CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
Now he also told them a parable, that we should continually pray and not cease,1 Ελεγε δε και παραβολην προς αυτους περι του οτι πρεπει παντοτε να προσευχωνται και να μη αποκαμνωσι,
saying: “There was a certain judge in a certain city, who did not fear God and did not respect man.2 λεγων? Κριτης τις ητο εν τινι πολει, οστις τον Θεον δεν εφοβειτο και ανθρωπον δεν εντρεπετο.
But there was a certain widow in that city, and she went to him, saying, ‘Vindicate me from my adversary.’3 Ητο δε χηρα τις εν εκεινη τη πολει και ηρχετο προς αυτον, λεγουσα?
And he refused to do so for a long time. But afterwards, he said within himself: ‘Even though I do not fear God, nor respect man,4 Και μεχρι τινος δεν ηθελησε?
yet because this widow is pestering me, I will vindicate her, lest by returning, she may, in the end, wear me out.’
Then the Lord said: “Listen to what the unjust judge said.6 Και ειπεν ο Κυριος? Ακουσατε τι λεγει ο αδικος κριτης?
So then, will not God grant the vindication of his elect, who cry out to him day and night? Or will he continue to endure them?7 ο δε Θεος δεν θελει καμει την εκδικησιν των εκλεκτων αυτου των βοωντων προς αυτον ημεραν και νυκτα, αν και μακροθυμη δι' αυτους;
I tell you that he will quickly bring vindication to them. Yet truly, when the Son of man returns, do you think that he will find faith on earth?”8 σας λεγω οτι θελει καμει την εκδικησιν αυτων ταχεως. Πλην ο Υιος του ανθρωπου, οταν ελθη, αρα γε θελει ευρει την πιστιν επι της γης;
Now about certain persons who consider themselves to be just, while disdaining others, he told also this parable:9 Ειπε δε και προς τινας, τους θαρρουντας εις εαυτους οτι ειναι δικαιοι και καταφρονουντας τους λοιπους, την παραβολην ταυτην?
“Two men ascended to the temple, in order to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.10 Ανθρωποι δυο ανεβησαν εις το ιερον δια να προσευχηθωσιν, ο εις Φαρισαιος και ο αλλος τελωνης.
Standing, the Pharisee prayed within himself in this way: ‘O God, I give thanks to you that I am not like the rest of men: robbers, unjust, adulterers, even as this tax collector chooses to be.11 Ο Φαρισαιος σταθεις προσηυχετο καθ' εαυτον ταυτα?
I fast twice between Sabbaths. I give tithes from all that I possess.’12 νηστευω δις της εβδομαδος, αποδεκατιζω παντα οσα εχω.
And the tax collector, standing at a distance, was not willing to even lift up his eyes to heaven. But he struck his chest, saying: ‘O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’13 Και ο τελωνης μακροθεν ισταμενος, δεν ηθελεν ουδε τους οφθαλμους να υψωση εις τον ουρανον, αλλ' ετυπτεν εις το στηθος αυτου, λεγων?
I say to you, this one descended to his house justified, but not the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”14 Σας λεγω, Κατεβη ουτος εις τον οικον αυτου δεδικαιωμενος μαλλον παρα εκεινος?
And they were bringing little children to him, so that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.15 Εφερον δε προς αυτον και τα βρεφη, δια να εγγιζη αυτα?
But Jesus, calling them together, said: “Allow the children to come to me, and do not be an obstacle to them. For of such is the kingdom of God.16 Ο Ιησους ομως προσκαλεσας αυτα, ειπεν? Αφησατε τα παιδια να ερχωνται προς εμε, και μη εμποδιζετε αυτα? διοτι των τοιουτων ειναι η βασιλεια του Θεου.
Amen, I say to you, whoever will not accept the kingdom of God like a child, will not enter into it.”17 Αληθως σας λεγω, Οστις δεν δεχθη την βασιλειαν του Θεου ως παιδιον, δεν θελει εισελθει εις αυτην.
And a certain leader questioned him, saying: “Good teacher, what should I do to possess eternal life?”18 Και αρχων τις ηρωτησεν αυτον λεγων? Διδασκαλε αγαθε, τι να πραξω δια να κληρονομησω ζωην αιωνιον;
Then Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.19 Και ο Ιησους ειπε προς αυτον? Τι με λεγεις αγαθον; ουδεις αγαθος ειμη εις ο Θεος.
