Seconda lettera a Timoteo 1

1 Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesù per volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa di vita che è in Cristo Gesù,	1 From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through the wil of God in accordance with his promise of life in ChristJesus,
2 a Timoteo, figlio carissimo: grazia, misericordia e pace da parte di Dio Padre e di Cristo Gesù, Signore nostro.	2 to Timothy, dear son of mine. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus ourLord.
3 Ringrazio Dio, a cui servo con pura coscienza fin dal tempo dei miei antenati, tutte le volte che faccio memoria di te nelle mie preghiere, senza interruzione né di notte né di giorno.	3 Night and day I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my ancestors did. I remember you inmy prayers constantly night and day;
4 Ricordandomi delle tue lacrime, desidero anche di rivederti, per essere riempito di gioia,	4 I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my joy.
5 memore di quella fede senza ipocrisia che è in te e che, prima ancora, albergò nel cuore della tua nonna Loide e di tua madre Eunice e, ne sono sicuro, alberga anche in te.	5 I also remember your sincere faith, a faith which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your motherEunice, and I am sure dwel s also in you.
6 Per questo motivo, ti esorto a ravvivare il carisma di Dio, che è in te per l'imposizione delle mie mani.	6 That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through thelaying on of my hands.
7 Dio, infatti, non ci ha dato uno spirito di timidezza, ma di forza, di amore e di saggezza.	7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control.
8 Non arrossire dunque della testimonianza del Signore nostro, né di me suo prigioniero, ma soffri piuttosto con me per il vangelo, confidando nella forza di Dio.	8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; butshare in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God
9 E' lui, infatti, che ci ha salvati e ci ha chiamati con una vocazione santa, non in virtù delle nostre opere, ma secondo il suo disegno e la sua grazia, che ci fu data in Cristo prima dei tempi eterni,	9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for hisown purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before thebeginning of time,
10 ma che è stata manifestata ora mediante l'apparizione del Salvatore nostro Gesù Cristo, che ha distrutto la morte e ha fatto risplendere la vita e l'immortalità per mezzo del vangelo,	10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death,and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel,
11 del quale io sono stato stabilito araldo, apostolo e maestro.	11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher.
12 Anzi, è proprio per questo motivo che sopporto tali cose; ma io non ne arrossisco, perché so a chi ho creduto e sono pienamente convinto che egli ha potere di custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.	12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom Ihave put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted tohim.
13 Prendi per modello le sane parole che hai da me udito, nella fede e nell'amore che è in Cristo Gesù.	13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are inChrist Jesus.
14 Custodisci il buon deposito per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che abita in noi.	14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwel s in us, look after that precious thing given in trust.
15 Tu lo sai che tutti quelli dell'Asia, fra i quali Figelo ed Ermogene, mi hanno abbandonato.	15 As you know, Phygelus and Hermogenes and al the others in Asia have deserted me.
16 Il Signore usi misericordia alla casa di Onesiforo, perché spesso egli mi ha rianimato e non ha arrossito delle mie catene:	16 I hope the Lord wil be kind to al the family of Onesiphorus, because he has often been a comfort tome and has never been ashamed of my chains.
17 anzi, essendo venuto a Roma, mi cercò premurosamente finché non mi ebbe trovato.	17 On the contrary, as soon as he reached Rome, he searched hard for me and found me.
18 Il Signore conceda anche a lui di trovare misericordia presso di lui in quel giorno: tutti i servizi che ha reso in Efeso, li conosci meglio di qualsiasi altro.	18 May the Lord grant him to find the Lord's mercy on that Day. You know better than anyone else howmuch he helped me at Ephesus.
