1 The wise men will seek out the wisdom of all the ancients, and will be occupied in the prophets.	1 Il en va tout autrement de celui qui s’applique à méditer la Loi du Très-Haut. Il scrute la sagesse de tous les anciens et leurs prophéties absorbent ses loisirs.
2 He will keep the sayings of renowned men, and will enter withal into the subtilties of parables.	2 Il garde en mémoire les propos des hommes célèbres et pénètre les richesses des maximes;
3 He will search out the hidden meanings of proverbs, and will be conversant in the secrets of parables.	3 il recherche le sens caché des proverbes et s’intéresse aux énigmes des paraboles.
4 He shall serve among great men, and: appear before the governor.	4 Il passe au service des grands et on le voit au milieu des chefs. Il voyage dans les pays étrangers et il a l’expérience de ce qui est bon ou mauvais pour les hommes.
5 He shall pass into strange countries: for he shall try good and evil among men.	5 Dès le matin il s’applique à trouver le Seigneur qui l’a créé, il supplie en la présence du Très-Haut; il ouvre la bouche pour prier et il implore pour ses péchés.
6 He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, and he will pray in the sight of the most High.	6 Si le Seigneur Sublime en a décidé ainsi, il le remplira de l’esprit d’intelligence. Alors il fera pleuvoir des paroles de sagesse, et dans sa prière il en rendra grâces au Seigneur.
7 He will open his mouth in prayer, and will make supplication for his sins.	7 Il entrera dans les plans de Dieu et dans la connaissance: il méditera sur les secrets du Seigneur.
8 For if it shall please the great Lord, he will fill him with the spirit of understanding:	8 Il communiquera les enseignements de sa doctrine et mettra sa fierté dans la Loi et l’Alliance du Seigneur.
9 And he will pour forth the words of his wisdom as showers, and in his prayer he will confess to the Lord.	9 Beaucoup de gens vanteront son intelligence, elle ne tombera jamais dans l’oubli; son souvenir ne disparaîtra pas, mais son nom restera vivant de génération en génération.
10 And he shall direct his counsel, and his knowledge, and in his secrets shall he meditate.	10 À l’étranger on reconnaîtra sa sagesse, et l’assemblée du peuple fera son éloge.
11 He shall shew forth the discipline he hath learned, and shall glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.	11 Tant qu’il sera là, son nom passera avant mille autres, et quand il reposera, son nom lui suffira.
12 Many shall praise his wisdom, and it shall never be forgotten.	12 Je veux encore vous faire part de mes réflexions, car j’en suis rempli comme la lune en son plein.
13 The memory of him shall not depart away, and his name shall be in request from generation to generation.	13 Écoutez-moi, mes enfants saints, et vous grandirez comme le laurier-rose au bord d’un cours d’eau.
14 Nations shall declare his wisdom, and the church shall shew forth his praise.	14 Comme l’encens répandez une odeur agréable, faites éclore vos fleurs comme le lys, donnez votre parfum et chantez un cantique. Bénissez Yahvé pour toutes ses œuvres!
15 If he continue, he shall leave a name above a thousand: and if he rest, it shall be to his advantage.	15 Exaltez son nom et dites ses louanges; chantez, jouez de la harpe, acclamez-le en disant:
16 I will yet meditate that I may declare: for I am filled as with a holy transport.	16 Qu’elles sont belles, les œuvres du Seigneur! Et tout ce qu’il décide arrive en temps voulu. Il ne faut donc pas dire: Qu’est ceci? Pourquoi cela? car tout sera utile en son temps.
17 By a voice he saith: Hear me, ye divine offspring, and bud forth as the rose planted by the brooks of waters.	17 À sa parole les eaux s’arrêtèrent et s’élevèrent en un seul lieu; un mot de sa bouche ouvrit les réserves d’eau.
18 Give ye a sweet odour as frankincense.	18 Il suffit qu’il parle, et tout ce qu’il désire s’accomplit, personne ne peut détenir son œuvre de salut.
19 Send forth flowers, as the lily, and yield a smell, and bring forth leaves in grace, and praise with canticles, and bless the Lord in his works.	19 Devant lui sont présentes les œuvres de chacun, et rien n’échappe à ses yeux.
