Prima lettera a Timoteo 6

1 Quanti stanno sotto il giogo come schiavi, stimino degni di ogni onore i loro padroni, affinché non vengano bestemmiati il nome di Dio e la dottrina (evangelica).	1 Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.
2 Quelli poi che hanno padroni credenti, non manchino loro di riguardo per il fatto che sono fratelli, ma li servano meglio proprio perché coloro che ricevono il beneficio dei loro servizi sono credenti e amati (da Dio). Queste cose inségnale e incùlcale.	2 But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things.
3 Se poi qualcuno insegna cose diverse e non aderisce alle sane parole, che sono quelle del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, e alla dottrina secondo pietà,	3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety,
4 è accecato dall'orgoglio e non sa nulla, pur essendo preso dalla febbre dei cavilli e dei litigi di parole: da tali cose hanno origine le invidie, le contese, le maldicenze, i sospetti maligni,	4 then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions:
5 le lotte di uomini guasti nelle loro menti e che si sono privati della verità appunto perché stimano che la pietà sia una fonte di guadagno.	5 the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety.
6 Certo, la pietà è un grande guadagno: congiunta però al sapersi contentare!	6 But piety with sufficiency is great gain.
7 Niente infatti abbiamo portato in questo mondo, ed è appunto per questo che niente potremo neppure portare via.	7 For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away.
8 Avendo però di che nutrirci e il necessario per coprirci, accontentiamoci di queste cose.	8 But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these.
9 Coloro, infatti, che vogliono diventar ricchi, incappano nella tentazione, nel laccio (di Satana) e in molteplici desideri insensati e nocivi, i quali sommergono gli uomini nella rovina e nella perdizione.	9 For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.
10 Poiché radice di tutti i mali è l'amore al denaro, per il cui sfrenato desiderio alcuni si sono sviati dalla fede e da se stessi si sono martoriati con molti dolori.	10 For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.
11 Ma tu, o uomo di Dio, fuggi queste cose; ricerca invece la giustizia, la pietà, la fede, la carità, la pazienza, la mansuetudine.	11 But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.
12 Combatti il buon combattimento della fede, cerca di conquistare la vita eterna, alla quale sei stato chiamato e per la quale hai confessato la bella confessione davanti a molti testimoni.	12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses.
13 Ti scongiuro, davanti a Dio che vivifica tutte le cose, e davanti a Cristo Gesù che testimoniò la bella confessione sotto Ponzio Pilato,	13 I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,
14 di conservare immacolato e irreprensibile il comandamento fino alla manifestazione del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo:	14 to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 manifestazione che, nei tempi stabiliti, opererà il beato e unico Sovrano, il Re dei regnanti e Signore dei signori,	15 For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,
16 il solo che possiede l'immortalità e abita una luce inaccessibile, che nessun uomo mai vide né potrà vedere. A lui onore e potenza eterna. Amen!	16 who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.
17 Ai ricchi di questo mondo raccomanda di non essere orgogliosi, né di riporre le loro speranze nell'instabilità della ricchezza, ma in Dio che ci provvide abbondantemente di tutto perché ne possiamo godere.	17 Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy,
18 (Raccomanda) loro anche di far del bene, di arricchirsi di opere buone, di essere generosi nel dare, disposti a partecipare agli altri (i loro beni),	18 and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share,
19 mettendosi da parte un bel capitale per il futuro, onde acquistare la vera vita.	19 to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life.
20 O Timoteo, custodisci il deposito, schivando le profane vacuità di parole e le opposizioni di una scienza di falso nome,	20 O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge.
21 professando la quale taluni si sviarono dalla fede. La grazia sia con voi!	21 Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen.
