1 Al termine di due anni, anche il faraone sognò di trovarsi presso il Nilo.	1 After two years, Pharaoh saw a dream. He thought himself to be standing above a river,
2 Ed ecco salire dal Nilo sette vacche, belle di aspetto e grasse di carne, e mettersi a pascolare nella macchia di papiro.	2 from which ascended seven cows, exceedingly beautiful and stout. And they pastured in marshy places.
3 Dopo quelle, ecco altre sette vacche salire dal Nilo, brutte di aspetto e magre di carne, e fermarsi accanto alle prime vacche, sulla riva del Nilo.	3 Likewise, another seven emerged from the river, filthy and thoroughly emaciated. And they pastured on the same bank of the river, in green places.
4 Ma le vacche brutte di aspetto e magre di carne divorarono le sette vacche belle di aspetto e grasse. E il faraone si svegliò.	4 And they devoured those whose appearance and condition of body was so wonderful. Pharaoh, having been awakened,
5 Poi si riaddormentò e sognò una seconda volta: ecco sette spighe venir su da un unico stelo, grosse e belle.	5 slept again, and he saw another dream. Seven ears of grain sprung up on one stalk, full and well-formed.
6 Ma ecco sette spighe, sottili ed arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo di quelle.	6 Likewise, other ears of grain, of the same number, rose up, thin and struck with blight,
7 E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe grosse e piene. Poi il faraone si svegliò: era un sogno!	7 devouring all the beauty of the first. Pharaoh, when he awakened after his rest,
8 Alla mattina il suo spirito era conturbato, perciò mandò a chiamare tutti gli indovini e tutti i sapienti dell'Egitto. Il faraone raccontò loro il suo sogno, ma non vi fu nessuno che lo interpretasse al faraone.	8 and when morning arrived, being terrified with fear, sent to all the interpreters of Egypt and to all of the wise men. And when they were summoned, he explained to them his dream; but there was no one who could interpret it.
9 Allora il capo-coppiere parlò col faraone in questi termini: "Io devo ricordare oggi le mie colpe.	9 Then at last the chief cupbearer, remembering, said, “I confess my sin.
10 Il faraone si era adirato contro i suoi ministri e mi aveva messo in residenza forzata nella casa del capo-cuoco, me e il capo-panettiere.	10 The king, being angry with his servants, ordered me and the chief miller of grain to be forced into the prison of the leader of the military.
11 Poi noi facemmo un sogno nella stessa notte, io e lui; ma sognammo ciascuno un sogno con un significato particolare.	11 There, in one night, both of us saw a dream presaging the future.
12 Ora vi era là con noi un giovane ebreo, schiavo del capo-cuoco; noi gli raccontammo i nostri sogni e lui ce li interpretò, dando a ciascuno l'interpretazione del suo sogno.	12 In that place, there was a Hebrew, a servant of the same commander of the military, to whom we explained our dreams.
13 E proprio come ci aveva interpretato, così avvenne; me il faraone ha restituito nella mia carica e lui ha impiccato".	13 Whatever we heard was proven afterwards by the event of the matter. For I was restored to my office, and he was suspended on a cross.”
14 Allora il faraone mandò a chiamare Giuseppe; fu tratto subito fuori dalla fossa ed egli si rase, si cambiò gli abiti e venne dal faraone.	14 Immediately, by the king’s authority, Joseph was led out of prison, and they shaved him. And changing his apparel, they presented him to him.
15 Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Ho fatto un sogno, e non c'è alcuno che lo interpreti; ora io ho sentito dire di te che ti basta ascoltare un sogno, per subito interpretarlo".	15 And he said to him, “I have seen dreams, and there is no one who can unfold them. I have heard that you are very wise at interpreting these.”
16 Giuseppe rispose al faraone in questi termini: "Io non c'entro: è Dio che darà la risposta per la salute del faraone!".	16 Joseph responded, “Apart from me, God will respond favorably to Pharaoh.”
17 Allora il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Nel mio sogno io stavo sulla riva del Nilo.	17 Therefore, Pharaoh explained what he had seen: “I thought myself to be standing on the bank of a river,
18 Ed ecco salire dal Nilo sette vacche, grasse di carne e belle di forma, e pascolare nella macchia di papiro.	18 and seven cows climbed up from the river, exceedingly beautiful and full of flesh. And they grazed in a pasture of a marshy greenery.
19 Ed ecco sette altre vacche salire dopo quelle, deboli, bruttissime di forma e magre di carne: non ne vidi mai di così brutte in tutta la terra d'Egitto.	19 And behold, there followed after these, another seven cows, with such deformity and emaciation as I had never seen in the land of Egypt.
