1 Voici ceux qui rejoignirent David à Ciqlag alors qu'il était encore retenu loin de Saül fils deQish; c'étaient des preux, des combattants à la guerre,	1 The following men came to David in Ziklag while he was still under banishment from Saul, son of Kish; they, too, were among the warriors who helped him in his battles.
2 qui pouvaient tirer à l'arc de la main droite et de la gauche, en utilisant pierres et flèches. Desfrères de Saül le Benjaminite:	2 They were archers who could use either the right or the left hand, both in slinging stones and in shooting arrows with the bow. They were some of Saul's kinsmen, from Benjamin.

9 Des Gadites firent sécession pour rejoindre David dans son refuge du désert. C'étaient despreux vaillants, des hommes de guerre prêts à combattre, sachant manier le bouclier et la lance. Ils faisaientfigure de lions; par l'agilité, ils ressemblaient aux gazelles sur les montagnes.	9 Some of the Gadites also went over to David when he was at the stronghold in the wilderness. They were valiant warriors, experienced soldiers equipped with shield and spear, who bore themselves like lions, and were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains.
10 Ezer était le chef, Obadya le second, Eliab le troisième,	10 Ezer was their chief, Obadiah was second, Eliab third,
11 Mashmanna le quatrième, Yirmeya le cinquième,	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 Attaï le sixième, Eliel le septième,	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 Yohanân le huitième, Elzabad le neuvième,	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 Yirmeyahu le dixième, Makbannaï le onzième.	14 Jeremiah tenth, and Machbannai eleventh.
15 Tels étaient les fils de Gad, chefs de corps; un commandait à cent s'il était petit, à mille s'ilétait grand.	15 These Gadites were army commanders, the lesser placed over hundreds and the greater over thousands.
16 Ce sont eux qui passèrent le Jourdain, au premier mois, tandis qu'il coule partout à pleinsbords, et qui mirent en fuite les riverains tant à l'orient qu'à l'occident.	16 It was they who crossed over the Jordan when it was overflowing both its banks in the first month, and dispersed all who were in the valleys to the east and to the west.
17 Quelques Benjaminites et Judéens s'en vinrent aussi trouver David en son refuge.	17 Some Benjaminites and Judahites also came to David at the stronghold.
18 David s'avança au-devant d'eux, prit la parole et leur dit: "Si c'est en amis que vous venez àmoi pour me prêter main-forte, je suis disposé à m'unir à vous, mais si c'est pour me tromper au profit de mesennemis alors que mes mains n'ont fait aucun tort, que le Dieu de nos pères le voie et fasse justice!"	18 David went out to meet them and addressed them in these words: "If you come peacefully, to help me, I am of a mind to have you join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies though my hands have done no wrong, may the God of our fathers see and punish you."
19 L'Esprit revêtit alors Amasaï, chef des Trente: "Va, David! La paix soit avec toi, fils deJessé, paix à toi, paix à qui t'aide, car ton aide, c'est ton Dieu." David les accueillit et les mit parmi les chefs detroupe.	19 Then spirit enveloped Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, who spoke: "We are yours, O David, we are with you, O son of Jesse. Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you; your God it is who helps you." So David received them and placed them among the leaders of his troops.
20 Quelques Manassites se rendirent à David alors qu'il venait lutter avec les Philistins contreSaül. Mais ils ne leur prêtèrent pas main-forte car, s'étant consultés, les princes des Philistins renvoyèrent Daviden disant: "Il irait se rendre à son seigneur Saül au prix de nos têtes!"	20 Men from Manasseh also deserted to David when he came with the Philistines to battle against Saul. However, he did not help the Philistines, for their lords took counsel and sent him home, saying, "At the cost of our heads he will desert to his master Saul."
21 Il partait donc pour Ciqlag quand quelques Manassites se rendirent à lui: Adnah, Yozabad,Yediaël, Mikaël, Yozabad, Elihu, Cilletaï, chefs des milliers de Manassé.	21 As he was returning to Ziklag, therefore, these deserted to him from Manasseh: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands of Manasseh.
22 Ce fut un renfort pour David et sa troupe, car ils étaient tous de vaillants preux et devinrentofficiers dans l'armée.	22 They helped David by taking charge of his troops, for they were all warriors and became commanders of his army.
