1 Partirono da Elim e tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele arrivò nel deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese da quando erano usciti dal paese d'Egitto.	1 Having set out from Elim, the whole Israelite community came into the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt.
2 Tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele mormorò contro Mosè ed Aronne nel deserto.	2 Here in the desert the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron.
3 I figli d'Israele dissero loro: "Perché non siamo morti per mano del Signore nel paese d'Egitto, quando stavamo presso la pentola di carne e mangiavamo a sazietà? Perché ci avete fatto uscire in questo deserto per far morire di fame tutta questa moltitudine?".	3 The Israelites said to them, "Would that we had died at the LORD'S hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our fleshpots and ate our fill of bread! But you had to lead us into this desert to make the whole community die of famine!"
4 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Ecco, faccio piovere su di voi dal cielo del pane: il popolo uscirà e raccoglierà ogni giorno la razione del giorno. Voglio infatti provarlo, se cammina o no nella mia legge.	4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will now rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not.
5 E il sesto giorno, quando prepareranno quello che avranno portato, ci sarà il doppio di quanto avevano raccolto giorno per giorno".	5 On the sixth day, however, when they prepare what they bring in, let it be twice as much as they gather on the other days."
6 Mosè ed Aronne dissero a tutti i figli d'Israele: "Alla sera saprete che è il Signore che vi ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto,	6 So Moses and Aaron told all the Israelites, "At evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
7 e al mattino vedrete la gloria del Signore, poiché ha sentito le vostre mormorazioni contro di lui: noi che cosa siamo perché mormoriate contro di noi?".	7 and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, as he heeds your grumbling against him. But what are we that you should grumble against us?
8 Mosè disse: "Il Signore vi darà alla sera carne da mangiare e al mattino pane a sazietà, poiché il Signore ha ascoltato le vostre mormorazioni contro di lui. Noi infatti che cosa siamo? Non contro di noi sono le vostre mormorazioni, ma contro il Signore".	8 When the LORD gives you flesh to eat in the evening," continued Moses, "and in the morning your fill of bread, as he heeds the grumbling you utter against him, what then are we? Your grumbling is not against us, but against the LORD."
9 Mosè disse ad Aronne: "Di' a tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele: "Avvicinatevi davanti al Signore, poiché ha udito le vostre mormorazioni".	9 Then Moses said to Aaron, "Tell the whole Israelite community: Present yourselves before the LORD, for he has heard your grumbling."
10 E mentre Aronne parlava a tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele, si voltarono verso il deserto, ed ecco che la gloria del Signore apparve nella nube.	10 When Aaron announced this to the whole Israelite community, they turned toward the desert, and lo, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud!
11 Il Signore disse a Mosè:	11 The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
12 "Ho udito le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele. Parla loro così: "Tra le due sere mangerete carne e al mattino vi sazierete di pane; saprete che io sono il Signore, vostro Dio".	12 "I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them: In the evening twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread, so that you may know that I, the LORD, am your God."
13 Alla sera salirono le quaglie e coprirono l'accampamento e al mattino ci fu uno strato di rugiada intorno all'accampamento.	13 In the evening quail came up and covered the camp. In the morning a dew lay all about the camp,
14 Lo strato di rugiada se ne andò, ed ecco sulla superficie del deserto qualcosa di fine, granuloso, minuto come la brina sulla terra.	14 and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground.
15 I figli d'Israele videro e si dissero l'un l'altro: "Cos'è quello?", perché non sapevano che cosa era. Mosè disse loro: "Quello è il pane che il Signore vi ha dato da mangiare.	15 On seeing it, the Israelites asked one another, "What is this?" for they did not know what it was. But Moses told them, "This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.
16 Ecco quello che il Signore vi ordina: "Raccoglietene ognuno per quanto ne mangia, un omer a testa, prendetene secondo il numero di quanti siete, ognuno nella propria tenda".	16 "Now, this is what the LORD has commanded. So gather it that everyone has enough to eat, an omer for each person, as many of you as there are, each man providing for those of his own tent."
17 I figli d'Israele fecero così, e raccolsero chi molto, chi poco.	17 The Israelites did so. Some gathered a large and some a small amount.