20 Poi le vacche magre e brutte divorarono le prime sette vacche, quelle grasse.	20 These devoured and consumed the first,
21 Ed entrarono bensì queste nell'interno di quelle, ma non si capiva che vi fossero entrate, perché il loro aspetto era brutto come prima. E mi svegliai.	21 giving no indication of being full. But they remained in the same state of emaciation and squalor. Awakening, but being weighed down into sleep again,
22 Poi vidi nel mio sogno sette spighe venire su da un solo stelo, piene e belle.	22 I saw a dream. Seven ears of grain sprang up on one stalk, full and very beautiful.
23 Ma ecco sette spighe secche, sottili ed arse dal vento orientale, che germogliavano dopo di quelle.	23 Likewise, another seven, thin and struck with blight, rose up from the stalk.
24 E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe belle. Ora io l'ho detto agli indovini, ma non c'è nessuno che mi dia un'indicazione".	24 And they devoured the beauty of the first. I explained this dream to the interpreters, and there is no one who can unfold it.”
25 Allora Giuseppe disse al faraone: "Il sogno del faraone è uno solo: quello che Dio sta per fare, egli lo ha indicato al faraone.	25 Joseph responded: “The dream of the king is one. What God will do, he has revealed to Pharaoh.
26 Le sette vacche belle sono sette anni; e le sette spighe belle sono sette anni: è un solo sogno.	26 The seven beautiful cows, and the seven full ears of grain, are seven years of abundance. And so the force of the dreams is understood to be the same.
27 E le sette vacche magre e brutte, che salgono dopo di quelle, sono sette anni; e le sette spighe sottili, arse dal vento orientale, sono sette anni: vi saranno sette anni di carestia.	27 Likewise, the seven thin and emaciated cows, which ascended after them, and the seven thin ears of grain, which were struck with the burning wind, are seven approaching years of famine.
28 E' appunto la cosa che ho detto al faraone: quello che Dio sta per fare, l'ha fatto vedere al faraone.	28 These will be fulfilled in this order.
29 Ecco che stanno per venire sette anni, in cui vi sarà grande abbondanza in tutta la terra d'Egitto.	29 Behold, there will arrive seven years of great fertility throughout the entire land of Egypt.
30 Poi a questi succederanno sette anni di carestia, e si dimenticherà tutta quell'abbondanza nella terra d'Egitto, e la carestia consumerà il paese.	30 After this, there will follow another seven years, of such great barrenness that all the former abundance will be delivered into oblivion. For the famine will consume all the land,
31 E non si conoscerà più che vi sia stata l'abbondanza nel paese a causa della carestia venuta in seguito, perché sarà dura assai.	31 and the greatness of this destitution will cause the greatness of the abundance to be lost.
32 E quanto al fatto che il sogno del faraone si è ripetuto due volte, gli è che la cosa è decisa da Dio e che Dio si affretta ad eseguirla".	32 Now, as to what you saw the second time, it is a dream pertaining to the same thing. It is an indication of its firmness, because the word of God shall be done, and it shall be completed swiftly.
33 "Ora il faraone si provveda di un uomo intelligente e sapiente e lo stabilisca sulla terra d'Egitto.	33 Now therefore, let the king provide a wise and industrious man, and place him over the land of Egypt,
34 Il faraone inoltre costituisca funzionari sul paese per prelevare il quinto sui prodotti della terra d'Egitto, durante i sette anni di abbondanza.	34 so that he may appoint overseers throughout all the regions. And let a fifth part of the fruits, throughout the seven fertile years
35 Essi radunino tutti i viveri di queste annate buone che stanno per venire, ammassino il grano sotto l'autorità del faraone e tengano in custodia i viveri nelle città.	35 that now have already begun to occur, be gathered into storehouses. And let all the grain be stored away, under the power of Pharaoh, and let it be kept in the cities.
36 Questi viveri serviranno al paese di riserva per i sette anni di carestia che verranno nella terra d'Egitto, e così il paese non sarà distrutto dalla carestia".	36 And let it be prepared for the future famine of seven years, which will oppress Egypt, and then the land will not be consumed by destitution.”
37 La cosa piacque al faraone e a tutti i suoi ministri.	37 The counsel pleased Pharaoh and all his ministers.
38 E il faraone disse ai suoi ministri: "Potremo trovare un uomo come questo, in cui sia lo spirito di Dio?".	38 And he said to them, “Would we be able to find another such man, who is full of the Spirit of God?”
39 Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Dal momento che Dio ti ha fatto conoscere tutto ciò, non c'è nessuno che sia intelligente e sapiente come te.	39 Therefore, he said to Joseph: “Because God has revealed to you all that you have said, would I be able to find anyone wiser and as much like you?
