Iob 11

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Rispose Sofar Naamatite, e disse:	1 And Zophar the Naamathite spoke out and said:
2 Or colui che molto favella, non udirà? Ovvero l'uomo, che sarà pieno di parole, sarà giustificato?	2 Should not the man of many words be answered, or must the garrulous man necessarily be right?
3 A te solo taceranno li uomini? e quando avrai scherniti tutti li altri, da niuno sarai confutato?	3 Shall your babblings keep men silent, and shall you deride and no one give rebuke?
4 Certo tu dicesti: pura è la parola mia, e mondo sono nel cospetto tuo.	4 Shall you say: "My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight"?
5 E Iddio il volesse, ch' elli favellasse teco, e aprisse i labbri suoi a te,	5 But oh, that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
6 acciò ch' elli mostrasse a te le secrete cose della sapienza, e che in molti modi fosse la legge sua qui; e intendessi che molte cose minori abbi da Dio, che non meriti la iniquitade tua.	6 And tell you that the secrets of wisdom are twice as effective: So you might learn that God will make you answer for your guilt.
7 Forse gli andamenti (suoi) di Dio comprenderai, e insino all' Onnipotente perfetto ritornerai?	7 Can you penetrate the designs of God? Dare you vie with the perfection of the Almighty?
8 Più alto è che il cielo; e che farai? più adentro che lo inferno; e donde lo conoscerai?	8 It is higher than the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than the nether world; what can you know?
9 La misura sua è più lunga che la terra, larga più che il mare.	9 It is longer than the earth in measure, and broader than the sea.
10 S'elli sovertisse ogni cosa, ovvero che insieme le raunasse chi (li) contraddirà a lui? (Ovvero chi li potrà dire: perchè fai tu così?)	10 If he seize and imprison or call to judgment, who then can say him nay?
11 In verità elli conosce la vanitade delli uomini; e vedendo la iniquitade, or non la considera?	11 For he knows the worthlessness of men and sees iniquity; will he then ignore it?
12 L'uomo vano in superbia si dirizza; e sì come puledro dell' asino, così pensa essere nato libero.	12 Will empty man then gain understanding, and the wild jackass be made docile?
13 Ma tu fermasti lo cuore tuo, e spandesti a lui le tue mani.	13 If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,
14 Se la iniquitade, che è nelle tue mani, tu torrae da te, e non starae nel tabernacolo tuo la tua ingiustizia;	14 If you remove all iniquity from your conduct, and let not injustice dwell in your tent,
15 allora potrai levare la faccia tua senza macchia, e sarai stabile, e non temerai.	15 Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.
16 E di ciascuna miseria ti dimenticherai; e sì come dell' acque che trapassorono, non ti ricorderai.	16 For then you shall forget your misery, or recall it like waters that have ebbed away.
17 E sì come lo splendore del mezzodì si leverà a te nel vespro; e quando penserai te essere consumato, risplenderai sì come la stella Diana.	17 Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become as the morning,
18 E avrai proposto a te la speranza, e sepolto sicuro dormirai.	18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; you shall look round you and lie down in safety,
19 Riposera'ti, e non sarà chi ti spaventi; e pregheranno la faccia tua molti.	19 and you shall take your rest with none to disturb. Many shall entreat your favor,
20 E li occhii degli maligni verranno meno, e lo fuggire perirae da loro, e la speranza loro (ad) abbominazione dell' anima.	20 but the wicked, looking on, shall be consumed with envy. Escape shall be cut off from them, they shall wait to expire.