18 Misuravano a omer, e non ne aveva troppo chi aveva raccolto molto e non ne mancava a chi aveva raccolto poco: ognuno aveva raccolto secondo quanto mangiava.	18 But when they measured it out by the omer, he who had gathered a large amount did not have too much, and he who had gathered a small amount did not have too little. They so gathered that everyone had enough to eat.
19 Mosè disse loro: "Nessuno ne avanzi per domani".	19 Moses also told them, "Let no one keep any of it over until tomorrow morning."
20 Essi non ascoltarono Mosè e alcuni ne presero di più per l'indomani: sorsero dei vermi e si corruppe. Mosè si adirò contro di loro.	20 But they would not listen to him. When some kept a part of it over until the following morning, it became wormy and rotten. Therefore Moses was displeased with them.
21 Ne raccoglievano ogni mattina, ognuno secondo quanto ne mangiava: quando il sole scaldava, si scioglieva.	21 Morning after morning they gathered it, till each had enough to eat; but when the sun grew hot, the manna melted away.
22 Il sesto giorno raccolsero il doppio di quel pane, due omer ognuno, e tutti i capi della comunità lo dissero a Mosè.	22 On the sixth day they gathered twice as much food, two omers for each person. When all the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses,
23 Egli disse loro: "E' quello che ha detto il Signore: domani è giorno di riposo, un sabato santo per il Signore: quello che dovete cuocere, cuocetelo, e quello che dovete bollire, bollitelo, e quello che resta in più riponetelo, per conservarlo fino a domani".	23 he told them, "That is what the LORD prescribed. Tomorrow is a day of complete rest, the sabbath, sacred to the LORD. You may either bake or boil the manna, as you please; but whatever is left put away and keep for the morrow."
24 Lo riposero fino all'indomani, come aveva ordinato Mosè, e non si corruppe e non ci furono vermi.	24 When they put it away for the morrow, as Moses commanded, it did not become rotten or wormy.
25 Mosè disse: "Mangiatelo oggi, perché oggi è sabato per il Signore: oggi non ne troverete all'aperto.	25 Moses then said, "Eat it today, for today is the sabbath of the LORD. On this day you will not find any of it on the ground.
26 Per sei giorni ne raccoglierete, nel settimo giorno, sabato, non ce ne sarà".	26 On the other six days you can gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, none of it will be there."
27 Alcuni del popolo uscirono il settimo giorno per raccogliere, ma non ne trovarono.	27 Still, on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather it, although they did not find any.
28 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei precetti e le mie leggi?	28 Then the LORD said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and laws?
29 Vedete: il Signore vi ha dato il sabato, perciò vi dà al sesto giorno il pane per due giorni. Ognuno dimori a casa sua e nessuno esca dal suo luogo al settimo giorno".	29 Take note! The LORD has given you the sabbath. That is why on the sixth day he gives you food for two days. On the seventh day everyone is to stay home and no one is to go out."
30 Il popolo riposò nel settimo giorno.	30 After that the people rested on the seventh day.
31 La casa d'Israele lo chiamò manna: era come seme di coriandolo, bianco, con il gusto di focaccia di miele.	31 The Israelites called this food manna. It was like coriander seed, but white, and it tasted like wafers made with honey.
32 Mosè disse: "Ecco quello che ha ordinato il Signore: "Riempitene un omer da conservare per le vostre generazioni, perché vedano il pane che vi ho fatto mangiare nel deserto, quando vi ho fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto".	32 Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded. Keep an omerful of manna for your descendants, that they may see what food I gave you to eat in the desert when I brought you out of the land of Egypt."
33 Mosè disse ad Aronne: "Prendi un vaso, riempilo di un omer di manna e riponilo davanti al Signore, per conservarlo per le vostre generazioni".	33 Moses then told Aaron, "Take an urn and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the LORD in safekeeping for your descendants."
34 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, Aronne lo pose davanti alla "testimonianza" per la conservazione.	34 So Aaron placed it in front of the commandments for safekeeping, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
35 I figli d'Israele mangiarono la manna quarant'anni, fino a quando giunsero alla terra abitata: mangiarono la manna fino a quando giunsero al confine della terra di Canaan.	35 The Israelites ate this manna for forty years, until they came to settled land; they ate manna until they reached the borders of Canaan.
36 L'omer è un decimo dell'efa.	36 (An omer is one tenth of an ephah.)
