Proverbi 30

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Parole di colui che aduna, del figlio di colui che spande verità. Visione raccontata da uno col quale è Dio, e che, confortato dalla presenza di Dio in lui, dice:	1 The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh, of Massa. Prophecy of this man for Ithiel, for Ithiel and for Ucal.
2 « Io sono il più ignorante tra gli uomini, e la sapienza umana è lungi da me.	2 I am myself the stupidest of people, bereft of human intel igence,
3 Io non ho imparato la sapienza, io non conosco la scienza dei santi.	3 I have not learnt wisdom, and I lack the knowledge of the holy ones.
4 Chi è salito al cielo e ne è poi disceso? Chi chiuse nelle sue mani il vento? Chi ha ristrette le acque nella sua veste? Chi ha stabiliti tutti i confini della terra? Qual è il suo nome? Qual è il nome del suo figliolo? Lo sai?	4 Who has mounted to the heavens, then come down again? Who has gathered the wind in the clasp ofhis hand? Who has wrapped the waters in his cloak? Who has set al the ends of the earth firm? What is hisname? What is his child's name? Do you know?
5 Ogni parola di Dio è purificata col fuoco: Egli è uno scudo per quelli che sperano in lui.	5 Every word of God is unal oyed, a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Non aggiunger nulla alle sue parole, per non esser ripreso e sbugiardato.	6 To his words make no addition, lest he reprove you and account you a liar.
7 Due cose ti ho chieste, non me le negare prima che io muoia:	7 Two things I beg of you, do not grudge me them before I die:
8 tien lungi da me la vanità e le parole di menzogna, non mi dare nè povertà, nè ricchezze, ma concedimi soltanto il necessario al mio sostentamento;	8 keep falsehood and lies far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches, grant me only my share offood,
9 affìnchè, saziato, non sia tentato a rinnegarti e dica: Chi è il Signore? ovvero, spinto dalla necessità, non rubi e non bestemmi il nome del mio Dio.	9 for fear that, surrounded by plenty, I should fall away and say, 'Yahweh-who is Yahweh?' or else, in destitution, take to stealing and profane the name of my God.
10 Non accusare il servo presso il suo padrone, chè forse non ti maledica e tu vada in perdizione.	10 Do not blacken a slave's name to his master, lest he curse you, and you suffer for it.
11 C'è una genìa di uomini che maledice il padre e non benedice la madre.	11 There is a breed of person that curses his father and does not bless his mother;
12 C'è una genìa d'uomini che si credon puri, eppure non son lavati dalle loro immondezze.	12 a breed that, laying claim to purity, has not yet been cleansed of its filth;
13 V'è una genìa d'uomini dagli occhi alteri e dalle ciglia superbamente alzate.	13 a breed haughty of eye, with disdain in every glance;
14 V'è una genìa d'uomini che invece di denti ha spade, che maciulla coi suoi molari, per divorare i poveri della terra e i miserabili tra gli uomini.	14 a breed with swords for teeth, with knives for jaws, devouring the oppressed from the earth and theneedy from the land.
15 La mignatta ha due figliole che dicono: Dammi, dammi. Tre cose sono insaziabili e la quarta non dice mai basta:	15 The leech has two daughters: 'Give! Give!' There are three insatiable things, four, indeed, that neversay, 'Enough!'
16 L'inferno, la bocca della matrice, la terra, che non si sazia di acque: il fuoco poi non dice mai: basta.	16 Sheol, the barren womb, earth which can never have its fil of water, fire which never says, 'Enough!'
17 L'occhio che schernisce il padre e disprezza il parto di sua madre, lo cavino i corvi del torrente, lo divorino i figli dell'aquila.	17 The eye which looks jeeringly on a father, and scorns the obedience due to a mother, wil be peckedout by the ravens of the val ey, and eaten by the vultures.
18 Tre cose mi restan difficili, e la quarta la ignoro affatto:	18 There are three things beyond my comprehension, four, indeed, that I do not understand:
19 la traccia dell'aquila nell'aria, la traccia del serpente sulla pietra, la traccia d'una nave in mezzo al mare, e la traccia dell'uomo nell'adolescenza.	19 the way of an eagle through the skies, the way of a snake over the rock, the way of a ship in mid-ocean, the way of a man with a girl.
20 Tal è della donna adultera: essa mangia, si ripulisce la bocca, e dice: Non ho fatto alcun malo.	20 This is how an adulteress behaves: she eats, then wipes her mouth and says, 'I have done nothingwrong!'
21 Per tre cose è messa sottosopra la terra, e la quarta non la può sopportare:	21 There are three things at which the earth trembles, four, indeed, which it cannot endure:
22 per lo schiavo che arriva a regnare, per lo stolto pieno di cibo,	22 a slave become king, a brute gorged with food,
23 per una donna odiosa che trova marito, e per una serva che diventa erede della padrona.	23 a hateful woman wed at last, a servant girl inheriting from her mistress.
24 Vi sono quattro cose piccolissime sulla terra, e superano in sapienza i sapienti:	24 There are four creatures little on the earth, though they are wisest of the wise:
25 le formiche, popolo debole, che al tempo della messe prepara il suo vitto;	25 ants, a race with no strength, yet in the summer they make sure of their food;
26 le piccole lepri, razza paurosa, che fanno la loro tana nelle rocce;	26 the coneys, a race without defences, yet they make their home in the rocks;
27 le cavallette non hanno re, eppure si muovon tutte divise in schiere;	27 locusts, which have no king, yet they al march in good order;
28 la lucertola, che si regge sulle mani, e abita nei palazzi dei re.	28 lizards, which you can catch in your hand, yet they frequent the palaces of kings.
29 Tre cose han bella andatura, e la quarta va magnificamente:	29 There are three things of stately tread, four, indeed, of stately walk:
30 il leone, il più forte degli animali, non ha paura, chiunque incontri;	30 the lion, bravest of beasts, he wil draw back from nothing;
31 il gallo, dai fianchi serrati, il capro, e il re, a cui nessuno resiste.	31 a vigorous cock, a he-goat, and the king when he harangues his people.
32 Vi è chi è stato riconosciuto per stolto, innalzato a posto sublime: se avesse capito qualche cosa, si sarebbe messa la mano alla bocca.	32 If you have been foolish enough to fly into a passion and now have second thoughts, lay your handon your lips.
33 Chi preme con forza le mammelle per trarne il latte, ne fa uscire del burro, chi si soffia troppo forte il naso, ne fa uscire il sangue, e chi provoca sdegni produce discordie».	33 For by churning the milk you produce butter, by wringing the nose you produce blood, and bywhipping up anger you produce strife.
