Ephesians 2

1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins	1 Et vous, vous étiez morts par vos transgressions et par vos péchés,
2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel.	2 dans lesquels vous marchiez autrefois selon l'esprit de ce monde, selon le prince de la puissance de l'air, l'esprit qui agit maintenant dans les fils de l'incrédulité.
3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world.	3 Nous tous aussi nous étions autrefois dans ces désordres, et nous vivions selon les convoitises de notre chair, accomplissant la volonté de la chair et de nos pensées; et nous étions par nature enfants de colère, comme les autres.
4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us,	4 Mais Dieu, qui est riche en miséricorde, à cause de l'amour extrême dont Il nous a aimés,
5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved-	5 lorsque nous étions morts par nos péchés, nous a rendu la vie dans le Christ (par la grâce duquel vous avez été sauvés),
6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.	6 et avec Lui Il nous a ressuscités et nous a fait asseoir dans les Cieux, en Jésus-Christ,
7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace.	7 afin de montrer dans les siècles à venir les richesses surabondantes de Sa grâce, par Sa bonté envers nous, en Jésus-Christ.
8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God;	8 Car c'est par la grâce que vous avez été sauvés, au moyen de la foi; et cela ne vient pas de vous, puisque c'est un don de Dieu.
9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.	9 Ce n'est point par les oeuvres, afin que nul ne se glorifie.
10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life.	10 Car nous sommes Son ouvrage, ayant été créés en Jésus-Christ, en vue des bonnes oeuvres que Dieu a préparées, afin que nous y marchions.
11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation,	11 C'est pourquoi souvenez-vous qu'autrefois, vous païens dans la chair, appelés incirconcis par ceux qu'on appelle circoncis, et qui le sont dans la chair par la main des hommes,
12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God.	12 vous étiez en ce temps-là sans Christ, séparés de la société d'Israël, étrangers aux alliances divines, n'ayant pas l'espérance des biens promis, et sans Dieu en ce monde.
13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ.	13 Mais maintenant, dans le Christ Jésus, vous qui étiez autrefois éloignés, vous avez été rapprochés par le sang du Christ.
14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility,	14 Car c'est Lui qui est notre paix, qui des deux peuples n'en a fait qu'un; Il a renversé le mur de séparation, l'inimitié, dans Sa chair;
15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them,	15 Il a aboli la loi des ordonnances avec ses prescriptions, afin de former en Lui-même, de ces deux peuples, un seul homme nouveau, en faisant la paix,
16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility.	16 et de les réconcilier tous deux dans un seul corps, avec Dieu, par la Croix, en détruisant en Lui-même leur inimitié.
17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.	17 Et Il est venu annoncer la paix, à vous qui étiez loin, et la paix à ceux qui étaient près;
18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father.	18 car c'est par Lui que nous avons accès les uns et les autres dans un même Esprit auprès du Père.
19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household.	19 Vous n'êtes donc plus des étrangers et des gens du dehors; mais vous êtes concitoyens des saints, et membres de la famille de Dieu,
20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone.	20 puisque vous avez été édifiés sur le fondement des Apôtres et des prophètes, le Christ Jésus étant Lui-même la pierre angulaire.
21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord;	21 En Lui, tout l'édifice, bien coordonné, grandit pour être un temple saint dans le Seigneur.
22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit.	22 En lui, vous aussi, vous entrez dans sa structure, pour être une habitation de Dieu par l'Esprit-Saint.