40 Tu stesso sarai l'amministratore della mia casa, e ai tuoi ordini l'intero mio popolo obbedirà; per il trono soltanto, io sarò più grande di te".	40 You will be over my house, and to the authority of your mouth, all the people will show obedience. Only in one way, in the throne of the kingdom, will I go before you.”
41 Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Guarda, io ti stabilisco sopra tutto il paese d'Egitto".	41 And again, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have appointed you over the entire land of Egypt.”
42 Il faraone si tolse di mano il proprio anello e lo pose sulla mano di Giuseppe; lo fece rivestire di abiti di lino fine e gli mise al collo la collana d'oro.	42 And he took the ring from his own hand, and he gave it into his hand. And he clothed him with a robe of fine linen, and he placed a necklace of gold around his neck.
43 Poi lo fece montare sul suo secondo carro e davanti a lui si gridava: "Abrek!". E così lo si stabilì su tutta la terra di Egitto.	43 And he caused him to ascend upon his second swift chariot, with the herald proclaiming that everyone should bend their knee before him, and that they should know that he was governor over the entire land of Egypt.
44 Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Sono io il faraone, ma senza di te nessuno potrà alzare la mano o il piede in tutta la terra d'Egitto".	44 Likewise, the king said to Joseph: “I am Pharaoh: apart from your authority, no one will move hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”
45 E il faraone chiamò Giuseppe col nome di Zafnat-Paneach e gli diede in moglie Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On. Poi Giuseppe partì per visitare tutta la terra d'Egitto.	45 And he changed his name and called him, in the Egyptian tongue: ‘Savior of the world.’ And he gave him as a wife, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis. And so Joseph went out into the land of Egypt.
46 Giuseppe aveva trent'anni quando si presentò al faraone, re d'Egitto. Poi Giuseppe uscì dalla presenza del faraone e percorse tutta la terra d'Egitto.	46 (Now he was thirty years old when he stood in the sight of king Pharaoh.) And he traveled throughout the regions of Egypt.
47 Durante i sette anni di abbondanza la terra produsse a profusione.	47 And the fertility of the seven years arrived. And when the grain fields were reduced to sheaves, these were gathered into the storehouses of Egypt.
48 Egli raccolse tutti i viveri dei sette anni nei quali vi fu l'abbondanza nella terra d'Egitto, e ripose i viveri nelle città e cioè in ogni città ripose i viveri della campagna che aveva intorno.	48 And now all the abundance of grain was stored away in every city.
49 Giuseppe ammassò il grano come la sabbia del mare, in quantità grande assai, così da dover cessare di farne il computo, perché era incalcolabile.	49 And there was such a great abundance of wheat that it was comparable to the sands of the sea, and its bounty exceeded all measure.
50 Intanto nacquero a Giuseppe due figli, prima che venisse l'anno della carestia; glieli partorì Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On.	50 Then, before the famine arrived, Joseph had two sons born, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore for him.
51 E Giuseppe chiamò il primogenito Manasse, "perché -- disse -- Dio mi ha fatto dimenticare ogni mio affanno e tutta la casa di mio padre".	51 And he called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, saying, “God has caused me to forget all my labors and the house of my father.”
52 Ed il secondo lo chiamò Efraim, "perché -- disse -- Dio mi ha reso fecondo nella terra della mia afflizione".	52 Likewise, he named the second Ephraim, saying, “God has caused me to increase in the land of my poverty.”
53 Poi finirono i sette anni dell'abbondanza che vi era stata nella terra d'Egitto	53 And so, when the seven years of fertility that occurred in Egypt had passed,
54 e incominciarono a venire i sette anni di carestia, come aveva predetto Giuseppe. Ci fu carestia in tutti i paesi, ma in tutta la terra d'Egitto vi era del pane.	54 the seven years of destitution, which Joseph had predicted, began to arrive. And the famine prevailed throughout the whole world, but there was bread in all the land of Egypt.
55 Poi tutta la terra d'Egitto incominciò a sentire la fame, e il popolo gridò al faraone per il pane. Allora il faraone disse a tutti gli Egiziani: "Andate da Giuseppe, fate quello che vi dirà".	55 And being hungry, the people cried out to Pharaoh, asking for provisions. And he said to them: “Go to Joseph. And do whatever he will tell you.”
56 La carestia dominava su tutta la superficie della terra. Allora Giuseppe aprì tutti i depositi in cui vi era del grano, e vendette il grano agli Egiziani. Ma la carestia s'inasprì nella terra d'Egitto.	56 Then the famine increased daily in all the land. And Joseph opened all of the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians. For the famine had oppressed them also.
57 E tutti i paesi venivano in Egitto per comperare grano da Giuseppe, perché la carestia infieriva in tutta la terra.	57 And all the provinces came to Egypt, to buy food and to temper the misfortune of their destitution.
