BIBBIA TINTORI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Chi tocca la pece ne resterà imbrattato, e chi avrà relazioni col superbo ne prenderà la superbia.	1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.
2 Si mette un peso addosso chi fa in società con uno da più di lui. Non ti far socio di uno più ricco di te.	2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.
3 Come potranno star insieme il paiolo e la pentola? Appena si urtano, questa andrà in bricioli.	3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.
4 Il ricco, fatti dei torti, fremerà; il povero, maltrattato, dovrà stare zitto.	4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.
5 Se gli dài, si servirà di te; se non hai da dare, ti abbandonerà.	5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.
6 Se hai, vivrà con te, e ti spoglierà, senza aver di te compassione alcuna.	6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.
7 Se tu gli sei necessario, t'ingannerà, con sorrisi ti darà delle speranze: ti racconterà belle cose, e ti dirà: « Di che hai bisogno? »	7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?
8 e ti confonderà coi suoi desinari, fino a tanto che in due o tre volte, non ti abbia rifinito, e alla fine si burlerà di te, e poi, vedendoti, passerà oltre e scoterà la testa alle tue spalle.	8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.
9 Umiliati davanti a Dio e aspetta la sua mano.	9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.
10 Guarda che, sedotto, non ti umilii stoltamente.	10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.
11 Guardati dall'essere umile nella tua sapienza, affinchè umiliato, tu non sia sedotto sino alla stoltezza.	11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.
12 Chiamato da un potente, tirati indietro, per questo appunto egli ti chiamerà e richiamerà.	12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.
13 Non essere importuno, per non essere cacciato via, e non andar tanto lontano, per non essere dimenticato.	13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.
14 Non ritenere di poter parlare da uguale con lui; non credere alle molte sue parole, perchè con molti discorsi ti metterà alla prova, e, sorridendo, t'interrogherà per sapere i tuoi segreti.	14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.
15 Il suo animo crudele conserverà le tue parole, e non ti risparmierà i maltrattamenti e la prigione.	15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.
16 Stai in guardia, e molto attento a ciò che ti senti dire, perchè cammini sulla tua rovina.	16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.
17 Sentendo queste cose, guardale come in sogno, e stai sveglio.	17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.
18 Per tutta la tua vita ama Dio, e invoca lo per la tua salvezza.	18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.
19 Ogni animale ama il suo simile, così ogni uomo il suo prossimo.	19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.
20 Ogni vivente s'unirà coi suoi simili, così ogni uomo s'associerà col suo simile.	20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.
21 Se il lume potrà fare un giorno società coll'agnello, così il peccatore col giusto.	21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.
22 Qual relazione fra un uomo santo e un cane? Qual unione fra il ricco e il povero?	22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?
23 Preda del leone è l'asino salvatico nel deserto, e pastura dei ricchi sono i poveri.	23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.
24 E come il superbo ha in abominio l'umiltà, cosi il ricco ha in esecrazione il povero.	24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.
25 Il ricco che vacilla è sostenuto dai suoi amici, ma il povero, caduto che sia, vien cacciato anche dai familiari.	25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.
26 Ii ricco che ha sbagliato ha molti sostenitori, e, se parla con arroganza, lo giustificano.	26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.
27 Ma il povero, se sbaglia, è ripreso acerbamente; se parla sensatamente, non se ne tien conto.	27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 Parla il ricco, e tutti stan cheti, e innalzano fino alle nuvole le sue parole;	28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 parla il povero, e dicono: « Chi è costui? » e se inciampa lo getteranno per terra.	29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 Buone son le ricchezze per chi non ha peccato sulla coscienza, e pessima è la povertà nella bocca dell'empio.	30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 Il cuore dell'uomo ne cangia la faccia, sia in bene, sia in male.	31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 Il buon viso, se gno di buon cuore, lo troverai difficilmente e con pena.	32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