23 Jour après jour, en effet, David recevait des renforts, si bien que son camp devint un campgigantesque.	23 And from day to day men kept coming to David's help until there was a vast encampment, like an encampment of angels.
24 Voici le nombre des guerriers équipés pour la guerre qui rejoignirent David à Hébron pourlui transférer la royauté de Saül selon l'ordre de Yahvé:	24 This is the muster of the detachments of armed troops that came to David at Hebron to transfer to him Saul's kingdom, as the LORD had ordained.
25 Fils de Juda portant le bouclier et la lance: 6.800 guerriers équipés pour la guerre;	25 Judahites bearing shields and spears: six thousand eight hundred armed troops.
26 des fils de Siméon, 7.100 preux vaillants à la guerre;	26 Of the Simeonites, warriors fit for battle: seven thousand one hundred.
27 des fils de Lévi, 4.600,	27 Of the Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 ainsi que Yehoyada, commandant les Aaronides avec 3.700 de ces derniers,	28 along with Jehoiada, leader of the line of Aaron, with another three thousand seven hundred,
29 Sadoq, jeune preux vaillant, et 22 officiers de sa famille;	29 and Zadok, a young warrior, with twenty-two princes of his father's house.
30 des fils de Benjamin, 3.000 frères de Saül, la majorité d'entre eux demeurant jusqu'alors auservice de la maison de Saül;	30 Of the Benjaminites, the brethren of Saul: three thousand--until this time, most of them had held their allegiance to the house of Saul.
31 des fils d'Ephraïm, 20.800 preux vaillants, hommes illustres de leur famille;	31 Of the Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred warriors, men renowned in their ancestral houses.
32 de la demi-tribu de Manassé, 18.000 hommes nominativement désignés pour allerproclamer David roi;	32 Of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand, designated by name to come and make David king.
33 des fils d'Issachar, sachant discerner les moments où Israël devait agir et la manière de lefaire, 200 chefs et tous leurs frères à leurs ordres;	33 Of the Issacharites, their chiefs who were endowed with an understanding of the times and who knew what Israel had to do: two hundred chiefs, together with all their brethren under their command.
34 de Zabulon, 50.000 hommes aptes au service militaire, en ordre de combat, avec toutessortes d'armes, et prêts à prêter main-forte d'un coeur résolu;	34 From Zebulun, men fit for military service, set in battle array with every kind of weapon for war: fifty thousand men rallying with a single purpose.
35 de Nephtali, mille officiers et avec eux 37.000 hommes munis du bouclier et de la lance;	35 From Naphtali: one thousand captains, and with them, armed with shield and lance, thirty-seven thousand men.
36 des Danites, 28.600 hommes en ordre de combat;	36 Of the Danites, set in battle array: twenty-eight thousand six hundred.
37 d'Asher, 40.000 hommes partant en guerre en ordre de combat;	37 From Asher, fit for military service and set in battle array: forty thousand.
38 de Transjordanie, 120.000 hommes de Ruben, de Gad, de la demi-tribu de Manassé, avectoutes sortes d'armes de guerre.	38 From the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, men equipped with every kind of weapon of war: one hundred and twenty thousand.
39 Tous ces hommes de guerre, venus en renfort en bon ordre, se rendirent à Hébron de pleincoeur pour proclamer David roi sur tout Israël; tous les autres Israélites étaient d'ailleurs unanimes pour conférerla royauté à David.	39 All these soldiers, drawn up in battle order, came to Hebron with the resolute intention of making David king over all Israel. The rest of Israel was likewise of one mind to make David king.
40 Trois jours durant, ils demeurèrent là à manger et à boire avec David. Leurs frères avaienttout apprêté pour eux;	40 They remained with David for three days, feasting and drinking, for their brethren had prepared for them.
41 de plus, des environs et jusque d'Issachar, Zabulon et Nephtali, on leur faisait parvenir desvivres, par ânes, chameaux, mulets et boeufs: farine, figues et gâteaux de raisin, vin et huile, gros et petit bétailen masse, car c'était liesse en Israël.	41 Moreover, their neighbors from as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali came bringing food on asses, camels, mules, and oxen--provisions in great quantity of meal, pressed figs, raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep. For there was rejoicing in Israel.
