrum.
9 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Tyre, I have made my decree and will notrelent: because they have handed hosts of captives over to Edom, heedless of a covenant of brotherhood,
10 Et mittam ignem in murum Tyri,
et devorabit ædes ejus.
10 I shall send fire down on the wal s of Tyre to devour its palaces.
11 Hæc dicit Dominus :
Super tribus sceleribus Edom,
et super quatuor non convertam eum,
eo quod persecutus sit in gladio fratrem suum,
et violaverit misericordiam ejus,
et tenuerit ultra furorem suum,
et indignationem suam servaverit usque in finem.
11 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Edom, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because he has pursued his brother with the sword, because he has stifled any sense of pity, andperpetual y nursed his anger and constantly cherished his rage,
12 Mittam ignem in Theman,
et devorabit ædes Bosræ.
12 I shall send fire down on Teman to devour the palaces of Bozrah.
13 Hæc dicit Dominus :
Super tribus sceleribus filiorum Ammon,
et super quatuor non convertam eum,
eo quod dissecuerit prægnantes Galaad
ad dilatandum terminum suum.
13 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of the Ammonites, I have made my decreeand will not relent: because they have disembowelled the pregnant women of Gilead in order to extend their ownfrontiers,
14 Et succendam ignem in muro Rabba,
et devorabit ædes ejus in ululatu in die belli,
et in turbine in die commotionis.
14 I shall light a fire against the walls of Rabbah to devour its palaces amid war cries on the day of battle,in a whirlwind on the day of storm,
15 Et ibit Melchom in captivitatem,
ipse et principes ejus simul,
dicit Dominus.		15 and their king shal go into captivity, he and his chief men with him, says Yahweh.
