LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo di ciò Paolo partì da Atene e venne a Corinto,	1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,
2 dove trovò un giudeo di nome Aquila, nativo del Ponto, appena giunto dall'Italia con sua moglie Priscilla, perché Claudio aveva ordinato che tutti i Giudei se ne andassero da Roma. Paolo si recò da essi	2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,
3 e, poiché era dello stesso mestiere, rimase ad alloggiare presso di loro e lavorava: infatti erano fabbricanti di tende.	3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.
4 Ogni sabato poi parlava nella sinagoga e cercava di persuadere i Giudei e i Greci.	4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.
5 Quando poi Sila e Timoteo giunsero dalla Macedonia, Paolo si diede tutto alla predicazione, attestando ai Giudei che Gesù era il Cristo.	5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
6 Ma resistendo essi e lanciando bestemmie, egli scosse la polvere dalle vesti dicendo loro: "Il vostro sangue cadrà sul vostro capo: io non ne ho colpa. Da questo momento andrò dai pagani".	6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'
7 E di là si trasferì presso un certo Tizio Giusto, che onorava Dio, la cui casa era contigua alla sinagoga.	7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.
8 Crispo, capo della sinagoga, credette al Signore con tutta la sua casa, e molti dei Corinzi che avevano ascoltato Paolo credevano e si facevano battezzare.	8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.
9 Il Signore una notte disse in visione a Paolo: "Non temere, ma continua a parlare e non tacere,	9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:
10 perché io sono con te e nessuno metterà le mani su di te per farti del male; poiché c'è per me un popolo numeroso in questa città".	10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'
11 Così Paolo rimase per un anno e sei mesi insegnando in mezzo ad essi la parola di Dio.	11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.
12 Mentre Gallione era proconsole dell'Acaia, i Giudei si mossero unanimi contro Paolo e lo condussero davanti al tribunale	12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,
13 dicendo: "Costui induce la gente a onorare Dio in modo contrario alla legge".	13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'
14 Paolo stava per aprire la bocca, ma Gallione disse ai Giudei: "Se si trattasse di un delitto o di un'azione malvagia, o Giudei, vi ascolterei pazientemente, come è giusto.	14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;
15 Ma se si tratta di questioni di dottrina e di nomi e della vostra legge, vedetevela voi: io non voglio essere giudice di queste cose".	15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'

18 Paolo, dopo essersi fermato ancora molti giorni, prese congedo dai fratelli e salpò per la Siria, avendo con sé Priscilla e Aquila. A Cencre si era fatto tagliare i capelli, poiché aveva fatto un voto.	18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.
19 Giunsero ad Efeso e quivi li lasciò. Paolo, entrato nella sinagoga, incominciò a discutere con i Giudei.	19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.
20 Essi gli chiesero di prolungare il suo soggiorno, ma egli non acconsentì.	20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,
21 Tuttavia prendendo congedo disse: "Ritornerò di nuovo tra voi, se Dio lo vorrà". E partì da Efeso.	21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.
22 Sbarcato a Cesarea, salì a salutare la chiesa, quindi discese ad Antiochia.	22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch

25 Egli era stato istruito nella via del Signore e, pieno di fervore, predicava e insegnava con esattezza le cose riguardanti Gesù, ma conosceva soltanto il battesimo di Giovanni.	25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.
26 Egli cominciò a predicare con franchezza nella sinagoga. Priscilla e Aquila, dopo averlo ascoltato, lo presero con loro e gli esposero con maggior esattezza la via di Dio.	26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.

When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably
