DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said:	1 Palabras de Agur, hijo de Iaqué, de Masá. Oráculo de este gran hombre: ¡Me he fatigado, Dios, me he fatigado, Dios, y estoy exhausto!
2 I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me.	2 Sí, soy demasiado torpe para ser un hombre y no tengo la inteligencia de un ser humano;
3 I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.	3 nunca aprendí la sabiduría, ¡y qué puedo saber de la ciencia del Santo!
4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?	4 ¿Quién subió a los cielos y descendió? ¿Quién recogió el viento en sus puños? ¿Quién contuvo las aguas en su manto? ¿Quién estableció los confines de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su nombre y el nombre de su hijo, si es que lo sabes?
5 Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.	5 Toda palabra de Dios es acrisolada, Dios es un escudo para el que se refugia en él.
6 Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:	6 No añadas nada a sus palabras, no sea que te reprenda y seas tenido por mentiroso.
7 Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.	7 Hay dos cosas que yo te pido, no me la niegues antes que muera:
8 Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:	8 aleja de mí la falsedad y la mentira; no me des ni pobreza ni riqueza, dame la ración necesaria,
9 Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.	9 no sea que, al sentirme satisfecho, reniegue y diga: «¿Quién es el Señor?», o que, siendo pobre, me ponga a robar y atente contra el nombre de mi Dios.
10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.	10 No denigres a un servidor delante de su patrón, no sea que él te maldiga y cargues con la culpa.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.	11 Hay cierta clase de gente que maldice a su padre y no bendice a su madre,
12 A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.	12 gente que se considera pura y no se ha lavado de su inmundicia.
13 A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.	13 ¡Qué altaneros son los ojos de esa gente, cuánto desdén hay en sus miradas!
14 A generation, that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.	14 Sus dientes son espadas y sus mandíbulas, cuchillos, para devorar a los desvalidos de la tierra y a los más pobres entre los hombres.
15 The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough.	15 La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas: «¡Dame!» y «¡Dame!». Hay tres cosas insaciables y cuatro que nunca dicen: «¡Basta!».
16 Hell, and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough.	16 el Abismo y el vientre estéril, la tierra, que no se sacia de agua, y el fuego, que nunca dice: «¡Basta!».
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.	17 Al ojo que se burla de su padre y desprecia la vejez de su madre, lo vaciarán los cuervos del torrente y lo devorarán los aguiluchos.
18 Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of.	18 Hay tres cosas que me superan y cuatro que no comprendo:
19 The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man in youth.	19 el camino del águila en el cielo, el camino de la serpiente sobre la roca, el camino del hombre en una joven.
20 Such is also the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: I have done no evil.	20 Esta es la conducta de la mujer adúltera: come, se limpia la boca y exclama: «¡No hice nada malo!».
21 By three things the earth is disturbed, and the fourth it cannot bear:	21 Por tres cosas tiembla la tierra y hay cuatro que no puede soportar:
22 By a slave when he reigneth: by a fool when he is filled with meat:	22 un esclavo que llega a rey, un tonto que se harta de pan,
23 By an odious woman when she is married: and by a bondwoman when she is heir to her mistress.	23 una mujer odiada que encuentra marido y una esclava que hereda a su señora.
24 There are four very little things of the earth, and they are wiser than the wise:	24 Hay cuatro seres, lo más pequeños de la tierra, que son sabios entre los sabios:
25 The ants, a feeble people, which provide themselves food in the harvest:	25 las hormigas, pueblo sin fuerza, que aseguran sus provisiones en verano;
26 The rabbit, a weak people, which maketh its bed in the rock:	26 los damanes, pueblo sin poder, que instalan sus casa en la roca;
27 The locust hath no king, yet they all go out by their bands.	27 las langostas, que no tienen rey, pero avanzan todas en escuadrones;
28 The stellio supporteth itself on hands, and dwelleth in kings' houses.	28 la lagartija, que puedes agarrar con la mano, pero habita en los palacios de los reyes.
29 There are three things, which go well, and the fourth that walketh happily:	29 Hay tres cosas de paso majestuoso y cuatro que caminan con elegancia:
30 A lion, the strongest of beasts, who hath no fear of any thing he meeteth:	30 el león, el más fuerte entre los animales, que no retrocede ante nada;
31 A cock girded about the loins: and a ram: and a king, whom none can resist.	31 el gallo vigoroso, o el chivo, y el rey al frente de su regimiento.
32 There is that hath appeared a fool after he was lifted up on high: for if he had understood, he would have laid his hand upon his mouth.	32 Si fuiste tan tonto que te exaltaste a ti mismo y luego reflexionaste, tápate bien la boca,
33 And he that strongly squeezeth the papa to bring out milk, straineth out butter: and he that violently bloweth his nose, bringeth out blood: and he that provoketh wrath bringeth forth strife.	33 porque apretando la leche se saca manteca, apretando la nariz se saca sangre y apretando la ira se saca una disputa.
