Tobit 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 In the reign of Esarhaddon, therefore, I returned home, and my wife Anna was restored to me with myson Tobias. At our feast of Pentecost (the feast of Weeks) there was a good dinner. I took my place for the meal;	1 Dopo queste cose, essendo la festa di Dio, e Tobia avendo apparecchiato uno grande desinare in casa sua,
2 the table was brought to me and various dishes were brought. I then said to my son Tobias, 'Go, mychild, and seek out some poor, loyal-hearted man among our brothers exiled in Nineveh, and bring him to sharemy meal. I wil wait until you come back, my child.'	2 disse al suo figliuolo: vae, e mena alquanti uomini della nostra tribù, i quali temano Iddio, acciò che mangino con esso noi.
3 So Tobias went out to look for some poor man among our brothers, but he came back again and said,'Father!' I replied, 'What is it, my child?' He went on, 'Father, one of our nation has just been murdered; he hasbeen strangled and then thrown down in the market place; he is there still.'	3 Ed essendo ito e tornato, nunciò al padre, dicendo uno de' figliuoli d' Israel sì è nella piazza morto. Onde egli si mosse tosto del suo luogo, lasciando il convito; e digiuno pervenne al corpo.
4 I sprang up at once, left my meal untouched, took the man from the market place and laid him in one ofmy rooms, waiting until sunset to bury him.	4 E togliendolo celatamente, il portoe a casa sua, acciò che quando il sole fosse tramontato, il seppellisse.
5 I came in again and washed myself and ate my bread in sorrow,	5 E da poi ch' egli ebbe nascoso il corpo, manicoe del pane con pianto e con tremore,
6 remembering the words of the prophet Amos concerning Bethel: I shal turn your festivals into mourningand all your singing into lamentation.	6 ricordandosi di quello sermone che Iddio avea detto per bocca d' Amos profeta: i dì delle vostre feste si convertiranno in lamento e in pianto.
7 And I wept. When the sun was down, I went and dug a grave and buried him.	7 E quando il sole fu tramontato, ed egli andò e seppellillo.
8 My neighbours laughed and said, 'See! He is not afraid any more.' (You must remember that a pricehad been set on my head earlier for this very thing.) 'Once before he had to flee, yet here he is, beginning tobury the dead again.'	8 Onde tutti i suoi parenti (e amici) sì lo riprendeano, e diceano: tu fosti condannato ad esser morto per questa cagione, e a pena iscampasti dalla morte; e ancora tu seppellisci i morti?
9 That night I took a bath; then I went into the courtyard and lay down by the courtyard wall. Since it washot I left my face uncovered.	9 Ma Tobia, temendo Iddio più che il re, togliea i corpi morti, e nascondevagli in casa sua; e poi di mezza notte gli seppelliva.
10 I did not know that there were sparrows in the wal above my head; their hot droppings fel into myeyes. This caused white spots to form, which I went to have treated by the doctors. But the more ointments theytried me with, the more the spots blinded me, and in the end, I became completely blind. I remained without sightfour years; al my brothers were distressed on my behalf; and Ahikar provided for my upkeep for two years, untilhe left for Elymais.	10 Onde egli avvenne che essendo uno dì (Tobia) affaticato per cagione delle sepolture, sì tornò a casa sua, e gittossi a lato ad una pariete, e addormentossi.
11 My wife Anna then undertook woman's work; she would spin wool and take cloth to weave;	11 E sopra gli occhi suoi sì cadè d' uno nido lo sterco della rondine caldo; onde egli per questo divenne cieco.
12 she used to deliver whatever had been ordered from her and then receive payment. Now on theseventh day of the month of Dystros, she finished a piece of work and delivered it to her customers. They paidher al that was due, and into the bargain presented her with a kid for a meal.	12 Veramente Iddio permise che questa tentazione venisse a lui, acciò ch' ello desse esempio di pazienza a quelli che doveano venire dopo lui, sì come fu del santo Iob.
13 When the kid came into my house, it began to bleat. I called to my wife and said, 'Where does thiscreature come from? Suppose it has been stolen! Let the owners have it back; we have no right to eat stolengoods'.	13 E avvegnadio che insino dalla sua fanciullezza avesse temuto Iddio, e osservati i suoi comandamenti, egli impertanto non si contristoe contra Iddio per la piaga della cecitade la quale gli era venuta.
14 She said, 'No, it was a present given me over and above my wages.' I did not believe her, and told herto give it back to the owners (I felt deeply ashamed of her). To which, she replied, 'What about your own alms?What about your own good works? Everyone knows what return you have had for them.'	14 Ma costante istette nel timore di Dio, rendendo esso grazia a Dio tutto il tempo della vita sua.
	15 E siccome i re riprendendo assalivano Iob, così i parenti e gli amici di Tobia (riprendeano e) faceano beffe della vita sua, dicendo:
	16 dov'è la tua speranza, per la quale tu facevi sacrificii e sepolture?
	17 Ma Tobia gli riprendea, dicendo: non parlate così;
	18 però che noi siamo figliuoli di santi, e aspettiamo quella vita la quale darà Iddio a coloro che non mutano mai la loro fede da lui.
	19 E la sua moglie Anna continuamente s'andava affaticando di fuori a tessere; e della fatica delle sue mani quello guadagno e cibo che potea acquistare, recava a lui.
	20 Onde avvenne ch' ella arrecoe uno capretto a casa.
	21 E quando Tobia sentì belare il capretto, sì disse: guardate ch' egli non sia involato; rendetelo a cui egli è; imperciò che non è lecito a noi mangiare o ricevere alcuna cosa di furto.
	22 A queste cose la moglie adirata rispose: manifestamente la tua speranza è fatta vana, e le tue limosine ora si veggono.
	23 E in questo modo e per altre parole sì gli rimproverava.
