1 Amazia divenne re a venticinque anni e regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Ioaddan, da Gerusalemme.	1 Amasias was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem, the name of his mother was Joadan of Jerusalem.
2 Fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, ma non con cuore perfetto.	2 And he did what was good in the sight of the Lord: but yet not with a perfect heart.
3 Quando il regno fu rinsaldato nelle sue mani, egli uccise gli ufficiali che avevano assassinato il re, suo padre,	3 And when he saw himself strengthened in his kingdom, he put to death the servants that had slain the king his father.
4 ma non mise a morte i loro figli, perché sta scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè il comando del Signore: "I padri non moriranno per colpa dei figli e i figli non moriranno per colpa dei padri, ma ognuno morirà per il suo peccato".	4 But he slew not their children, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying: The fathers shall not be slain for the children, nor the children for their fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
5 Amazia riunì il popolo di Giuda e lo distribuì secondo i casati, ponendo tutto Giuda e Beniamino sotto capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia. Poi fece un censimento di quanti avevano vent'anni e più. Trovò che c'erano trecentomila uomini scelti, atti alla guerra, che maneggiavano la lancia e lo scudo.	5 Amasias therefore gathered Juda together, and appointed them by families, and captains of thousands and of hundreds in all Juda, and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upwards, and found three hundred thousand young men that could go out to battle, and could hold the spear and shield.
6 Inoltre assoldò da Israele centomila prodi guerrieri per cento talenti d'argento.	6 He hired also of Israel a hundred thousand valiant men, for a hundred talents of silver.
7 Allora gli si presentò un uomo di Dio che gli disse: "O re, l'esercito d'Israele non si unisca a te, poiché il Signore non è con Israele, con nessuno dei figli di Efraim.	7 But a man of God came to him, and said: O king, let not the army of Israel go out with thee, for the Lord is not with Israel, and all the children of Ephraim:
8 Se egli viene, non ti gioverà essere forte in battaglia! Dio ti farà stramazzare davanti al nemico, perché Dio ha il potere di aiutare e di abbattere".	8 And if thou think that battles consist in the strength of the army, God will make thee to be overcome by the enemies: for it belongeth to God both to help, and to put to flight.
9 Amazia rispose all'uomo di Dio: "Che ne sarà dei cento talenti che ho dato per l'esercito d'Israele?". L'uomo di Dio replicò: "Il Signore può darti molto di più di questo".	9 And Amasias said to the man of God: What will then become of the hundred talents which I have given to the soldiers of Israeli and the man of God answered him: The Lord is rich enough to be able to give thee much more than this.
10 Allora Amazia congedò l'esercito che si era unito a lui da Efraim perché se ne ritornasse a casa sua. Ma l'ira di costoro si accese vivamente contro Giuda e se ne ritornarono a casa propria pieni di sdegno.	10 Then Amasias separated the army, that came to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: but they being much enraged against Juda, returned to their own country.
11 Fattosi animo, Amazia si mise a capo del suo esercito conducendolo nella valle del Sale, dove sconfisse i figli di Seir in numero di diecimila.	11 And Amasias taking courage led forth his people, and went to the vale of saltpits, and slew of the children of Seir ten thousand.
12 Quelli di Giuda ne fecero prigionieri diecimila vivi e, condottili sulla cima d'una roccia, li precipitarono giù: tutti si sfracellarono.	12 And other ten thousand men the sons of Juda took, and brought to the steep of a certain rock, and cast them down headlong from the top, and they all were broken to pieces.
13 Quanto agli uomini della schiera che Amazia aveva rimandato perché non partecipassero con lui alla battaglia, essi fecero incursioni nelle città di Giuda, da Samaria fino a Bet-Oròn, uccidendovi tremila persone e facendo un ricco bottino.	13 But that army which Amasias had sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, spread themselves among the cities of Juda, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and having killed three thousand took away much spoil.
14 Dopo che Amazia ritornò dalla strage compiuta sugli Edomiti, fece portare gli dèi dei figli di Seir e se li costituì come dèi, prostrandosi davanti a loro e offrendo loro incenso.	14 But Amasias after he had slain the Edomites, set up the gods of the children of Seir, which he had brought thence, to be his gods, and adored them, and burnt incense to them.
