LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questo è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio e la legge che rimane in perpetuo; chiunque la possiede vivrà, chiunque l'abbandona perirà.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Ritorna, o Giacobbe, e accoglila, cammina allo splendore della sua luce.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria né a nazione straniera i tuoi privilegi.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Noi beati, o Israele, perché ciò che piace a Dio a noi è noto.	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Coraggio, popolo mio, memoriale di Israele!	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Foste venduti alle nazioni non per la distruzione, ma perché irritaste Dio foste consegnati ai nemici vostri.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Avete esacerbato, infatti, il vostro Creatore sacrificando ai dèmoni e non a Dio.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Avete dimenticato chi vi ha nutrito, il Dio eterno, e contristato anche colei che vi nutrì, Gerusalemme!	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 Vide, infatti, arrivare a voi l'ira di Dio e disse: Ascoltate, o città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha addossato un lutto grande.	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 Ho visto, infatti, la schiavitù dei figli miei e delle figlie che procurò loro l'Eterno!	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Li avevo nutriti con gioia, ma li allontanai con pianto e lutto.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Nessuno si rallegri per me vedova e abbandonata da molti; sono desolata per i peccati dei miei figli, perché deviarono dalla legge di Dio.	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 Non riconobbero i suoi precetti né seguirono i comandamenti di Dio, né i sentieri della disciplina, secondo la sua giustizia, intrapresero.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Venite, o vicine di Sion, e considerate la schiavitù dei figli miei e delle figlie che procurò loro l'Eterno!	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Ha condotto contro di essi una nazione lontana, una nazione crudele e d'altra lingua; non rispettarono il vecchio né ebbero pietà del fanciullo.	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 Strapparono i prediletti alla vedova e la lasciarono sola, priva delle figlie.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 Io, dunque, come potrei aiutarvi?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Colui, però, che procura i mali contro di voi, dalle mani dei vostri nemici vi libererà.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Andatevene, figlie, andatevene, poiché io sono rimasta sola.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 Ho tolto la veste di pace, ho indossato il sacco della mia supplica, voglio gridare all'Eterno per tutti i giorni miei.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Coraggio, figli, invocate Dio e vi libererà dall'oppressione, dalla mano dei nemici.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 Io, infatti, spero dall'Eterno la salvezza vostra. Una gioia venne a me dal Santo per la misericordia che presto verrà dall'Eterno, vostro salvatore.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Vi vidi partire con lutto e pianto ma Dio vi restituirà a me con allegrezza e gioia, per sempre.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Come ora, infatti, le vicine di Sion han visto la schiavitù vostra, così presto vedranno la salvezza che a voi verrà da parte di Dio, con gloria grande e splendore dell'Eterno.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Figli, sopportate l'ira che vi è sopraggiunta da parte di Dio; ti ha perseguitato il tuo nemico, ma presto vedrai la sua rovina e sul loro collo tu camminerai.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 I miei piccoli delicati percorsero vie scabrose, prelevati come un gregge rapito dai nemici.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Coraggio, figli, e invocate Dio, poiché si ricorderà di voi chi vi fece condurre via.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Come, infatti, fu vostro pensiero allontanarvi da Dio, così convertendovi decuplicate lo zelo nel cercarlo.	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 Poiché chi vi arrecò questi mali vi porterà gioia eterna con la vostra salvezza.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Coraggio, Gerusalemme, ti consolerà chi ti dette il nome.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Guai a coloro che ti danneggiarono e gioirono per la tua caduta!	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 Guai alle città dove i tuoi nati furono schiavi! Guai a colei che trattenne i figli tuoi!	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Come, infatti, godette per la tua caduta e si rallegrò per la tua rovina, così si rattristerà per la sua desolazione.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 Le toglierò la gioia della sua grande popolazione e il suo tripudio lo trasformerò in lutto.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Fuoco, infatti, l'avvolgerà per molti giorni da parte dell'Eterno, e sarà abitata da dèmoni per lungo tempo.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Osserva a oriente, o Gerusalemme, e contempla la gioia che ti viene da Dio.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Ecco: arrivano i figli tuoi che lasciasti partire, arrivano riuniti da oriente a occidente per la parola del Santo, esultanti nella gloria di Dio.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
