DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 As snow in summer, and rain in harvest, so glory is not seemly for a fool.	1 Come la neve all'estate e come la pioggia alla messe, così lo stolto è indegno della gloria.
2 As a bird flying to other places, and a sparrow going here or there: so a curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man.	2 Come il passero svolazza, come la rondine vola via, così la maledizione senza motivo non ha effetto.
3 A whip for a horse, and a snaffle for an ass, and a rod for the back of fools.	3 Briglia al cavallo, freno all'asino e bastone per il dorso degli stolti.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou be made like him.	4 Non risponder allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, altrimenti rassomigli a lui pure tu.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise.	5 Rispondi allo stolto per la sua stoltezza, perché non si creda di esser saggio.
6 He that sendeth words by a foolish messenger, is lame of feet and drinketh iniquity.	6 Si mutila i piedi, beve la violenza chi invia un messaggio per mezzo di uno stolto.
7 As a lame man hath fair legs in vain: so a parable is unseemly in the mouth of fools.	7 Vacillano le ginocchia dello sciancato e il proverbio sulla bocca degli stolti.
8 As he that casteth a stone into the heap of Mercury: so is he that giveth honour to a fool.	8 Come uno che mette una pietra nella fionda, così è chi dà gloria allo stolto.
9 As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.	9 Una spina cresce nella mano dell'ubriacone: il proverbio nella bocca degli stolti.
10 Judgment determineth causes: and he that putteth a fool to silence, appeaseth anger.	10 Un arciere che ferisce ogni passante è colui che ingaggia uno stolto.
11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.	11 Come un cane ritorna al suo vomito, lo stolto ripete la sua stoltezza.
12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own conceit? there shall be more hope of a fool than of him.	12 Vedi uno che si crede di esser saggio? C'è da sperar più dallo stolto che da lui.
13 The slothful man saith: There is a lion in the way, and a lioness in the roads.	13 Dice il pigro: "C'è una fiera nella strada, un leone è nelle vie!".
14 As the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.	14 La porta gira sul suo cardine e il pigro sul suo letto.
15 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth.	15 Allunga il pigro la sua mano al piatto, ma fa fatica a portarla alla sua bocca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit, than seven men that speak sentences.	16 Il pigro si reputa più saggio di sette che rispondono con senno.
17 As he that taketh a dog by the ears, so is he that passeth by in anger, and meddleth with another man's quarrel.	17 Come chi prende per la coda il can che passa è chi si impiccia di una lite altrui.
18 As he is guilty that shooteth arrows, and lances unto death :	18 Come colui che per fare il pazzo tira giavellotti, frecce e morte,
19 So is the man that hurteth his friend deceitfully: and when he is taken, saith: I did it in jest.	19 così è colui che mente al suo prossimo e dice: "Non mi posso divertire?".
20 When the wood faileth, the fire shall go out: and when the talebearer is taken away, contentions shall cease.	20 Finisce la legna, il fuoco si spegne; non c'è denigratore, la collera si placa.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so an angry man stirreth up strife.	21 Carbone sulle braci e legna sopra il fuoco: è l'uomo rissoso che attizza sempre liti.
22 The words of a talebearer are as it were simple, but they reach to the innermost parts of the belly.	22 Le parole del denigratore son cibi deliziosi che scendono fino al fondo delle viscere.
23 Swelling lips joined with a corrupt heart, are like an earthen vessel adorned with silver dross.	23 Argento con scorie spalmato sulla creta: labbra ardenti e cuore malvagio.
24 An enemy is known by his lips, when in his heart he entertaineth deceit.	24 Chi odia si maschera con le sue labbra, ma cova nel suo intimo l'inganno.
25 When he shall speak low, trust him not: because there are seven mischiefs in his heart.	25 Se aggrazia la sua voce non gli credere: perché ci son sette obbrobri nel suo cuore.
26 He that covereth hatred deceitfully, his malice shall be laid open in the public assembly.	26 Può nascondersi l'odio con la dissimulazione: ma la sua malizia si svelerà nell'assemblea.
27 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him.	27 Chi scava una fossa ci cade e una pietra ricade su chi la rotola.
28 A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin.	28 Una lingua bugiarda odia chi ferisce e una bocca sdolcinata produce la rovina.