20 Magnify his name, and give glory to him with the voice of your lips, and with the canticles of your mouths, and with harps, and in praising him, you shall say in this manner:	20 Son regard va du début jusqu’à la fin des temps, et rien ne peut le surprendre.
21 All the works of the Lord are exceeding good.	21 Il ne faut donc pas dire: Qu’est ceci? Pourquoi cela? car tout a été fait pour servir.
22 At his word the waters stood as a heap: and at the words of his mouth the receptacles of waters:	22 La bénédiction du Seigneur est comme un fleuve qui déborde; comme un déluge elle a inondé la terre.
23 For at his commandment favour is shewn, and there is no diminishing of his salvation.	23 Mais les païens auront droit à sa colère, comme lorsqu’il fit d’une terre arrosée une étendue de sel.
24 The works of all flesh are before him, and there is nothing hid from his eyes.	24 Ses voies sont droites pour ses fidèles, mais tout y fait trébucher les sans-Loi.
25 He seeth from eternity to eternity, and there is nothing wonderful before him.	25 Dès le début les bonnes choses ont été créées pour ceux qui sont bons, comme les maux pour les pécheurs.
26 There is no saying: What is this, or what is that? for all things shall be sought in their time.	26 Voici les choses les plus nécessaires à la vie humaine: l’eau, le feu, le fer et le sel, et aussi la farine de froment, le lait et le miel, le jus des raisins, l’huile et le vêtement.
27 His blessing hath overflowed like a river.	27 Toutes ces choses sont bénéfiques pour les bons, mais deviennent nuisibles pour les pécheurs.
28 And as a flood hath watered the earth; so shall his wrath inherit the nations, that have not sought after him:	28 Certains vents ont été faits pour punir; le Seigneur dans sa colère en fait ses fléaux. Arrivé le moment de détruire, ils déchaînent leur violence et satisfont la fureur de celui qui les a faits.
29 Even as he turned the waters into a dry land, and the earth was made dry: and his ways were made plain for their journey: so to sinners they are stumblingblocks in his wrath.	29 Feu, grêle, famine et mort: tout cela a été créé pour servir de châtiment.
30 Good things were created for the good from the beginning, so for the wicked, good and evil things.	30 Les dents des bêtes sauvages, les scorpions, les vipères, et l’épée vengeresse qui punit les impies.
31 The principal things necessary for the life of men, are water, fire, and iron, salt, milk, and bread of flour, and honey, and the cluster of the grape, and oil, and clothing.	31 Toutes ces choses se réjouissent de mettre à exécution ses ordres. Elles sont prêtes pour quand ce sera nécessaire, et le moment venu elles ne désobéiront pas à ses ordres.
32 All these things shall be for good to the holy, so to the sinners and the ungodly they shall be turned into evil.	32 Tout cela, j’en avais la conviction dès le début. Je l’ai médité et c’est pourquoi j’ai écrit:
33 There are spirits that are created for vengeance, and in their fury they lay on grievous torments.	33 Toutes les œuvres du Seigneur sont bonnes, il pourvoit à tout quand c’est le moment.
34 In the time of destruction they shall pour out their force: and they shall appease the wrath of him that made them.	34 Il ne faut donc pas dire: Ceci est mauvais, cela est bon! car toute chose prendra sa valeur en son temps.
35 Fire, hail, famine, and death, all these were created for vengeance.	35 Et maintenant chantez à pleine voix et de tout votre cœur: bénissez le Nom du Seigneur!
36 The teeth of beasts, and scorpions, and serpents, and the sword taking vengeance upon the ungodly unto destruction.
37 In his commandments they shall feast, and they shall be ready upon earth when need is, and when their time is come they shall not transgress his word.
38 Therefore from the beginning I was resolved, and I have meditated, and thought on these things and left them in writing.
39 All the works of the Lord are good, and he will furnish every work in due time.
40 It is not to be said: This is worse than that: for all shall be well approved in their time.
41 Now therefore with the whole heart and mouth praise ye him, and bless the name of the Lord.