You know the commandments: You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.”20 Τας εντολας εξευρεις?
And he said, “I have kept all these things from my youth.”21 Ο δε ειπε?
And when Jesus heard this, he said to him: “One thing is still lacking for you. Sell all the things that you have, and give to the poor. And then you will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.”22 Ακουσας δε ταυτα ο Ιησους, ειπε προς αυτον?
When he heard this, he became very sorrowful. For he was very rich.23 Ο δε ακουσας ταυτα εγεινε περιλυπος διοτι ητο πλουσιος σφοδρα.
Then Jesus, seeing him brought to sorrow, said: “How difficult it is for those who have money to enter into the kingdom of God!24 Ιδων δε αυτον ο Ιησους περιλυπον γενομενον, ειπε? Πως δυσκολως θελουσιν εισελθει εις την βασιλειαν του Θεου οι εχοντες τα χρηματα?
For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy man to enter into the kingdom of God.”25 διοτι ευκολωτερον ειναι να περαση καμηλος δια τρυπης βελονης, παρα πλουσιος να εισελθη εις την βασιλειαν του Θεου.
And those who were listening to this said, “Then who is able to be saved?”26 Ειπον δε οι ακουσαντες? Και τις δυναται να σωθη;
He said to them, “Things that are impossible with men are possible with God.”27 Ο δε ειπε?
And Peter said, “Behold, we have left everything, and we have followed you.”28 Ειπε δε ο Πετρος?
And he said to them: “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has left behind home, or parents, or brothers, or a wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,29 Ο δε ειπε προς αυτους? Αληθως σας λεγω οτι δεν ειναι ουδεις, οστις αφηκεν οικιαν η γονεις η αδελφους η γυναικα η τεκνα ενεκεν της βασιλειας του Θεου,
who will not receive much more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”30 οστις δεν θελει απολαυσει πολλαπλασια εν τω καιρω τουτω και εν τω ερχομενω αιωνι ζωην αιωνιον.
Then Jesus took the twelve aside, and he said to them: “Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and everything shall be completed which was written by the prophets about the Son of man.31 Παραλαβων δε τους δωδεκα, ειπε προς αυτους? Ιδου, αναβαινομεν εις Ιεροσολυμα, και θελουσιν εκτελεσθη παντα τα γεγραμμενα δια των προφητων εις τον Υιον του ανθρωπου.
For he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and he will be mocked and scourged and spit upon.32 Διοτι θελει παραδοθη εις τα εθνη και θελει εμπαιχθη και υβρισθη και εμπτυσθη,
And after they have scourged him, they will kill him. And on the third day, he will rise again.”33 και μαστιγωσαντες θελουσι θανατωσει αυτον, και τη τριτη ημερα θελει αναστηθη.
But they understood none of these things. For this word was concealed from them, and they did not understand the things that were said.34 Και αυτοι δεν ενοησαν ουδεν εκ τουτων, και ητο ο λογος ουτος κεκρυμμενος απ' αυτων, και δεν ενοουν τα λεγομενα.
Now it happened that, as he was approaching Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting beside the way, begging.35 Οτε δε επλησιαζεν εις την Ιεριχω, τυφλος τις εκαθητο παρα την οδον ζητων?
And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this was.36 ακουσας δε οχλον διαβαινοντα, ηρωτα τι ειναι τουτο.
And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.37 Απηγγειλαν δε προς αυτον οτι Ιησους ο Ναζωραιος διαβαινει.
And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”38 Και εφωναξε λεγων?
And those who were passing by rebuked him, so that he would be silent. Yet truly, he cried out all the more, “Son of David, take pity on me!”39 Και οι προπορευομενοι επεπληττον αυτον δια να σιωπηση?
Then Jesus, standing still, ordered him to be brought to him. And when he had drawn near, he questioned him,40 Σταθεις δε ο Ιησους, προσεταξε να φερθη προς αυτον.
saying, “What do you want, that I might do for you?” So he said, “Lord, that I may see.”41 λεγων?
And Jesus said to him: “Look around. Your faith has saved you.”42 Και ο Ιησους ειπε προς αυτον?
And immediately he saw. And he followed him, magnifying God. And all the people, when they saw this, gave praise to God.43 Και παρευθυς ανεβλεψε και ηκολουθει αυτον δοξαζων τον Θεον?
