1 Then all Israel gathered about David in Hebron, and they said: "Surely, we are of the same bone and flesh as you.	1 Tutto Israele si radunò presso Davide a Ebron e gli dissero: "Ecco, noi siamo le tue ossa e la tua carne.
2 Even formerly, when Saul was still the king, it was you who led Israel in all its battles. And now the LORD, your God, has said to you, 'You shall shepherd my people Israel and be ruler over them.'"	2 Già nel passato, quando c'era re Saul, tu guidavi Israele nei suoi movimenti. Inoltre il Signore, tuo Dio, ti ha promesso: "Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele, e sarai principe sul mio popolo Israele".
3 Then all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and there David made a covenant with them in the presence of the LORD; and they anointed him king over Israel, in accordance with the word of the LORD as revealed through Samuel.	3 Tutti gli anziani d'Israele si radunarono presso il re a Ebron e Davide concluse con essi un patto in Ebron al cospetto del Signore. Allora unsero Davide come re su Israele, secondo la parola del Signore pronunciata per mezzo di Samuele.
4 Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, that is, Jebus, where the natives of the land were called Jebusites.	4 Davide con tutto Israele marciò contro Gerusalemme, cioè Gebus; ivi risiedevano i Gebusei, abitanti della regione.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not enter here." David nevertheless captured the fortress of Zion, which is the City of David.	5 Gli abitanti di Gebus dissero a Davide: "Non entrerai qui". Ma Davide espugnò la fortezza di Sion, che è la Città di Davide.
6 David said, "Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be made the chief commander." Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was the first to go up; and so he became chief.	6 Egli aveva detto: "Chiunque colpirà per primo i Gebusei, diventerà capo e principe". Salì per primo Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, che divenne così capo.
7 David took up his residence in the fortress, which thenceforth was called the City of David.	7 Davide si stabilì nella fortezza, che per questo fu chiamata Città di Davide.
8 He rebuilt the city on all sides, from the Millo all the way around, while Joab restored the rest of the city.	8 Riedificò poi la città tutt'intorno dal Millo fino alla periferia, mentre Ioab restaurò il resto della città;
9 David became more and more powerful, for the LORD of hosts was with him.	9 Davide diventava sempre più potente e il Signore degli eserciti era con lui.
10 These were David's chief warriors who, together with all Israel, supported him in his reign in order to make him true king, even as the LORD had commanded concerning Israel.	10 Questi sono i capi dei prodi di Davide, che insieme a lui divennero potenti nel suo regno e insieme con tutto Israele lo avevano fatto re secondo la parola di Dio nei riguardi d'Israele.
11 Here is the list of David's warriors: Ishbaal, the son of Hachamoni, chief of the Three. He brandished his spear against three hundred, whom he slew in a single encounter.	11 Ecco l'elenco dei prodi di Davide: Iasobeam figlio di un cacmonita, capo dei Tre; è colui che brandì la sua lancia contro trecento vittime in una sola volta.
12 Next to him Eleazar, the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the Three warriors.	12 Dopo di lui Eleazaro, figlio di Dodo, l'achochita; era uno dei tre prodi.
13 He was with David at Pas-dammim, where the Philistines had massed for battle. The plow-land was fully planted with barley, but its defenders were retreating before the Philistines.	13 Si trovò insieme a Davide a Pas-Dammim, dove i Filistei si erano radunati per far guerra e dove c'era un appezzamento di terra pieno di orzo. 14 He made a stand on the sown ground, kept it safe, and cut down the Philistines. Thus the LORD brought about a great victory.	14 egli si piantò in mezzo a quel tratto di campo e lo difese, colpendo i Filistei. Così il Signore operò una grande vittoria.
15 Three of the Thirty chiefs went down to the rock, to David, who was in the cave of Adullam while the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.	15 Tre dei trenta capi scesero sulla roccia presso Davide, nella grotta di Adullàm, mentre il campo dei Filistei si era stabilito nella valle di Rèfaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold, and a Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem.	16 Davide si trovava allora nella fortezza, mentre un presidio dei Filistei si trovava a Betlemme.
17 David expressed a desire: "Oh, that someone would give me a drink from the cistern that is by the gate at Bethlehem!"	17 Davide ebbe un desiderio che formulò così: "Chi mi darà da bere acqua della cisterna di Betlemme, che si trova presso la porta?".
18 Thereupon the Three broke through the encampment of the Philistines, drew water from the cistern by the gate at Bethlehem, and carried it back to David. But David refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out as a libation to the LORD,	18 I Tre, allora, fatta irruzione nel campo dei Filistei, attinsero l'acqua dalla cisterna di Betlemme, che si trova presso la porta, la portarono e la presentarono a Davide, che però non volle berla e ne fece una libazione al Signore.
19 saying, "God forbid that I should do such a thing! Could I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?" For at the risk of their lives they brought it; and so he refused to drink it. Such deeds as these the Three warriors performed.	19 Egli disse: "Mi guardi il mio Dio dal fare una cosa simile! Posso forse bere il sangue di quegli uomini insieme col prezzo della loro vita? Difatti l'hanno portata a prezzo della loro vita". Per questo non volle berla. Ecco ciò che compirono i tre prodi.
20 Abishai, the brother of Joab. He was the chief of the Thirty; he brandished his spear against three hundred, and slew them. Thus he had a reputation like that of the Three.	20 Abisài, fratello di Ioab, era capo dei Trenta; egli brandì la sua lancia contro trecento vittime facendosi un nome fra i Trenta.
21 He was twice as famous as any of the Thirty and became their commander, but he did not attain to the Three.	21 Fu doppiamente stimato fra i trenta e fu loro capo, ma non raggiunse i tre eroi.
22 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, a valiant man of mighty deeds, from Kabzeel. He killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab, and also, on a snowy day, he went down and killed the lion in the cistern.	22 Benaià, da Kazbeèl, figlio di Ioiadà, uomo valoroso, ricco di prodezze, uccise i due figli di Arièl di Moab; inoltre egli in un giorno di neve discese in una cisterna ed ivi abbatté un leone.
23 He likewise slew the Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. The Egyptian carried a spear that was like a weaver's heddle-bar, but he came against him with a staff, wrested the spear from the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear.	23 Fu lui che uccise anche un egiziano dalla statura alta cinque cubiti, che teneva in mano una lancia come un subbio da tessitore; egli scese contro di lui con un bastone, strappò la lancia dalla mano dell'egiziano e lo uccise con quella sua stessa lancia.
24 Such deeds as these of Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, gave him a reputation like that of the Three.	24 Ecco ciò che compì Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà; egli si fece un nome fra i trenta prodi.
25 He was more famous than any of the Thirty, but he did not attain to the Three. David put him in charge of his bodyguard.	25 Fu onorato più che i Trenta, ma non raggiunse i tre eroi. Davide lo costituì capo della sua guardia di corpo.
26 Also these warriors: Asahel, the brother of Joab; Elhanan, son of Dodo, from Bethlehem;	26 Ecco i prodi valorosi: Asael fratello di Ioab, Elcanan figlio di Dodo, di Betlemme,
