1 Les chefs de famille du clan de Galaad, fils de Makir, fils de Manassé, l’un des clans de Joseph, s’approchèrent et dirent à Moïse et à tous les chefs des familles Israélites:	1 Then the leaders of the families of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the stock of the sons of Joseph, approached and spoke to Moses before the leaders of Israel, and they said:
2 “Yahvé a donné l’ordre à mon seigneur de partager le pays par le sort pour le distribuer entre les Israélites. Mon seigneur a aussi reçu de Yahvé l’ordre de donner l’héritage de Séloféhad, notre frère, à ses filles.	2 “The Lord has instructed you, our ruler, so that you would divide the land by lot to the sons of Israel, and so that you would give to the daughters of Zelophehad, our brother, the possession owed to their father.
3 Mais si elles se marient avec un homme d’une autre tribu Israélite, leur héritage sera retranché de l’héritage de nos pères et s’ajoutera à l’héritage de la tribu dont elles feront désormais partie. Cet héritage sera donc retranché de notre lot.	3 But if men of another tribe receive them as wives, their possession will follow them, and having been transferred to another tribe, there will be a reduction in our inheritance.
4 Quand viendra le Jubilé pour les Israélites, leur héritage sera ajouté à celui de la tribu dont elles font désormais partie et leur héritage sera retranché de celui de la tribu de nos pères.”	4 And so it may be that, when the Jubilee of remission, that is, the fiftieth year, has arrived, the distribution by lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall be transferred to others.”
5 Moïse donna donc cet ordre aux Israélites, selon la volonté de Yahvé. Il dit: “La tribu des fils de Joseph a bien parlé.	5 Moses answered the sons of Israel, and, at the instruction of the Lord, he said: “The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken correctly.
6 Voici ce que Yahvé ordonne à propos des filles de Séloféhad. Elles se marieront avec qui elles voudront, à condition qu’en se mariant elles restent dans une famille de la tribu de leur père.	6 And so, this is the law which has been promulgated by the Lord about the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them marry whomever they may wish, but only among the men of their own tribe,
7 Ainsi l’héritage des Israélites ne passera pas d’une tribu à l’autre. Chaque Israélite restera ainsi lié à l’héritage de la tribu de son père.	7 lest the possession of the sons of Israel become commingled, from tribe to tribe. For all men shall take wives from their own tribe and kinship;
8 “Toute fille qui possède un héritage, dans quelque tribu d’Israël que ce soit, se mariera avec un homme appartenant à la tribu de son père. Ainsi les Israélites conserveront chacun l’héritage de leur père.	8 and all women shall take husbands from their same tribe, so that the inheritance may remain within the families,
9 Aucun héritage ne passera d’une tribu à l’autre; chacune des tribus israélites restera liée à son héritage.”	9 and so that the tribes may not be mingled together, but may remain such as they were separated by the Lord.”
10 Les filles de Séloféhad firent donc comme Yahvé l’avait ordonné à Moïse.	10 And the daughters of Zelophehad acted according to what was ordered.
11 Mala, Tirsa, Hogla, Milka et Noa, les filles de Séloféhad, se marièrent avec des hommes de leur parenté.	11 And Mahlah, and Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noa were wed to the sons of their paternal uncle,
12 Elles se marièrent dans les familles des fils de Manassé, fils de Joseph; ainsi leur héritage resta dans la tribu de la famille de leur père.	12 from the family of Manasseh, who was a son of Joseph. And the possession which had been distributed to them remained in the tribe and family of their father.
13 Voilà les ordonnances et les lois que Yahvé donna par Moïse aux Israélites dans les Steppes-de-Moab, près du Jourdain en face de Jéricho.	13 These are the commandments and judgments which the Lord ordered by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel, in the plains of Moab, above the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
