CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
I wish that you would endure a small amount of my foolishness, so as to bear with me.1 Ειθε να υποφερητε ολιγον τι την αφροσυνην μου? αλλα και υποφερετε με.
For I am jealous toward you, with the jealousy of God. And I have espoused you to one husband, offering you as a chaste virgin to Christ.2 Διοτι ειμαι ζηλοτυπος προς εσας κατα ζηλοτυπιαν Θεου? επειδη σας ηρραρωνισα με ενα ανδρα, δια να σας παραστησω παρθενον αγνην εις τον Χριστον.
But I am afraid lest, as the serpent led astray Eve by his cleverness, so your minds might be corrupted and might fall away from the simplicity which is in Christ.3 φοβουμαι ομως μηπως, καθως ο οφις εξηπατησε την Ευαν δια της πανουργιας αυτου, διαφθαρη ουτως ο νους σας, εκπεσων απο της απλοτητος της εις τον Χριστον.
For if anyone arrives preaching another Christ, one whom we have not preached; or if you receive another Spirit, one whom you have not received; or another Gospel, one which you have not been given: you might permit him to guide you.4 Διοτι εαν ο ερχομενος κηρυττη προς εσας αλλον Ιησουν, τον οποιον ημεις δεν εκηρυξαμεν, η λαμβανητε αλλο πνευμα, το οποιον δεν ελαβετε, η αλλο ευαγγελιον, το οποιον δεν εδεχθητε, καλως ηθελετε υποφερει αυτον.
For I consider that I have done nothing less than the great Apostles.5 Αλλα στοχαζομαι οτι δεν ειμαι εις ουδεν κατωτερος των πρωτιστων αποστολων.
For although I may be unskilled in speech, yet I am not so in knowledge. But, in all things, we have been made manifest to you.6 Εαν δε και ημαι ιδιωτης κατα τον λογον, αλλ' ουχι κατα την γνωσιν, αλλ' εν παντι τροπω εφανερωθημεν κατα παντα εις εσας.
Or did I commit a sin by humbling myself so that you would be exalted? For I preached the Gospel of God to you freely.7 Η επραξα αμαρτιαν ταπεινονων εμαυτον δια να υψωθητε σεις, διοτι σας εκηρυξα δωρεαν το ευαγγελιον του Θεου;
I have taken from other churches, receiving a stipend from them to the benefit of your ministry.8 Αλλας εκκλησιας εγυμνωσα λαβων τα αναγκαια δια την υπηρεσιαν σας,
And when I was with you and in need, I was burdensome to no one. For the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied whatever was lacking to me. And in all things, I have kept myself, and I will keep myself, from being burdensome to you.9 και οτε ημην παρων εις εσας και εστερηθην, δεν κατεβαρυνα ουδενα? διοτι την στερησιν μου προσανεπληρωσαν οι αδελφοι ελθοντες απο Μακεδονιας? και κατα παντα εφυλαξα εμαυτον και θελω φυλαξει αβαρη προς εσας.
The truth of Christ is in me, and so this glorying shall not be broken away from me in the regions of Achaia.10 Ειναι αληθεια του Χριστου εν εμοι οτι η καυχησις αυτη δεν θελει αποκλεισθη εις εμε εν τοις τοποις της Αχαιας.
Why so? Is it because I do not love you? God knows I do.11 Δια τι; διοτι δεν σας αγαπω; ο Θεος γινωσκει.
But what I am doing, I will continue to do, so that I may take away an opportunity from those who desire an opportunity by which they may glory, so as to be considered to be like us.12 Ο, τι δε καμνω, τουτο και θελω καμνει, δια να εκκοψω την αφορμην των θελοντων αφορμην, ινα ευρεθωσιν εις εκεινο, δια το οποιον καυχωνται, τοιουτοι καθως και ημεις.
For false apostles, such as these deceitful workers, are presenting themselves as if they were Apostles of Christ.13 Διοτι οι τοιουτοι ειναι ψευδαποστολοι, εργαται δολιοι, μετασχηματιζομενοι εις αποστολους Χριστου.
And no wonder, for even Satan presents himself as if he were an Angel of light.14 Και ουδεν θαυμαστον? διοτι αυτος ο Σατανας μετασχηματιζεται εις αγγελον φωτος.
Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers present themselves as if they were ministers of justice, for their end shall be according to their works.15 Δεν ειναι λοιπον μεγα αν και οι διακονοι αυτου μετασχηματιζωνται εις διακονους δικαιοσυνης, των οποιων το τελος θελει εισθαι κατα τα εργα αυτων.
