For a man shall take hold or his brother, one of the house of his father, saying: Thou hast a garment, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand.6 Yes, a man wil catch hold of his brother in their father's house, to say, 'You have a cloak, so you beleader, and rule this heap of ruins.'
In that day he shall answer, saying: I am no healer, and in my house there is no bread, nor clothing: make me not ruler of the people.7 And, that day, the other wil protest, 'I am no healer; in my house there is neither food nor clothing; donot make me leader of the people.'
For Jerusalem is ruined, and Juda is fallen: because their tongue, and their devices are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his majesty.8 For Jerusalem has col apsed and Judah has fallen, because their words and deeds affront Yahweh andinsult his glorious gaze.
The shew of their countenance hath answered them: and they have proclaimed abroad their sin as Sodom, and they have not hid it: woe to their souls, for evils are rendered to them.9 Their complacency bears witness against them, they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not conceal it,al the worse for them, for they have hatched their own downfal .
Say to the just man that it is well, for he shall eat the fruit of his doings.10 Say, 'Blessed the upright, for he will feed on the fruit of his deeds;
Woe to the wicked unto evil: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.11 woe to the wicked, it wil go il with him, for he will be treated as his actions deserve.'
As for my people, their oppressors have stripped them, and women have ruled over them. O my people, they that call thee blessed, the same deceive thee, and destroy the way of thy steps.12 O my people, their oppressors pil age them and extortioners rule over them! O my people, your rulersmislead you and efface the paths you ought to fol ow!
The Lord standeth up to judge, and he standeth to judge the people.13 Yahweh has risen to accuse, is standing to pass judgement on the people.
The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and its princes: for you have devoured the vineyard, and the spoil of the poor is in your house.14 Yahweh is about to try the elders and the princes of his people, 'You are the ones who have ravagedthe vineyard, the spoils of the poor are in your houses.
Why do you consume my people, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord the God of hosts.15 By what right do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor?' says the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth.
And the Lord said: Because the daughters of Sion are haughty, and have walked with stretched out necks, and wanton glances of their eyes, and made a noise as they walked with their feet and moved in a set pace:16 Yahweh says: Because Zion's daughters are proud and walk with heads held high and enticing eyes --with mincing steps they go, jingling the bangles on their feet-
The Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughters of Sion, and the Lord will discover their hair.17 the Lord will give Zion's daughters scabby heads, Yahweh will lay their foreheads bare.
In that day the Lord will take away the ornaments of shoes, end little moons,18 That day the Lord wil take away the ornamental chains, medallions, crescents,

And bodkins, and ornaments of the legs, and tablets, and sweet balls, and earrings,20 diadems, ankle-chains, necklaces, scent bottles, amulets,
And rings, and jewels hanging on the forehead,21 finger-rings, nose-rings,

And looking-glasses, and lawns, and headbands, and fine veils.23 mirrors, linen clothes, turbans and mantillas.
And instead of a sweet smell there shall be stench, and instead of a girdle, a cord, and instead of curled hair, baldness, and instead of a stomacher, haircloth.24 Then, instead of perfume, a stink; instead of belt, a rope, instead of hair elaborately dressed, a shavenscalp, instead of gorgeous clothes, sacking round the waist, and brand marks instead of beauty.
Thy fairest men also shall fall by the sword, and thy valiant ones in battle.25 Your men wil fal by the sword, your warriors in battle,
And her gates shall lament and mourn, and she shall sit desolate on the ground.26 and her gates wil moan and mourn; she wil sit on the ground, deserted.
