Epístola de São Paulo aos Romanos 8

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 De agora em diante, pois, já não há nenhuma condenação para aqueles que estão em Jesus Cristo.	1 Thus, condemnation wil never come to those who are in Christ Jesus,
2 A lei do Espírito de Vida me libertou, em Jesus Cristo, da lei do pecado e da morte.	2 because the law of the Spirit which gives life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin anddeath.
3 O que era impossível à lei, visto que a carne a tornava impotente, Deus o fez. Enviando, por causa do pecado, o seu próprio Filho numa carne semelhante à do pecado, condenou o pecado na carne,	3 What the Law could not do because of the weakness of human nature, God did, sending his own Sonin the same human nature as any sinner to be a sacrifice for sin, and condemning sin in that human nature.
4 a fim de que a justiça, prescrita pela lei, fosse realizada em nós, que vivemos não segundo a carne, mas segundo o espírito.	4 This was so that the Law's requirements might be fully satisfied in us as we direct our lives not by ournatural inclinations but by the Spirit.
5 Os que vivem segundo a carne gostam do que é carnal; os que vivem segundo o espírito apreciam as coisas que são do espírito.	5 Those who are living by their natural inclinations have their minds on the things human nature desires;those who live in the Spirit have their minds on spiritual things.
6 Ora, a aspiração da carne é a morte, enquanto a aspiração do espírito é a vida e a paz.	6 And human nature has nothing to look forward to but death, while the Spirit looks forward to life andpeace,
7 Porque o desejo da carne é hostil a Deus, pois a carne não se submete à lei de Deus, e nem o pode.	7 because the outlook of disordered human nature is opposed to God, since it does not submit to God'sLaw, and indeed it cannot,
8 Os que vivem segundo a carne não podem agradar a Deus.	8 and those who live by their natural inclinations can never be pleasing to God.
9 Vós, porém, não viveis segundo a carne, mas segundo o Espírito, se realmente o espírito de Deus habita em vós. Se alguém não possui o Espírito de Cristo, este não é dele.	9 You, however, live not by your natural inclinations, but by the Spirit, since the Spirit of God has made ahome in you. Indeed, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
10 Ora, se Cristo está em vós, o corpo, em verdade, está morto pelo pecado, mas o Espírito vive pela justificação.	10 But when Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin but the spirit is alive because you havebeen justified;
11 Se o Espírito daquele que ressuscitou Jesus dos mortos habita em vós, ele, que ressuscitou Jesus Cristo dos mortos, também dará a vida aos vossos corpos mortais, pelo seu Espírito que habita em vós.	11 and if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead has made his home in you, then he whoraised Christ Jesus from the dead wil give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you.
12 Portanto, irmãos, não somos devedores da carne, para que vivamos segundo a carne.	12 So then, my brothers, we have no obligation to human nature to be dominated by it.
13 De fato, se viverdes segundo a carne, haveis de morrer; mas, se pelo Espírito mortificardes as obras da carne, vivereis,	13 If you do live in that way, you are doomed to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the habitsoriginating in the body, you will have life.
14 pois todos os que são conduzidos pelo Espírito de Deus são filhos de Deus.	14 Al who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God;
15 Porquanto não recebestes um espírito de escravidão para viverdes ainda no temor, mas recebestes o espírito de adoção pelo qual clamamos: Aba! Pai!	15 for what you received was not the spirit of slavery to bring you back into fear; you received the Spiritof adoption, enabling us to cry out, 'Abba, Father!'
16 O Espírito mesmo dá testemunho ao nosso espírito de que somos filhos de Deus.	16 The Spirit himself joins with our spirit to bear witness that we are children of God.
17 E, se filhos, também herdeiros, herdeiros de Deus e co-herdeiros de Cristo, contanto que soframos com ele, para que também com ele sejamos glorificados.	17 And if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, provided that weshare his suffering, so as to share his glory.
18 Tenho para mim que os sofrimentos da presente vida não têm proporção alguma com a glória futura que nos deve ser manifestada.	18 In my estimation, al that we suffer in the present time is nothing in comparison with the glory which isdestined to be disclosed for us,
19 Por isso, a criação aguarda ansiosamente a manifestação dos filhos de Deus.	19 for the whole creation is waiting with eagerness for the children of God to be revealed.
