Sirach 32

1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 Machen die Leute dich zum Speisemeister, überheb dich nicht, und sei in ihrem Kreis wie einer unter ihnen! Sorge erst für sie, und nachher laß dich nieder;
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 bereite, was sie brauchen, und danach nimm Platz, damit du dich an ihrer Ehrung freuen kannst und Lohn empfängst ob deines feinen Anstands.
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 Ergreif das Wort, du Greis, denn dir geziemt es; doch bescheide deine Weisheit, und verdränge nicht Gesang!
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Verschwende nicht, wo Lieder klingen, kluge Reden; was willst zur Unzeit du den Weisen spielen?
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 Wie eine Perle von Rubin an goldenem Geschmeide ist eines Liedes Weise bei dem Weingelage.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Goldrand an einem Siegel von Smaragd ist Liederschall beim süßen Rebensaft.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Ergreif das Wort, du Jüngling, wenn du mußt, nur wenn man zweimal, dreimal dringend dich ersucht!
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Auch fasse kurz dein Reden ab und meide große Breite, und sei gleich einem Wissenden und dennoch Schweigenden!
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Melde dich inmitten hoher Herrn nicht zum Wort, und streite nicht zum Überdruß mit Greisen!
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Der Blitz strahlt vor dem Hagel auf, und Gunst strahlt auf vor dem Bescheidenen.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Zur festgesetzten Stunde säume nicht, und geh nach Hause, ohne umzuschauen!
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Dort magst du scherzen und den Mut dir kühlen in Gottesfurcht und nicht in Unverstand!
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 Und für das alles preise deinen Schöpfer, der dich so reichlich labt mit seinen Gütern!
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 Wer Gott sucht, der wird Zucht erlangen, und wer an ihn sich hält, erreicht Erhörung.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 Wer Weisung sucht, wird sie erhalten; doch wer als Narr sich aufführt, kommt dadurch zu Fall.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 Wer gottesfürchtig ist, versteht, was Rechtens ist, und läßt aus seiner Seele klugen Rat entspringen.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 Der Mann des Unrechts lehnt Belehrung ab, und wie es ihm von Nutzen ist, verdreht er das Gesetz.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 Der weise Mann verbirgt die Einsicht nicht, der Stolze und der Prahler halten keine Weisung.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Vollbringe keine Sache ohne Überlegung, dann brauchst du nach der Tat dich nicht zu ärgern!
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Auf einem Weg mit Fallen wandle nicht, und strauchle nicht durch Anstoß deiner Füße!
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 Fühl dich vor Räubern auf dem Wege niemals sicher,
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 und nimm dich wohl in acht auf deinen Pfaden!
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 Bei allen deinen Werken nimm dich selbst in acht; denn wer dies tut, beachtet das Gebot.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Die Weisung hält, wer sich in acht nimmt; wer auf den Herrn vertraut, wird nicht zuschanden.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.
