Prima lettera di Pietro 2

1 Deponendo dunque ogni cattiveria, ogni inganno, le ipocrisie, le invidie e ogni forma di maldicenza,	1 Therefore, set aside all malice and all deceitfulness, as well as falseness and envy and every detraction.
2 come bambini neonati anelate al latte spirituale e genuino, affinché per mezzo di esso cresciate in vista della salvezza:	2 Like newborn infants, desire the milk of reasonableness without guile, so that by this you may increase unto salvation,
3 dato che avete gustato quanto è amabile il Signore.	3 if it is true that you have tasted that the Lord is sweet.
4 Avvicinandovi a lui, la pietra vivente scartata dagli uomini ma scelta da Dio e di valore,	4 And approaching him as if he were a living stone, rejected by men, certainly, but elect and honored by God,
5 siete costruiti anche voi come pietre viventi in edificio spirituale per formare un organismo sacerdotale santo, che offra sacrifici spirituali bene accetti a Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.	5 be also yourselves like living stones, built upon him, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, so as to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Per questo si trova nella Scrittura: Ecco, pongo in Sion una pietra scelta, angolare, di valore, e chi crede in essa non rimarrà confuso.	6 Because of this, Scripture asserts: “Behold, I am setting in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious. And whoever will have believed in him will not be confounded.”
7 Il valore quindi è per voi che credete; per coloro che non credono, la pietra scartata dai costruttori è diventata la pietra angolare,	7 Therefore, to you who believe, he is honor. But to those who do not believe, the stone which the builders have rejected, the same has been made into the head of the corner,
8 sasso d'inciampo e pietra di scandalo. Essi inciampano disobbedendo alla parola e a questo inciampo sono destinati.	8 and a stone of offense, and a rock of scandal, to those who are offended by the Word; neither do they believe, though they also have been built upon him.
9 Ma voi siete una stirpe scelta, un sacerdozio regale, un popolo santo, un popolo destinato a essere posseduto da Dio, così da annunziare pubblicamente le opere degne di colui che dalle tenebre vi chiamò alla sua luce meravigliosa,	9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, so that you may announce the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10 voi che un tempo eravate non-popolo, ora invece siete popolo di Dio, eravate non beneficati dalla bontà divina, ora invece siete beneficati.	10 Though in past times you were not a people, yet now you are the people of God. Though you had not obtained mercy, yet now you have obtained mercy.
11 Carissimi, vi esorto affinché, in qualità di pellegrini e ospiti sulla terra, vi asteniate dagli impulsi passionali della carne, che combattono contro l'anima.	11 Most beloved, I beg you, as new arrivals and sojourners, to abstain from carnal desires, which battle against the soul.
12 La vostra condotta in mezzo ai pagani sia buona, in modo che, mentre essi sparlano di voi come malfattori, osservando attentamente glorifichino Dio in forza delle vostre opere buone, nel giorno della sua visita.	12 Keep your behavior among the Gentiles to what is good, so that, when they slander you as if you were evildoers, they may, by the good works that are seen in you, glorify God on the day of visitation.
13 Sottomettetevi a ogni istituzione umana in grazia del Signore, sia all'imperatore, per la sua autorità suprema,	13 Therefore, be subject to every human creature because of God, whether it is to the king as preeminent,
14 sia ai governatori, perché sono inviati da lui per punire i malfattori e a lode di chi opera il bene.	14 or to leaders as having been sent from him for vindication over evildoers, it is truly for the praise of what is good.
15 Poiché questo è ciò che Dio vuole: compiendo il bene, voi dovete chiudere la bocca all'ignoranza degli uomini stolti.	15 For such is the will of God, that by doing good you may bring about the silence of imprudent and ignorant men,
16 Perché, sì, siete liberi, ma non servitevi della vostra libertà come di un paravento per il male; al contrario, agite come schiavi di Dio.	16 in an open manner, and not as if cloaking malice with liberty, but like servants of God.
17 Rispettate tutti, amate i fratelli, abbiate il senso di Dio, rispettate l'imperatore.	17 Honor everyone. Love brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
18 Voi, schiavi domestici, siate sottomessi, con tutto il senso di Dio, ai padroni, non solo a quelli onesti e comprensivi, ma anche a quelli che sono perversi.	18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and meek, but also to the unruly.
19 Questo infatti è un titolo di benevolenza divina: sopportare dolori in base alla consapevolezza che uno ha di Dio, soffrendo ingiustamente.	19 For this is grace: when, because of God, a man willingly endures sorrows, suffering injustice.
20 Che gloria infatti, se voi, comportandovi male e maltrattati per questo, resistete con costanza? Ma se, facendo il bene e soffrendo per questo, resistete con costanza, questo è un titolo di benemerenza presso Dio.	20 For what glory is there, if you sin and then suffer a beating? But if you do well and suffer patiently, this is grace with God.
21 A questo infatti siete stati chiamati, poiché Cristo soffrì per voi, lasciando a voi un modello, così che voi seguiate le sue orme:	21 For you have been called to this because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in his footsteps.
22 egli non commise peccato né fu trovato inganno sulla sua bocca;	22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
23 insultato, non restituiva l'insulto; soffrendo, non minacciava, ma si affidava a Colui che giudica rettamente.	23 And when evil was spoken against him, he did not speak evil. When he suffered, he did not threaten. Then he handed himself over to him who judged him unjustly.
24 Egli prese su di sé i nostri peccati e li portò nel suo corpo sulla croce, affinché, venendo meno ai peccati, viviamo per la rettitudine morale; per le percosse da lui ricevute foste guariti.	24 He himself bore our sins in his body upon the tree, so that we, having died to sin, would live for justice. By his wounds, you have been healed.
25 Eravate infatti sbandati come pecore, ma ora siete ritornati al pastore che vigila sulle anime vostre.	25 For you were like wandering sheep. But now you have been turned back toward the Pastor and the Bishop of your souls.
