1 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Va' dal faraone, perché sono io che ho appesantito il suo cuore e il cuore dei suoi servi, perché io possa compiere questi miei segni in mezzo a lui,	1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have made him and his servants obdurate in order that I may perform these signs of mine among them
2 e tu possa raccontare a tuo figlio e al figlio di tuo figlio come io ho preso in giro l'Egitto, con i miei segni che ho fatto in mezzo a loro, e sappiate che io sono il Signore".	2 and that you may recount to your son and grandson how ruthlessly I dealt with the Egyptians and what signs I wrought among them, so that you may know that I am the LORD."
3 Mosè, con Aronne, andò dal faraone e gli dissero: "Così ha detto il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei: "Fino a quando ti rifiuterai di umiliarti davanti a me? Manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva.	3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, "Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go to worship me.
4 Poiché se non vuoi mandar via il mio popolo, ecco io farò venire domani delle cavallette nel tuo territorio:	4 If you refuse to let my people go, I warn you, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country.
5 copriranno la faccia della terra e non si potrà più vedere la terra; mangeranno il resto di quello che è scampato, rimasto a voi dopo la grandine, mangeranno ogni albero che cresce nella campagna;	5 They shall cover the ground, so that the ground itself will not be visible. They shall eat up the remnant you saved unhurt from the hail, as well as all the foliage that has since sprouted in your fields.
6 riempiranno le tue case, le case dei tuoi servi e le case di tutto l'Egitto: ciò che non videro i tuoi padri e i padri dei tuoi padri dal giorno in cui furono su questo suolo fino a questo giorno". Poi si voltò, e uscì dal faraone.	6 They shall fill your houses and the houses of your servants and of all the Egyptians; such a sight your fathers or grandfathers have not seen from the day they first settled on this soil up to the present day." With that he turned and left Pharaoh.
7 I servi del faraone gli dissero: "Fino a quando costui sarà per noi una trappola? Manda via questa gente: che servano il Signore, loro Dio; non sai ancora che l'Egitto è perduto?".	7 But Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long must he be a menace to us? Let the men go to worship the LORD, their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is being destroyed?"
8 Si fece venire Mosè, con Aronne, dal faraone. Disse loro: "Andate a servire il Signore, vostro Dio: ma chi sono quelli che se ne vanno?".	8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh, who said to them, "You may go and worship the LORD, your God. But how many of you will go?"
9 Mosè disse: "Andremo con i nostri giovani e i nostri anziani, andremo con i nostri figli e le nostre figlie, con il nostro gregge e il nostro armento, perché è per noi una festa del Signore".	9 "Young and old must go with us," Moses answered, "our sons and daughters as well as our flocks and herds must accompany us. That is what a feast of the LORD means to us."
10 Disse loro: "Che il Signore sia con voi, come è vero che io voglio mandar via voi e i vostri piccoli: badate, però, che voi avete in mente un progetto malvagio.	10 "The LORD help you," Pharaoh replied, "if I ever let your little ones go with you! Clearly, you have some evil in mind.
11 No: andate voi, uomini, a servire il Signore, poiché è quello che chiedete". E li cacciarono via dalla presenza del faraone.	11 No, no! Just you men can go and worship the LORD. After all, that is what you want." With that they were driven from Pharaoh's presence.
12 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Stendi la tua mano sul paese d'Egitto per le cavallette: salgano sul paese d'Egitto e mangino ogni erba della terra, tutto quello che ha lasciato la grandine".	12 The LORD then said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, that locusts may swarm over it and eat up all the vegetation and whatever the hail has left."
13 Mosè stese il suo bastone sul paese d'Egitto, e il Signore diresse un vento dell'est sul paese tutto quel giorno e tutta la notte. Venne il mattino, e il vento dell'est aveva portato le cavallette.	13 So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD sent an east wind blowing over the land all that day and all that night. At dawn the east wind brought the locusts.