I say again. And let no one consider me to be foolish. Or, at least, accept me as if I were foolish, so that I also may glory a small amount.16 Παλιν λεγω, Μηδεις ας μη με στοχασθη οτι ειμαι αφρων? ει δε μη, δεχθητε με καν ως αφρονα, δια να καυχηθω και εγω ολιγον τι.
What I am saying is not said according to God, but as if in foolishness, in this matter of glorying.17 Ο, τι λαλω, εις τουτο το θαρρος της καυχησεως, δεν λαλω κατα τον Κυριον, αλλ' ως αφρων.
Since so many glory according to the flesh, I will glory also.18 Επειδη πολλοι καυχωνται κατα την σαρκα, θελω καυχηθη και εγω.
For you freely accept the foolish, though you yourselves claim to be wise.19 Διοτι σεις ευχαριστως υποφερετε τους αφρονας, οντες φρονιμοι?
For you permit it when someone guides you into servitude, even if he devours you, even if he takes from you, even if he is extolled, even if he strikes you repeatedly on the face.20 επειδη υποφερετε, εαν τις σας καταδουλονη, εαν τις σας κατατρωγη, εαν τις λαμβανη τα υμων, εαν τις επαιρηται, εαν τις σας κτυπα εις το προσωπον.
I speak according to disgrace, as if we had been weak in this regard. In this matter, (I speak in foolishness) if anyone dares, I dare also.21 Κατα ατιμιαν λεγω, ως να ημεθα ημεις ασθενεις. Αλλ' εις ο, τι τολμα τις, αφρονως ομιλω, τολμω και εγω.
They are Hebrews; so am I. They are Israelites; so am I. They are the offspring of Abraham; so am I.22 Εβραιοι ειναι; και εγω? Ισραηλιται ειναι; και εγω? σπερμα Αβρααμ ειναι; και εγω?
They are the ministers of Christ (I speak as if I were less wise); more so am I: with many more labors, with numerous imprisonments, with wounds beyond measure, with frequent mortifications.23 υπηρεται του Χριστου ειναι; παραφρονων λαλω, πλειοτερον εγω? εις κοπους περισσοτερον, εις πληγας καθ' υπερβολην, εις φυλακας περισσοτερον, εις θανατους πολλακις.
On five occasions, I received forty stripes, less one, from the Jews.24 υπο των Ιουδαιων πεντακις ελαβον πληγας τεσσαρακοντα παρα μιαν,
Three times, I was beaten with rods. One time, I was stoned. Three times, I was shipwrecked. For a night and a day, I was in the depths of the sea.25 τρις ερραβδισθην, απαξ ελιθοβοληθην, τρις εναυαγησα, εν ημερονυκτιον εν τω βυθω εκαμον.
I have made frequent journeys, through dangerous waters, in danger of robbers, in danger from my own nation, in danger from the Gentiles, in danger in the city, in danger in the wilderness, in danger in the sea, in danger from false brothers,26 εις οδοιποριας πολλακις, εις κινδυνους ποταμων, κινδυνους ληστων, κινδυνους εκ του γενους, κινδυνους εξ εθνων, κινδυνους εν πολει, κινδυνους εν ερημια, κινδυνους εν θαλασση, κινδυνους εν ψευδαδελφοις.
with hardships and difficulties, with much vigilance, in hunger and thirst, with frequent fasts, in cold and nakedness,27 εν κοπω και μοχθω, εν αγρυπνιαις πολλακις, εν πεινη και διψη, εν νηστειαις πολλακις, εν ψυχει και γυμνοτητι?
and, in addition to these things, which are external: there is my daily earnestness and solicitude for all the churches.28 εκτος των εξωτερικων ο καθ' ημεραν επικειμενος εις εμε αγων, η μεριμνα πασων των εκκλησιων.
Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is scandalized, and I am not being burned?29 Τις ασθενει, και δεν ασθενω; τις σκανδαλιζεται, και εγω δεν φλεγομαι;
If it is necessary to glory, I will glory of the things that concern my weaknesses.30 Εαν πρεπη να καυχωμαι, θελω καυχηθη εις τα της ασθενειας μου.
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.31 Ο Θεος και Πατηρ του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου, ο ων ευλογητος εις τους αιωνας, γνωριζει οτι δεν ψευδομαι.
At Damascus, the governor of the nation under Aretas the king, watched over the city of the Damascenes, so as to apprehend me.32 Εν Δαμασκω ο εθναρχης του βασιλεως Αρετα εφρουρει την πολιν των Δαμασκηνων, θελων να με πιαση,
And, through a window, I was let down along the wall in a basket; and so I escaped his hands.33 και δια θυριδος απο του τειχους κατεβιβασθην εν κοφινω και εξεφυγον τας χειρας αυτου.
