VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Congregavit autem rursum David omnes electos ex Israël, triginta millia.	1 David again mustered al the picked troops of Israel, thirty thousand men.
2 Surrexitque David, et abiit, et universus populus qui erat cum eo de viris Juda, ut adducerent arcam Dei, super quam invocatum est nomen Domini exercituum, sedentis in cherubim super eam.	2 Setting off with the whole force then with him, David went to Baalah of Judah, from there to bring up theark of God, who bears the title 'Yahweh Sabaoth, enthroned on the winged creatures'.
3 Et imposuerunt arcam Dei super plaustrum novum : tuleruntque eam de domo Abinadab, qui erat in Gabaa : Oza autem et Ahio, filii Abinadab, minabant plaustrum novum.	3 They transported the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of Abinadab's house which is on thehil . Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the cart,
4 Cumque tulissent eam de domo Abinadab, qui erat in Gabaa, custodiens arcam Dei Ahio præcedebat arcam.	4 Uzzah walked alongside the ark of God and Ahio went in front.
5 David autem et omnis Israël ludebant coram Domino in omnibus lignis fabrefactis, et citharis et lyris et tympanis et sistris et cymbalis.	5 David and the whole House of Israel danced before Yahweh with al their might, singing to theaccompaniment of harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.
6 Postquam autem venerunt ad aream Nachon, extendit Oza manum ad arcam Dei, et tenuit eam : quoniam calcitrabant boves, et declinaverunt eam.	6 When they came to Nacon's threshing-floor, Uzzah reached his hand out to the ark of God andsteadied it, as the oxen were making it tilt.
7 Iratusque est indignatione Dominus contra Ozam, et percussit eum super temeritate : qui mortuus est ibi juxta arcam Dei.	7 This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and for this crime God struck him down on the spot, andthere he died beside the ark of God.
8 Contristatus est autem David, eo quod percussisset Dominus Ozam, et vocatum est nomen loci illius : Percussio Ozæ, usque in diem hanc.	8 David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the name Perez-Uzzah, which it still has today.
9 Et extimuit David Dominum in die illa, dicens : Quomodo ingredietur ad me arca Domini ?	9 That day David felt afraid of Yahweh. 'How can the ark of Yahweh come to be with me?' he said.
10 Et noluit divertere ad se arcam Domini in civitatem David : sed divertit eam in domum Obededom Gethæi.	10 So David decided not to take the ark of Yahweh with him into the city of David but diverted it to thehouse of Obed-Edom of Gath.
11 Et habitavit arca Domini in domo Obededom Gethæi tribus mensibus : et benedixit Dominus Obededom, et omnem domum ejus.	11 The ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath for three months, and Yahwehblessed Obed-Edom and his whole family.
12 Nuntiatumque est regi David quod benedixisset Dominus Obededom, et omnia ejus, propter arcam Dei. Abiit ergo David, et adduxit arcam Dei de domo Obededom in civitatem David cum gaudio : et erant cum David septem chori, et victima vituli.	12 King David was informed that Yahweh had blessed Obed-Edom's family and everything belonging tohim on account of the ark of God. David accordingly went and, amid great rejoicing, brought the ark of God upfrom Obed-Edom's house to the City of David.
13 Cumque transcendissent qui portabant arcam Domini sex passus, immolabat bovem et arietem,	13 When the bearers of the ark of Yahweh had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fat sheep.
14 et David saltabat totis viribus ante Dominum : porro David erat accinctus ephod lineo.	14 And David danced whirling round before Yahweh with al his might, wearing a linen loincloth.
15 Et David et omnis domus Israël ducebant arcam testamenti Domini in jubilo, et in clangore buccinæ.	15 Thus with war cries and blasts on the horn, David and the entire House of Israel brought up the ark ofYahweh.
16 Cumque intrasset arca Domini in civitatem David, Michol filia Saul, prospiciens per fenestram, vidit regem David subsilientem atque saltantem coram Domino : et despexit eum in corde suo.	16 Now as the ark of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul was watching from thewindow and when she saw King David leaping and whirling round before Yahweh, the sight of him fil ed her withcontempt.
17 Et introduxerunt arcam Domini, et imposuerunt eam in loco suo in medio tabernaculi, quod tetenderat ei David : et obtulit David holocausta et pacifica coram Domino.	17 They brought the ark of Yahweh in and put it in position, inside the tent which David had erected for it;and David presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices in Yahweh's presence.
18 Cumque complesset offerens holocausta et pacifica, benedixit populo in nomine Domini exercituum.	18 And when David had finished presenting burnt offerings, he blessed the people in the name ofYahweh Sabaoth.
19 Et partitus est universæ multitudini Israël tam viro quam mulieri singulis collyridam panis unam, et assaturam bubulæ carnis unam, et similam frixam oleo : et abiit omnis populus, unusquisque in domum suam.	19 To al the people, to the whole multitude of Israelites, men and women, he then distributed to each aloaf of bread, a portion of dates and a raisin cake. Then the people al went back to their homes.
20 Reversusque est David ut benediceret domui suæ : et egressa Michol filia Saul in occursum David, ait : Quam gloriosus fuit hodie rex Israël discooperiens se ante ancillas servorum suorum, et nudatus est, quasi si nudetur unus de scurris.	20 As David was coming back to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him.'Much honour the king of Israel has won today,' she said, 'making an exhibition of himself under the eyes of hisservant-maids, making an exhibition of himself like a buffoon!'
21 Dixitque David ad Michol : Ante Dominum, qui elegit me potius quam patrem tuum et quam omnem domum ejus, et præcepit mihi ut essem dux super populum Domini in Israël,	21 David replied to Michal, 'I was dancing for Yahweh, not for them. As Yahweh lives, who chose me inpreference to your father and his whole family to make me leader of Israel, Yahweh's people, I shal dancebefore Yahweh and
22 et ludam, et vilior fiam plus quam factus sum : et ero humilis in oculis meis, et cum ancillis de quibus locuta es, gloriosior apparebo.	22 lower myself even further than that. In your eyes I may be base, but by the maids you speak of, bythem, I shal be held in honour!'
23 Igitur Michol filiæ Saul non est natus filius usque in diem mortis suæ.	23 And to the day of her death, Michal, daughter of Saul, had no children.
