DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright.1 Rejoice, you just, in the LORD; praise from the upright is fitting.
Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.2 Give thanks to the LORD on the harp; on the ten-stringed lyre offer praise.
Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.3 Sing to God a new song; skillfully play with joyful chant.
For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.4 For the LORD'S word is true; all his works are trustworthy.
He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.5 The LORD loves justice and right and fills the earth with goodness.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:6 By the LORD'S word the heavens were made; by the breath of his mouth all their host.
Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.7 The waters of the sea were gathered as in a bowl; in cellars the deep was confined.
Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all who dwell in the world show reverence.
For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.9 For he spoke, and it came to be, commanded, and it stood in place.
The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.10 The LORD foils the plan of nations, frustrates the designs of peoples.
But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.11 But the plan of the LORD stands forever, wise designs through all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.12 Happy the nation whose God is the LORD, the people chosen as his very own.
The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.13 From heaven the LORD looks down and observes the whole human race,
From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.14 Surveying from the royal throne all who dwell on earth.
He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.15 The one who fashioned the hearts of them all knows all their works.
The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.16 A king is not saved by a mighty army, nor a warrior delivered by great strength.
Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.17 Useless is the horse for safety; its great strength, no sure escape.
Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.18 But the LORD'S eyes are upon the reverent, upon those who hope for his gracious help,
To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.19 Delivering them from death, keeping them alive in times of famine.
Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.20 Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and shield.
For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.21 For in God our hearts rejoice; in your holy name we trust.
Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee.22 May your kindness, LORD, be upon us; we have put our hope in you.
