LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Anche a Iconio entrarono nella sinagoga dei Giudei e parlarono con tanta efficacia che un gran numero di Giudei e di Greci abbracciarono la fede.	1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.
2 Ma i Giudei increduli eccitarono i pagani ed esasperarono i loro animi contro i fratelli.	2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)
3 Ciò nonostante si trattennero colà per molto tempo, parlando con coraggio nel Signore, che dava testimonianza alla predicazione della sua grazia e concedeva che si compissero segni e prodigi per mano loro.	3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.
4 La popolazione della città si divise: alcuni stavano con i Giudei, altri con gli apostoli.	4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,
5 Ma quando pagani e Giudei si mossero con i loro capi per maltrattarli e lapidarli,	5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.
6 saputolo, si rifugiarono nelle città della Licaonia, a Listra, a Derbe e nei dintorni.	6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,
7 E colà predicavano il vangelo.	7 they preached the good news.
8 Vi era un uomo in Listra incapace di reggersi in piedi, essendo zoppo fin dalla nascita. Stava sempre seduto e non aveva mai fatto un passo.	8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;
9 Costui sentì Paolo mentre parlava. Paolo, guardandolo fisso e vedendo che aveva fede per essere guarito,	9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.
10 disse a gran voce: "A'lzati diritto sui tuoi piedi". Egli balzò su e cominciò a camminare.	10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.
11 Le turbe, vedendo ciò che Paolo aveva fatto, si misero a gridare in licaonico: "Gli dèi in forma umana sono discesi tra noi".	11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'
12 E chiamavano Bàrnaba Zeus e Paolo Ermes, poiché era il più eloquente.	12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.
13 Intanto il sacerdote di Zeus, il cui tempio si trovava alle porte della città, condusse dei tori inghirlandati presso le porte e voleva offrire un sacrificio insieme con la folla.	13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.
14 Quando gli apostoli Bàrnaba e Paolo vennero a sapere di ciò, stracciando le loro vesti si precipitarono in mezzo alla folla gridando:	14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,
15 "Uomini, perché fate queste cose? Anche noi siamo esseri umani come voi, con le vostre debolezze, e vi predichiamo di convertirvi da queste cose vane al Dio vivente, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che in essi si trova.	15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.
16 Egli nelle generazioni passate ha tollerato che tutte le genti andassero per le loro strade.	16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;
17 Ma non ha lasciato se stesso privo di testimonianza, operando benefici, dandovi dal cielo le piogge e le stagioni fruttifere, saziandovi di cibo e riempiendo di letizia i vostri cuori".	17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'
18 Dicendo ciò, a mala pena riuscirono a trattenere le folle dall'offrir loro un sacrificio.	18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.
19 Ma giunsero dei Giudei da Antiochia e da Iconio, i quali si guadagnarono le folle e lapidarono Paolo e lo trascinarono fuori della città, pensandolo morto.	19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.
20 Ma quando i discepoli gli fecero cerchio intorno, egli si alzò ed entrò in città. Il giorno dopo partì con Bàrnaba per Derbe.	20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
21 Dopo aver evangelizzato quella città e fatto molti discepoli, tornarono a Listra, a Iconio e ad Antiochia,	21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.
22 fortificando gli animi dei discepoli ed esortandoli a perseverare nella fede, dicendo che è attraverso molte tribolazioni che dobbiamo entrare nel regno di Dio.	22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'
23 Per loro costituirono nelle singole chiese degli anziani e, dopo aver pregato e digiunato, li raccomandarono al Signore nel quale avevano creduto.	23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.
24 Attraversata la Pisidia, giunsero nella Panfilia	24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
25 e, dopo aver predicato la parola a Perge, discesero ad Attalia	25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia
26 e di lì fecero vela per Antiochia, da dove erano stati raccomandati alla grazia di Dio per l'opera che avevano compiuto.	26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.
27 Giunti colà e radunata la chiesa, annunciarono tutto ciò che Dio aveva compiuto per mezzo loro e come aveva aperto ai pagani la porta della fede.	27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.
28 Ivi rimasero non poco tempo con i discepoli.	28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.