15 Ma l'ira del Signore si accese contro Amazia e gli mandò un profeta per dirgli: "Perché ti sei rivolto agli dèi, che non sono stati capaci di liberare il loro popolo dalla tua mano?".	15 Wherefore the Lord being angry against Amasias, sent a prophet to him, to say to him: Why hast thou adored gods that have not delivered their own people out of thy hand?
16 Mentre stava ancora parlando, il re lo interruppe: "Forse ti abbiamo costituito consigliere del re? Smettila! Perché ti si dovrebbe uccidere!". Il profeta smise, ma poi disse: "So che Dio ha deciso di distruggerti, perché hai fatto questo e non hai prestato ascolto al mio consiglio".	16 And when he spoke these things, he answered him: Art thou the king's counsellor? be quiet, lest I kill thee. And the prophet departing, said: I know that God is minded to kill thee, because thou hast done this evil, and moreover hast not hearkened to my counsel.
17 Preso consiglio, Amazia, re di Giuda, mandò a dire a Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, figlio di Ieu, re d'Israele: "Orsù, affrontiamoci!".	17 Then Amasias king of Juda taking very bad counsel, sent to Joas the son of Joachaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying: Come, let us see one another.
18 Ma Ioas, re d'Israele, inviò questa risposta ad Amazia, re di Giuda: "Il cardo del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Da' la tua figlia in moglie a mio figlio. Ma una bestia selvatica del Libano, passando, calpestò il cardo.	18 But he sent back the messengers, saying: The thistle that is in Libanus, sent to the cedar in Libanus, saying: Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and behold the beasts that were in the wood of Libanus passed by, and trod down the thistle.
19 Tu ti sei detto: "Ecco, ho sconfitto Edom", e il tuo cuore ti spinge ad inorgoglirti. Ora stattene a casa tua. Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura e cadere tu e Giuda con te?".	19 Thou hast said: I have overthrown Edom, and therefore thy heart is lifted up with pride : stay at home, why dost thou provoke evil against thee, that both thou shouldst fall and Juda with thee.
20 Ma Amazia non prestò ascolto; del resto era volontà di Dio che fossero consegnati nelle mani del nemico, perché si erano rivolti agli dèi di Edom.	20 Amasias would not hearken to him, because it was the Lord's will that he should be delivered into the hands of enemies, because of the gods of Edom.
21 Ioas, re d'Israele, si mise in marcia e ambedue, lui e Amazia, re di Giuda, si scontrarono a faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes, che appartiene a Giuda.	21 So Joas king of Israel went up, and they presented themselves to be seen by one another: and Amasias king of Juda was in Bethsames of Juda:
22 Giuda fu sconfitto davanti a Israele e ognuno fuggì nella sua tenda.	22 And Juda fell before Israel and they fled to their dwellings.
23 Ioas, re d'Israele, fece prigioniero a Bet-Semes Amazia, re di Giuda, figlio di Ioas, figlio di Acazia. Condottolo a Gerusalemme, aprì una breccia nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim fino alla porta dell'Angolo, per quattrocento cubiti.	23 And Joas king of Israel took Amasias king of Juda, the son of Joas, the son Joachaz, in Bethsames, and brought him to Jerusalem: and broke down the walls thereof from the gate of Ephraim, to the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits.
24 Prese tutto l'oro, l'argento e tutti gli oggetti che si trovavano nel tempio di Dio, affidati a Obed-Edom, i tesori del palazzo reale e alcuni ostaggi; quindi ritornò in Samaria.	24 And he took all the gold, and silver, and all the vessels, that he found in the house of God, and with Obededom, and in the treasures of the king's house, moreover also the sons of the hostages, he brought back to Samaria.
25 Dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele, Amazia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni.	25 And Amasias the son of Joas king of Juda lived, after the death of Joas the son of Joachaz king of Israel, fifteen years.
26 Il resto delle imprese di Amazia, le prime come le ultime, non sono forse scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele?	26 Now the rest of the acts of Amasias, the first and last, are written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.
27 Dopo che Amazia si era allontanato dal Signore, si organizzò una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme. Egli fuggì a Lachis, ma fu inseguito a Lachis e quivi ucciso.	27 And after he revolted from the Lord, they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. And he fled into Lachis, and they sent, and killed him there.
28 Lo caricarono su cavalli e lo seppellirono con i suoi padri nella Città di Davide.	28 And they brought him back upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of David.
