Lettera ai Filippesi - Philippians 1

GREEK BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Παυλος και Τιμοθεος, δουλοι του Ιησου Χριστου, προς παντας τους αγιους εν Χριστω Ιησου τους οντας εν Φιλιπποις μετα των επισκοπων και διακονων.	1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, togetherwith their presiding elders and the deacons.
2 χαρις ειη υμιν και ειρηνη απο Θεου Πατρος ημων και Κυριου Ιησου Χριστου.	2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Ευχαριστω τον Θεον μου οσακις σας ενθυμουμαι,	3 I thank my God whenever I think of you,
4 παντοτε εν παση προσευχη μου υπερ παντων υμων δεομενος μετα χαρας,	4 and every time I pray for you al , I always pray with joy
5 δια την εις το ευαγγελιον κοινωνιαν σας απο της πρωτης ημερας μεχρι του νυν,	5 for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day up to the present.
6 βεβαιος ων εις αυτο τουτο, οτι εκεινος οστις ηρχισεν εις εσας καλον εργον θελει επιτελεσει αυτο μεχρι της ημερας του Ιησου Χριστου,	6 I am quite confident that the One who began a good work in you wil go on completing it until the Day ofJesus Christ comes.
7 καθως ειναι δικαιον εις εμε να φρονω τουτο περι παντων υμων, διοτι σας εχω εν τη καρδια μου, και εισθε παντες σεις και εις τα δεσμα μου και εις την απολογιαν και εις την βεβαιωσιν του ευαγγελιου συγκοινωνοι μου της χαριτος.	7 It is only right that I should feel like this towards you all, because you have a place in my heart, sinceyou have all shared together in the grace that has been mine, both my chains and my work defending andestablishing the gospel.
8 Διοτι μαρτυς μου ειναι ο Θεος, οτι σας επιποθω παντας με σπλαγχνα Ιησου Χριστου.	8 For God wil testify for me how much I long for you al with the warm longing of Christ Jesus;
9 Και τουτο προσευχομαι, να περισσευση η αγαπη σας ετι μαλλον και μαλλον εις επιγνωσιν και εις πασαν νοησιν,	9 it is my prayer that your love for one another may grow more and more with the knowledge andcomplete understanding
10 δια να διακρινητε τα διαφεροντα, ωστε να ησθε ειλικρινεις και απροσκοποι μεχρι της ημερας του Χριστου,	10 that will help you to come to true discernment, so that you wil be innocent and free of any trace of guiltwhen the Day of Christ comes,
11 πληρεις καρπων δικαιοσυνης των δια του Ιησου Χριστου εις δοξαν και επαινον Θεου.	11 entirely fil ed with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.
12 Θελω δε να εξευρητε, αδελφοι, οτι τα συμβαντα εις εμε συνετρεξαν μαλλον εις προοδον του ευαγγελιου,	12 Now I want you to realise, brothers, that the circumstances of my present life are helping rather thanhindering the advance of the gospel.
13 ωστε τα δια τον Χριστον δεσμα μου εγειναν φανερα εις ολον το πραιτωριον και εις παντας τους λοιπους,	13 My chains in Christ have become wel known not only to al the Praetorium, but to everybody else,
14 και οι πλειοτεροι των εν Κυριω αδελφων πεποιθοτες εις τα δεσμα μου τολμωσι περισσοτερον να κηρυττωσιν αφοβως τον λογον.	14 and so most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my chains and are getting moreand more daring in announcing the Message without any fear.
15 Τινες μεν και δια φθονον και εριδα, τινες δε και απο καλης θελησεως κηρυττουσι τον Χριστον?	15 It is true that some of them are preaching Christ out of malice and rivalry; but there are many as welwhose intentions are good;
16 οι μεν κηρυττουσιν εξ αντιζηλιας τον Χριστον, ουχι εν καθαροτητι, νομιζοντες οτι προσθετουσι θλιψιν εις τα δεσμα μου?	16 some are doing it out of love, knowing that I remain firm in my defence of the gospel.
