DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 I made a covenant with my eyes, that I would not so much as think upon a virgin.	1 Feci io patto cogli occhi miei, acciò ch' io in verità non pensassi della vergine.
2 For what part should God from above have in me, and what inheritance the Almighty from on high?	2 Adunque che parte avrebbe Iddio di sopra a me, e la ereditade all' Onnipotente di cose eccelse?
3 Is not destruction to the wicked, and aversion to them that work iniquity?	3 Or non è perdizione al malvagio, e alienazione a coloro che òperano la ingiustizia?
4 Doth not he consider my ways, and number all my steps?	4 Or non considera elli le mie vie, e tutti li andamenti miei annumera?
5 If I have walked in vanity, and my foot hath made haste to deceit:	5 Se io andai nella vanitade, e affrettossi lo piede mio in inganno;
6 Let him weigh me in a just balance, and let God know my simplicity.	6 pona me nella giusta statera, e sappia Iddio la mia simplicitade.
7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and if my heart hath followed my eyes, and if a spot hath cleaved to my hands:	7 Se si partì l'andamento mio della via, se seguitò l'occhio mio il cuore, e nelle mie mani s'appiccò macchia;
8 Then let me sow and let another eat: and let my offspring be rooted out.	8 seminarò, e uno altro mangerà; e la mia schiatta sarà deradicata.
9 If my heart hath been deceived upon a woman, and if I have laid wait at my friend's door:	9 Se ingannato è lo cuore mio sopra la femina, e se io assediai l'uscio dell' amico mio;
10 Let my wife be the harlot of another, and let other men lie with her.	10 meretrice sia di un altro la moglie mia, e sopra quella si distendano gli. altri.
11 For this is a heinous crime, and a most grievous iniquity.	11 Certo questo è fellonia, e massima iniquitade.
12 It is a fire that devoureth even to destruction, and rooteth up all things that spring.	12 Fuoco è, devorante insino alla perdizione, e deradicante ogni generazione (mia).
13 If I have despised to abide judgment with my manservant, or my maidservant, when they had any controversy against me:	13 Se disprezzai di sottoporre me allo giudicio col servo mio e l' ancilla mia, quando contendevano contro a me;
14 For what shall I do when God shall rise to judge? and when he shall examine, what shall I answer him?	14 che adunque faroe, quando si leverae Iddio a giudicare? e quando addomanderae, che responderò a lui?
15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him also: and did not one and the same form me in the womb?	15 Or non fece me nel ventre, il quale e quello fece, e formò me uno nella vulva?
16 If I have denied to the poor what they desired, and have made the eyes of the widow wait:	16 Se io negai alli poveri quello che vole ano, e feci aspettare l'occhio della vedova;
17 If I have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof:	17 se io mangiai la mia fetta solo, e non mangioe lo pupillo di quella;
18 (For from my infancy mercy grew up with me: and it came out with me from my mother's womb :)	18 perciò che dalla mia fanciullezza crescè meco la miserazione, e del ventre della madre mia venne meco;
19 If I have despised him that was perishing for want of clothing, and the poor man that had no covering:	19 se disprezzai colui che passava, per ch' elli non avea il vestire, e lo povero sanza coprimento;
20 If his sides have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep:	20 se non benedissero me li lati suoi, e della lana delle pecore mie s'è riscaldato;
21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw myself superior in the gate:	21 s' io levai sopra lo pupillo la mia mano, eziandio quando vedeva[mi] superiore nella porta;
22 Let my shoulder fall from its joint, and let my arm with its bones be broken.	22 l'omero mio delle sue giunture caggia, e lo mio braccio colle sue ossa sieno contrite.
23 For I have always feared God as waves swelling over me, and his weight I was not able to bear.	23 Certo sempre, sì come onde di mare gonfiate sopra me, temetti Iddio, e lo suo carico non potei portare.
24 If I have thought gold my strength, and have said to fine gold: My confidence:	24 S' io pensai che l'oro fosse mia fortezza, e all' oro ottimo e risplendente dissi: tu sei la fidanza mia;
25 If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much.	25 s' io mi rallegrai sopra le molte mie ricchezze, e perciò che più cose trovò la mia mano;
26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, and the moon going in brightness:	26 s' io vidi lo sole quando risplendea, e la luna andante chiaramente;
27 And my heart in secret hath rejoiced, and I have kissed my hand with my mouth:	27 e rallegrato è in ascoso lo mio cuore, e basciai la mia mano colla mia bocca;
28 Which is a very great iniquity, and a denial against the most high God.	28 la quale è massima iniquitade, e negazione contro a Dio altissimo;
29 If I have been glad at the downfall of him that hated me, and have rejoiced that evil had found him.	29 S' io mi rallegrai della rovina di colui che mi odiava, e rallegra'mi di colui, che li fosse venuto male;
30 For I have not given my mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul.	30 in veritade io non diedi al peccare la mia gola, acciò ch' io addomandassi maledicente l' anima sua;
31 If the men of my tabernacle have not said: Who will give us of his flesh that we may be filled?	31 se non dissero gli uomini del mio tabernacolo chi ci darae della carne sua acciò che noi ci saziamo?
32 The stranger did not stay without, my door was open to the traveller.	32 di fuori non stette lo peregrino; l'uscio mio si manifestò allo viandante;
33 If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom.	33 s'io nascosi, quasi come uomo, lo mio peccato, e celai nello seno mio la mia iniquitade;
34 If I have been afraid at a very great multitude, and the contempt of kinsmen hath terrified me: and I have not rather held my peace, and not gone out of the door.	34 se io mi spaventai alla troppo moltitudine, e lo disprezzo delli più prossimi spaurì me; e non maggiormente tacetti, e non uscii fuori dell' uscio;
35 Who would grant me a hearer, that the Almighty may hear my desire; and that he himself that judgeth would write a book,	35 chi darà a me auditore, acciò che l' Onnipotente oda il mio desiderio; e lo libro scriva colui che giudica;
36 That I may carry it on my shoulder, and put it about me as a crown?	36 acciò che collo mio omero lo porti, e poni intorno a quello, sì come corona a me?
37 At every step of mine I would pronounce it, and offer it as to a prince.	37 Per tutti li miei gradi pronunzierò quello, e sì come a principe io offerirò lui.
38 If my land cry against me, and with it the furrows thereof mourn:	38 Se contro a me la mia terra grida, e con lei gli solchi suoi piangono;
39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have afflicted the soul of the tillers thereof:	39 se li frutti suoi mangiai sanza pecunia, l'anima delli lavoratori tormentai;
40 Let thistles grow up to me instead of wheat, and thorns instead of barley.	40 per lo grano naschi a me lo tribolo, e per l'orzo la spina.
