Prima lettera di Giovanni 5

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Chi crede che Gesù è il Cristo è nato da Dio; e chi ama colui che ha generato ama anche chi è stato generato da lui.	1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and whoever loves the father loves the son.
2 Da questo noi conosciamo che amiamo i figli di Dio: se amiamo Dio e compiamo i suoi comandamenti.	2 In this way we know that we love God's children, when we love God and keep his commandments.
3 Questo è l'amore di Dio: osservare i suoi comandamenti; i suoi comandamenti non sono pesanti,	3 This is what the love of God is: keeping his commandments. Nor are his commandments burdensome,
4 poiché chi è nato da Dio vince il mondo e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo: la nostra fede.	4 because every child of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world --our faith.
5 Ma chi è colui che vince il mondo se non chi crede che Gesù è il Figlio di Dio?	5 Who can overcome the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 Questi è colui che è venuto con acqua e con sangue: Gesù Cristo; non soltanto con l'acqua, ma con l'acqua e con il sangue. Ed è lo Spirito che ne dà testimonianza, poiché lo Spirito è la verità.	6 He it is who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with water alone but with water and blood, andit is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is Truth.
7 Poiché sono tre quelli che danno testimonianza:	7 So there are three witnesses,
8 lo Spirito, l'acqua e il sangue, e questi tre sono concordi.	8 the Spirit, water and blood; and the three of them coincide.
9 Se noi riceviamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è più grande. Questa infatti è la testimonianza di Dio: egli ha reso testimonianza a suo Figlio.	9 If we accept the testimony of human witnesses, God's testimony is greater, for this is God's testimonywhich he gave about his Son.
10 Chi crede nel Figlio di Dio, ha questa testimonianza in sé. Chi non crede in Dio, fa di lui un mentitore, perché non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha dato al Figlio suo.	10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him, and whoever does not believe ismaking God a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.
11 E questa è la testimonianza: Dio ci ha dato la vita eterna e questa vita è nel Figlio suo.	11 This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Chi ha il Figlio, ha la vita; chi non ha il Figlio di Dio, non ha la vita.	12 Whoever has the Son has life, and whoever has not the Son of God has not life.
13 Io vi ho scritto queste cose affinché sappiate che voi avete la vita eterna, voi che credete nel nome del Figlio di Dio.	13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that youhave eternal life.
14 Questa è la sicurezza che noi abbiamo in lui: se noi chiediamo qualcosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci ascolta.	14 Our fearlessness towards him consists in this, that if we ask anything in accordance with his wil hehears us.
15 E se noi sappiamo che egli ci ascolta qualora gli chiediamo qualcosa, sappiamo già di avere da lui tutto ciò che gli abbiamo chiesto.	15 And if we know that he listens to whatever we ask him, we know that we already possess whatever wehave asked of him.
16 Se uno vede il suo fratello commettere un peccato che non conduce alla morte, preghi e Dio gli darà la vita (come) a coloro che commettono un peccato che non conduce alla morte. Ma vi sono peccati che conducono alla morte; per questi dico di non pregare.	16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that is not a deadly sin, he has only to pray, and God wil givelife to this brother -- provided that it is not a deadly sin. There is sin that leads to death and I am not saying youmust pray about that.
17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma vi è peccato che non conduce alla morte.	17 Every kind of wickedness is sin, but not al sin leads to death.
18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è generato da Dio non pecca; ma il generato da Dio lo custodisce, così che il maligno non lo tocca.	18 We are wel aware that no one who is a child of God sins, because he who was born from Godprotects him, and the Evil One has no hold over him.
19 Sappiamo che noi siamo da Dio mentre il mondo giace tutto in potere del maligno.	19 We are wel aware that we are from God, and the whole world is in the power of the Evil One.
20 Sappiamo anche che il Figlio di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato l'intelligenza per conoscere Colui che è il Vero. E noi siamo in Colui che è il Vero, nel Figlio suo Gesù Cristo. Questi è il vero Dio e la vita eterna.	20 We are wel aware also that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that wemay know the One who is true. We are in the One who is true as we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the trueGod and this is eternal life. Children, be on your guard against false gods.
21 Figli, guardatevi dagli idoli.