17 οι δε εξ αγαπης, εξευροντες οτι ειμαι τεταγμενος εις απολογιαν του ευαγγελιου.	17 There are others who are proclaiming Christ out of jealousy, not in sincerity but meaning to add to theweight of my chains.
18 Τι λοιπον πλην κατα παντα τροπον, ειτε επι προφασει ειτε τη αληθεια, ο Χριστος κηρυττεται? και εις τουτο χαιρω αλλα και θελω χαιρει.	18 But what does it matter? Only that in both ways, whether with false motives or true, Christ isproclaimed, and for that I am happy;
19 Διοτι εξευρω οτι τουτο θελει αποβη εις εμε προς σωτηριαν δια της δεησεως σας και δια της βοηθειας, του Πνευματος του Ιησου Χριστου,	19 and I shal go on being happy, too, because I know that this is what wil save me, with your prayers andwith the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;
20 κατα την σταθεραν προσδοκιαν και ελπιδα μου οτι δεν θελω αισχυνθη εις ουδεν, αλλα μετα πασης παρρησιας ως παντοτε και τωρα θελει μεγαλυνθη ο Χριστος εν τω σωματι μου ειτε δια ζωης ειτε δια θανατου.	20 al in accordance with my most confident hope and trust that I shal never have to admit defeat, but withcomplete fearlessness I shall go on, so that now, as always, Christ wil be glorified in my body, whether by mylife or my death.
21 Διοτι εις εμε το ζην ειναι ο Χριστος και το αποθανειν κερδος.	21 Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would be a positive gain.
22 Αλλ' εαν το να ζω εν σαρκι τουτο συμβαλλη εις καρποφοριαν του εργου μου, και τι να εκλεξω δεν γνωριζω.	22 On the other hand again, if to be alive in the body gives me an opportunity for fruitful work, I do notknow which I should choose.
23 Διοτι στενοχωρουμαι υπο των δυο, εχων μεν την επιθυμιαν να αναχωρησω και να ειμαι με τον Χριστον? διοτι ειναι πολυ πλεον καλητερον?	23 I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and to be with Christ, and this is by far the strongerdesire-
24 το να μενω ομως εν τη σαρκι ειναι αναγκαιοτερον δια σας.	24 and yet for your sake to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need.
25 Και τουτο εξευρω εν πεποιθησει οτι θελω μεινει και συμπαραμεινει μετα παντων υμων δια την εις την πιστιν προκοπην σας και χαραν,	25 This much I know for certain, that I shal stay and stand by you al , to encourage your advance andyour joy in the faith,
26 δια να περισσευη δι' εμου το καυχημα σας εις τον Ιησουν Χριστον δια της εμης παλιν παρουσιας προς εσας.	26 so that my return to be among you may increase to overflowing your pride in Jesus Christ on myaccount.
27 Μονον πολιτευεσθε αξιως του ευαγγελιου του Χριστου, δια να ακουσω, ειτε οταν ελθω και σας ιδω ειτε ενω ειμαι απων, την καταστασιν σας, οτι στεκεσθε εις εν πνευμα, συναγωνιζομενοι εν μια ψυχη δια την πιστιν του ευαγγελιου,	27 But you must always behave in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come toyou and see for myself or whether I only hear al about you from a distance, I shall find that you are standing firmand united in spirit, battling, as a team with a single aim, for the faith of the gospel,
28 και μη φοβιζομενοι εις ουδεν απο των εναντιων, το οποιον εις αυτους μεν ειναι ενδειξις απωλειας, εις εσας δε σωτηριας, και τουτο απο Θεου?	28 undismayed by any of your opponents. This will be a clear sign, for them that they are to be lost, andfor you that you are to be saved.
29 διοτι εις εσας εχαρισθη το υπερ Χριστου, ου μονον το να πιστευητε εις αυτον, αλλα και το να πασχητε υπερ αυτου,	29 This comes from God, for you have been granted the privilege for Christ's sake not only of believing inhim but of suffering for him as wel ;
30 εχοντες τον αυτον αγωνα, οποιον ειδετε εν εμοι και τωρα ακουετε εν εμοι.	30 you are fighting the same battle which you saw me fighting for him and which you hear I am fightingstill.
