Sirach 32

DOUAI-RHEIMS	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 Fizeram-te rei (do festim)? Não te envaideças com isso. Sê no meio dos outros como qualquer um deles.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Ocupa-te com eles e em seguida senta-te. Não tomes lugar à mesa, senão após cumpridos os teus deveres, 3. assim te regozijarás por causa deles. Receberás a coroa como um gracioso adorno, e ganharás a consideração dos convivas.
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Tu, mais idoso, fala, pois convém
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 que sejas o primeiro a falar, com séria competência. Mas não perturbes a música,
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 nem te alongues em discursos, onde não há quem os ouça. Não te engrandeças sem propósito por causa de tua sabedoria.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Como uma pedra de rubi engastada no ouro, assim é a música no meio de uma refeição regada a vinho.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Como um sinete de esmeraldas engastadas em ouro, assim é um grupo de músicos no meio de uma alegre e moderada libação.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Ouve em silêncio, e tua modéstia provocará a benevolência.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Jovem, fala muito pouco de teus assuntos privados.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Se fores duas vezes interrogado, que tua resposta seja concisa.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Em muitas coisas, porta-te como se as ignorasses; ouve em silêncio e pergunta.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 No meio dos poderosos, não tomes muitas liberdades; não fales muito onde houver anciãos:
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 vê-se o relâmpago antes de se ouvir o estalido, a graça precede o rubor da modéstia. Pelo teu recato serás benquisto.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 Uma vez chegada a hora de se levantar, não te demores; sê o primeiro a correr para casa, onde te regozijarás com os divertimentos.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 Faze o que te aprouver, porém sem pecado e sem orgulho.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 E em tudo isso glorifica o Senhor que te criou, e que te cumula de todos os seus bens.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 Aquele que teme o Senhor aceitará sua doutrina, aqueles que vigiam para procurá-lo serão por ele abençoados.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Aquele que busca a lei, por ela será cumulado. Aquele, porém, que procede com falsidade, nela achará ocasião de pecado.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Aqueles que temem o Senhor terão um juízo reto, e farão brilhar como uma tocha a sua justiça.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 O pecador foge da censura, e encontra precedentes segundo o seu desejo.
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 O homem prudente não perde ocasião alguma para instruir-se, e o estranho ou o orgulhoso não tem nenhum temor;
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 mesmo quando age sozinho e sem conselheiro, ele será castigado pelos seus próprios desígnios.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Meu filho, nada faças sem conselho, e não te arrependerás depois de teres agido.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.	25 Não te embrenhes num caminho de perdição e não tropeçarás nas pedras. Não te metas num caminho escabroso, para não pores diante de ti uma pedra de tropeço.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.	26 Previne-te contra teus filhos, sê prudente em presença de teus familiares.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.	27 Em tudo o que fizeres, age com segurança, pois isso é guardar os mandamentos.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.	28 Aquele que crê em Deus atende ao que ele manda. Aquele que põe sua confiança nele, não será atingido.