14 Le cavallette salirono su tutto il paese d'Egitto e si posarono su tutto il territorio d'Egitto in gran quantità, così che prima non c'erano state tante cavallette, come dopo non ci saranno più.	14 They swarmed over the whole land of Egypt and settled down on every part of it. Never before had there been such a fierce swarm of locusts, nor will there ever be.
15 Coprirono la superficie di tutto il paese e oscurarono la terra: mangiarono tutta l'erba della terra, ogni frutto dell'albero lasciato dalla grandine; niente di verde restò sugli alberi e dell'erba del campo in tutto il paese d'Egitto.	15 They covered the surface of the whole land, till it was black with them. They ate up all the vegetation in the land and the fruit of whatever trees the hail had spared. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant throughout the land of Egypt.
16 Il faraone si affrettò a chiamare Mosè ed Aronne e disse: "Ho peccato contro il Signore, vostro Dio, e contro di voi.	16 Hastily Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "I have sinned against the LORD, your God, and against you.
17 Ma ora, ti prego, perdona il mio peccato almeno questa volta, e pregate il Signore, vostro Dio, che soltanto allontani da me questa morte".	17 But now, do forgive me my sin once more, and pray the LORD, your God, to take at least this deadly pest from me."
18 Egli uscì dal faraone e pregò il Signore.	18 When Moses left the presence of Pharaoh, he prayed to the LORD,
19 Il Signore cambiò la direzione del vento e lo fece soffiare dal mare, molto forte: esso portò via le cavallette e le trascinò verso il Mar Rosso: non restò una cavalletta in tutto il territorio d'Egitto.	19 and the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which took up the locusts and hurled them into the Red Sea. But though not a single locust remained within the confines of Egypt,
20 Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone, e non mandò via i figli d'Israele.	20 the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not let the Israelites go.
21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Stendi la tua mano verso il cielo: ci sarà il buio sul paese d'Egitto, un buio da poterlo palpare".	21 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that over the land of Egypt there may be such intense darkness that one can feel it."
22 Mosè stese la sua mano verso il cielo e ci fu buio cupo in tutto il paese d'Egitto per tre giorni.	22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was dense darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days.
23 Nessuno vide il proprio fratello e nessuno si alzò in piedi per tre giorni, ma tutti i figli d'Israele avevano luce dove risiedevano.	23 Men could not see one another, nor could they move from where they were, for three days. But all the Israelites had light where they dwelt.
24 Il faraone chiamò Mosè e disse: "Andate a servire il Signore: solo restino il vostro gregge e il vostro armento. Anche i vostri piccoli possono andare con voi".	24 Pharaoh then summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Go and worship the LORD. Your little ones, too, may go with you. But your flocks and herds must remain."
25 Mosè disse: "Anche tu ci darai in mano sacrifici e olocausti per offrirli al Signore, nostro Dio.	25 Moses replied, "You must also grant us sacrifices and holocausts to offer up to the LORD, our God.
26 Anche i nostri greggi partiranno con noi: non ne resterà un'unghia, perché da quello prenderemo le vittime per servire il Signore, nostro Dio, e noi non sappiamo con che cosa servire il Signore finché non arriveremo laggiù".	26 Hence, our livestock also must go with us. Not an animal must be left behind. Some of them we must sacrifice to the LORD, our God, but we ourselves shall not know which ones we must sacrifice to him until we arrive at the place itself."
27 Il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone e non volle mandarli via.	27 But the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not let them go.
28 Il faraone gli disse: "Va' via da me: sta' attento a non vedere più il mio volto, perché il giorno in cui vedrai il mio volto morirai".	28 "Leave my presence," Pharaoh said to him, "and see to it that you do not appear before me again! The day you appear before me you shall die!"
29 Mosè disse: "Hai detto bene: non vedrò più il tuo volto".	29 Moses replied, "Well said! I will never appear before you again."
