Sirach 18

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.	1 Colui che vive in eterno, creoe tutte le cose insieme. Iddio solo sarae giustificato, e permane re invitto in eterno.
2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?	2 Chi sarae sufficiente a narrare le opere sue?
3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?	3 Chi cercherae le maraviglie sue?
4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.	4 Chi racconterae la virtude della grandezza sua? e chi aggiugnerae a narrare la misericordia sua?
5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.	5 Non si possono scemare e accrescere (per uomo) nè trovare le maraviglie di Dio.
6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?	6 Quando l' uomo averà consumato, allora comincerà; e quando l' uomo si riposerà, allora adoperrae.
7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:	7 Che è l'uomo, e che è la grazia sua? e che è bene, o che è male di colui?
8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.	8 Il numero dei dì dell' uomo, sì come fosse molto, in cento anni; sì come gocciola d'acqua di mare, e sì come il sassolino della rena, così sono piccioli (li dì e) gli anni nel dì del secolo.
9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.	9 Per questo è Iddio paziente in loro, e sparge sopra loro la misericordia sua.
10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.	10 Vide la presunzione del cuore loro, che è rea; e conobbe la sovversione loro, che è malvagia.
11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,	11 Però (che) adempiè la misericordia in loro, e mostrò loro la via della dirittura.
12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;	12 La misericordia dell' uomo è circa del prossimo suo; ma la misericordia di Dio sì è sopra tutta la carne.
13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.	13 Colui che ha misericordia, ammaestra e insegna, sì come lo pastore la greggia sua.
14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.	14 Colui che riceve la dottrina della misericordia, è misericorde; colui anco che si affretta (d' andare) nelli giudicii suoi.
15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.	15 Figliuolo, non ti lamentare nelli beni, e non dare tristizia di mala parola a ciò che tu dài.
16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.	16 Or non refrigeroe la rugiada l' arsura? e così la parola è meglio che quello ch' è dato.
17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.	17 Vale la parola sopra il bene donato; la parola e il dono sì sono all' uomo giustificato.
18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.	18 Lo stolto spiacevolmente rimproverrae; il dono del matto fae languire gli occhi.
19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.	19 Anzi il giudicio apparecchia la giustizia a te; e in prima che tu favelli, impara.
20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.	20 Anzi che infermi apparecchia la medicina, e inanzi che tu vegna al giudicio esamina te medesimo, e troverai pietade nel conspetto di Dio.
21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.	21 Anzi la infirmitade umìliati, e nel tempo della infirmitade mostra la conversazione tua.
22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.	22 Adora sempre, e non temere di giustificarti (sempre) infino alla morte; però che il pagamento di Dio permane in eterno.
23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.	23 Inanzi la orazione apparecchia l' anima tua; e non essere sì come l' uomo che tenti Iddio.
24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.	24 Ricordati dell' ira nel dì della fine; e fa nella conversazione tua, opera di retribuzione.
25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.	25 Ricordati della povertade nel tempo dell' abbondanza, e delle necessitadi della povertade nel die della ricchezza.
26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.	26 Dalla mattina al vespro si muterà il tempo; e tutte queste cose sono create nel conspetto di Dio.
27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.	27 L'uomo savio in tutte le cose teme, e nel dì de' peccatori si guarderae dalla pigrizia.
28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;	28 Ogni scaltrito conosce la sapienza, e confesseralla a colui che l'averae trovata.
29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.	29 E li sensati in parole e fatti saviamente adoperarono, e intesono la veritade e giustizia, e impetrarono proverbii e giudicii.
30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.	30 Non andare dietro alla concupiscenza, e pàrtiti dal tuo desiderio.
31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.	31 Se tu concederai all' anima tua la sua concupiscenza, ella farà di te rallegrare li nimici tuoi.
32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;	32 Non ti dilettare nelle turbe nè nelli pochi; però ch' egli è continuo il fallire di coloro.
33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.	33 Non sarai mezzano nella contenzione della prestanza; tu non hai alcuna cosa nel mondo; sarai invidioso alla vita tua.
