JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Lorsqu'Abram eut atteint 99 ans, Yahvé lui apparut et lui dit: "Je suis El Shaddaï, marche en maprésence et sois parfait.1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God the Almighty. Walk in my presence and be blameless.
J'institue mon alliance entre moi et toi, et je t'accroîtrai extrêmement."2 Between you and me I will establish my covenant, and I will multiply you exceedingly."
Et Abram tomba la face contre terre. Dieu lui parla ainsi:3 When Abram prostrated himself, God continued to speak to him:
"Moi, voici mon alliance avec toi: tu deviendras père d'une multitude de nations.4 "My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations.
No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations.
Je te rendrai extrêmement fécond, de toi je ferai des nations, et des rois sortiront de toi.6 I will render you exceedingly fertile; I will make nations of you; kings shall stem from you.
I will maintain my covenant with you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting pact, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
A toi et à ta race après toi, je donnerai le pays où tu séjournes, tout le pays de Canaan, enpossession à perpétuité, et je serai votre Dieu."8 I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land in which you are now staying, the whole land of Canaan, as a permanent possession; and I will be their God."
Dieu dit à Abraham: "Et toi, tu observeras mon alliance, toi et ta race après toi, de génération engénération.9 God also said to Abraham: "On your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.
This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you that you must keep: every male among you shall be circumcised.
Vous ferez circoncire la chair de votre prépuce, et ce sera le signe de l'alliance entre moi et vous.11 Circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and that shall be the mark of the covenant between you and me.
Quand ils auront huit jours, tous vos mâles seront circoncis, de génération en génération. Qu'ilsoit né dans la maison ou acheté à prix d'argent à quelque étranger qui n'est pas de ta race,12 Throughout the ages, every male among you, when he is eight days old, shall be circumcised, including houseborn slaves and those acquired with money from any foreigner who is not of your blood.
Monalliance sera marquée dans votre chair comme une alliance perpétuelle.13 Yes, both the houseborn slaves and those acquired with money must be circumcised. Thus my covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting pact.
If a male is uncircumcised, that is, if the flesh of his foreskin has not been cut away, such a one shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."
Dieu dit à Abraham: "Ta femme Saraï, tu ne l'appelleras plus Saraï, mais son nom est Sara.15 God further said to Abraham: "As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai; her name shall be Sarah.
Je la bénirai et même je te donnerai d'elle un fils; je la bénirai, elle deviendra des nations, et desrois de peuples viendront d'elle."16 I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her. Him also will I bless; he shall give rise to nations, and rulers of peoples shall issue from him."
Abraham tomba la face contre terre, et il se mit à rire car il se disait en lui-même: "Un fils naîtra-t-il à un homme de cent ans, et Sara qui a 90 ans va-t-elle enfanter?"17 Abraham prostrated himself and laughed as he said to himself, "Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?"
Abraham dit à Dieu: "Oh! qu'Ismaël vive devant ta face!"18 Then Abraham said to God, "Let but Ishmael live on by your favor!"
Mais Dieu reprit: "Non, mais ta femme Sara te donnera un fils, tu l'appelleras Isaac, j'établiraimon alliance avec lui, comme une alliance perpétuelle, pour être son Dieu et celui de sa race après lui.19 God replied: "Nevertheless, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. I will maintain my covenant with him as an everlasting pact, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him.
As for Ishmael, I am heeding you: I hereby bless him. I will make him fertile and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve chieftains, and I will make of him a great nation.
But my covenant I will maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you by this time next year."
Lorsqu'il eut fini de lui parler, Dieu remonta d'auprès d'Abraham.22 When he had finished speaking with him, God departed from Abraham.
Alors Abraham prit son fils Ismaël, tous ceux qui étaient nés dans sa maison, tous ceux qu'il avaitacquis de son argent, bref tous les mâles parmi les gens de la maison d'Abraham, et il circoncit la chair de leurprépuce, ce jour même, comme Dieu le lui avait dit.23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael and all his slaves, whether born in his house or acquired with his money--every male among the members of Abraham's household--and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins on that same day, as God had told him to do.
Abraham était âgé de 99 ans lorsqu'on circoncit la chair de son prépuce24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised,
et Ismaël, son fils, était âgé de treize ans lorsqu'on circoncit la chair de son prépuce.25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised.
Ce jour même furent circoncis Abraham et son fils Ismaël,26 Thus, on that same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised;
et tous les hommes de sa maison, enfants de la maison ou acquis d'un étranger à prix d'argent, furent circoncis avec lui.27 and all the male members of his household, including the slaves born in his house or acquired with his money from foreigners, were circumcised with him.
