Sirach 41

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 O death, how bitter is the memory of you: to a man who has peace in his substance,	1 Ó morte, como tua lembrança é amarga para o homem que vive em paz no meio de seus bens,
2 to a quiet man, and to him whose ways are directed properly in all things, and who still has the strength to take nourishment.	2 para o homem tranqüilo e afortunado em tudo, e que ainda se encontra em condição de saborear o alimento!
3 O death, your judgment is good to the indigent man, and to him whose strength has diminished,	3 Ó morte, tua sentença é suave para o indigente, cujas forças se esgotam,
4 who is failing due to old age, and who is anxious about all things, and to the unbelieving man who has lost patience.	4 para quem está no declínio da idade, carregado de cuidados, para quem não tem mais confiança e perde a paciência.
5 Do not choose to dread the judgment of death. Remember the things that occurred before you, and the things that will occur after you. This judgment is from the Lord upon all flesh.	5 Não temas a sentença da morte; lembra-te dos que te precederam, e de todos os que virão depois de ti: é a sentença pronunciada pelo Senhor sobre todo ser vivo.
6 And what will happen to you is well-pleasing to the Most High, whether in ten, or one hundred, or one thousand years.	6 Que te sobrevirá por vontade do Altíssimo? Dez anos, cem anos, mil anos...
7 For death is no indictment of life.	7 Na habitação dos mortos não se tomam em consideração os anos de vida.
8 The sons of sinners, and those who pass their time in the manner of the houses of the impious, become sons of abominations.	8 Os filhos dos pecadores tornam-se objeto de abominação, assim como os que freqüentam as casas dos ímpios.
9 The inheritance of the sons of sinners will perish, and continual disgrace will be with their offspring.	9 A herança dos filhos dos pecadores perecerá. O opróbrio prende-se à sua posteridade.
10 The sons of an impious father will complain, for they are in disgrace because of him.	10 Os filhos de um homem ímpio queixam-se de seu pai porque é por sua culpa que estão envergonhados.
11 Woe to you, impious men, who have abandoned the law of the Most High Lord!	11 Desgraçados de vós, homens ímpios, que abandonastes a lei do Senhor, o Altíssimo!
12 And when you are born, you will be born into a curse; and when you die, your portion will be in a curse.	12 Se nasceis, é na maldição, e quando morrerdes, tereis a maldição como herança.
13 All things that are from the earth shall return to the earth. Similarly, the impious will proceed from a curse unto perdition.	13 Tudo o que vem da terra voltará à terra. Assim os ímpios passam da maldição à ruína.
14 The grieving of men is in their body, but the name of the impious will be wiped away.	14 Os homens se entristecem com (a perda) de seu corpo; porém, até o nome dos ímpios será aniquilado.
15 Have concern for your good name. For this will continue with you, more so than a thousand precious and great treasures.	15 Cuida em procurar para ti uma boa reputação, pois esse bem ser-te-á mais estável que mil tesouros grandes e preciosos.
16 A good life has its number of days, but a good name will continue forever.	16 A vida honesta só tem um número de dias; a boa fama, porém, permanece para sempre.
17 Sons, practice discipline peacefully. For what use is there in either concealed wisdom, or undiscovered treasure?	17 Meus filhos, guardai em paz meu ensinamento: pois uma sabedoria oculta e um tesouro invisível, para que servem essas duas coisas?
18 Better is the man who hides his foolishness than the man who hides his wisdom.	18 Mais vale um homem que dissimula a sua ignorância, que um homem que oculta a sua sabedoria.
19 Yet truly, have respect for these things which proceed from my mouth.	19 Tende, pois, vergonha do que vou dizer,
20 For it is not good to observe every reverence. And all things do not please all persons in their beliefs.	20 porque não é bom ter vergonha de tudo, e nem todas as co isas agradam, na verdade, a todos.
21 Have shame of these things: of fornication before father and mother, and of a lie before the first leader and the powerful,	21 Envergonhai-vos da fornicação, diante de vosso pai e de vossa mãe; e da mentira, diante do que governa e do poderoso;
22 of a crime before a ruler or a judge, of iniquity before a congregation or a people,	22 de um delito, diante do príncipe e do juiz; da iniqüidade, diante da assembléia e do povo;
23 of injustice before a companion or a friend, and of the place in which you live,	23 da injustiça, diante de teu companheiro e de teu amigo;
24 of theft, and of the truth before God, and of the covenant, of reclining to eat bread, and of deceitfulness in giving or receiving,	24 de cometeres um roubo no lugar onde moras, por causa da verdade de Deus e de sua aliança. Envergonha-te de pôr os cotovelos sobre a mesa, de usar de fraude no dar e no receber,
25 of silence before those who greet you, of looking upon a woman of fornication, and of averting your face from a relative.	25 de não responder àqueles que te saúdam, de lançar os olhos para uma prostituta,
26 You should not avert your face from your neighbor, nor should you take away a portion and not restore it.	26 de desviar os olhos de teu próximo, de tirar o que a ele pertence, sem devolver-lho.
27 You should not stare at another man’s wife, and nor pursue his handmaid, nor approach her bed.	27 Não olhes para a mulher de outrem; não tenhas intimidades com tua criada, e não te ponhas junto do seu leito.
28 Avoid reproachful speeches before friends, and when you give, you should not place blame.	28 Envergonha-te diante de teus amigos de dizer palavras ofensivas; não censures o que deste.