20 Pois a criação foi sujeita à vaidade {não voluntariamente, mas por vontade daquele que a sujeitou},	20 It was not for its own purposes that creation had frustration imposed on it, but for the purposes of himwho imposed it-
21 todavia com a esperança de ser também ela libertada do cativeiro da corrupção, para participar da gloriosa liberdade dos filhos de Deus.	21 with the intention that the whole creation itself might be freed from its slavery to corruption andbrought into the same glorious freedom as the children of God.
22 Pois sabemos que toda a criação geme e sofre como que dores de parto até o presente dia.	22 We are wel aware that the whole creation, until this time, has been groaning in labour pains.
23 Não só ela, mas também nós, que temos as primícias do Espírito, gememos em nós mesmos, aguardando a adoção, a redenção do nosso corpo.	23 And not only that: we too, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we are groaning insideourselves, waiting with eagerness for our bodies to be set free.
24 Porque pela esperança é que fomos salvos. Ora, ver o objeto da esperança já não é esperança; porque o que alguém vê, como é que ainda o espera?	24 In hope, we already have salvation; in hope, not visibly present, or we should not be hoping -- nobodygoes on hoping for something which is already visible.
25 Nós que esperamos o que não vemos, é em paciência que o aguardamos.	25 But having this hope for what we cannot yet see, we are able to wait for it with perseveringconfidence.
26 Outrossim, o Espírito vem em auxílio à nossa fraqueza; porque não sabemos o que devemos pedir, nem orar como convém, mas o Espírito mesmo intercede por nós com gemidos inefáveis.	26 And as wel as this, the Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness, for, when we do not know how topray properly, then the Spirit personal y makes our petitions for us in groans that cannot be put into words;
27 E aquele que perscruta os corações sabe o que deseja o Espírito, o qual intercede pelos santos, segundo Deus.	27 and he who can see into al hearts knows what the Spirit means because the prayers that the Spiritmakes for God's holy people are always in accordance with the mind of God.
28 Aliás, sabemos que todas as coisas concorrem para o bem daqueles que amam a Deus, daqueles que são os eleitos, segundo os seus desígnios.	28 We are wel aware that God works with those who love him, those who have been cal ed inaccordance with his purpose, and turns everything to their good.
29 Os que ele distinguiu de antemão, também os predestinou para serem conformes à imagem de seu Filho, a fim de que este seja o primogênito entre uma multidão de irmãos.	29 He decided beforehand who were the ones destined to be moulded to the pattern of his Son, so thathe should be the eldest of many brothers;
30 E aos que predestinou, também os chamou; e aos que chamou, também os justificou; e aos que justificou, também os glorificou.	30 it was those so destined that he cal ed; those that he cal ed, he justified, and those that he hasjustified he has brought into glory.
31 Que diremos depois disso? Se Deus é por nós, quem será contra nós?	31 After saying this, what can we add? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 Aquele que não poupou seu próprio Filho, mas que por todos nós o entregou, como não nos dará também com ele todas as coisas?	32 Since he did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for the sake of all of us, then can we not expectthat with him he wil freely give us al his gifts?
33 Quem poderia acusar os escolhidos de Deus? É Deus quem os justifica.	33 Who can bring any accusation against those that God has chosen? When God grants saving justice
34 Quem os condenará? Cristo Jesus, que morreu, ou melhor, que ressuscitou, que está à mão direita de Deus, é quem intercede por nós!	34 who can condemn? Are we not sure that it is Christ Jesus, who died -- yes and more, who was raised from the dead and is at God's right hand -- and who is adding his plea for us?
35 Quem nos separará do amor de Cristo? A tribulação? A angústia? A perseguição? A fome? A nudez? O perigo? A espada?	35 Can anything cut us off from the love of Christ -- can hardships or distress, or persecution, or lack offood and clothing, or threats or violence;
36 Realmente, está escrito: Por amor de ti somos entregues à morte o dia inteiro; somos tratados como gado destinado ao matadouro {Sl 43,23}.	36 as scripture says: For your sake we are being massacred al day long, treated as sheep to beslaughtered?
37 Mas, em todas essas coisas, somos mais que vencedores pela virtude daquele que nos amou.	37 No; we come through al these things triumphantly victorious, by the power of him who loved us.
38 Pois estou persuadido de que nem a morte, nem a vida, nem os anjos, nem os principados, nem o presente, nem o futuro, nem as potestades,	38 For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nothing already inexistence and nothing stil to come, nor any power,
39 nem as alturas, nem os abismos, nem outra qualquer criatura nos poderá apartar do amor que Deus nos testemunha em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.	39 nor the heights nor the depths, nor any created thing whatever, wil be able to come between us andthe love of God, known to us in Christ Jesus our Lord.
