1 Queste sono le parole della lettera che inviò il profeta Geremia da Gerusalemme al resto degli anziani deportati, ai sacerdoti, ai profeti e a tutto il popolo che Nabucodònosor aveva deportato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia	1 This is the contents of the letter which the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, to the priests, the prophets, and all the people who were exiled by Nebuchadnezzar from Jerusalem to Babylon.
2 dopo la partenza del re Ieconia, della regina, degli eunuchi, dei prìncipi di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, dei fabbri e dei fonditori, da Gerusalemme.	2 This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the courtiers, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the artisans and the skilled workmen had left Jerusalem.
3 La mandò per mezzo di Eleasà, figlio di Safàn, e di Ghemarìa, figlio di Chelkia, che Sedecia, re di Giuda, inviava a Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, in Babilonia. Essa diceva:	3 Delivered in Babylon by Elasah, son of Shaphan, and by Gemariah, son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah, king of Judah, sent to the king of Babylon, the letter read:
4 "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele, a tutti i deportati che ho fatto esiliare da Gerusalemme in Babilonia.	4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 Costruite case e abitatele; piantate giardini e mangiate i loro frutti;	5 Build houses to dwell in; plant gardens, and eat their fruits.
6 prendete mogli e generate figli e figlie; prendete mogli per i vostri figli e date le vostre figlie a marito, affinché generiate figli e figlie, affinché vi moltiplichiate lì e non diminuiate!	6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters. There you must increase in number, not decrease.
7 Cercate la pace della città dove vi ho deportato e pregate per essa il Signore, poiché attraverso il suo benessere verrà anche a voi benessere.	7 Promote the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you; pray for it to the LORD, for upon its welfare depends your own.
8 Così dice infatti il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Non vi seducano i profeti che sono in mezzo a voi e i vostri indovini; non date retta ai loro sogni,	8 thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let yourselves be deceived by the prophets and diviners who are among you; do not listen to those among you who dream dreams.
9 poiché essi profetizzano menzogna nel mio nome: non li ho inviati, oracolo del Signore.	9 For they prophesy lies to you in my name; I did not send them, says the LORD.
10 Così, infatti, dice il Signore: Soltanto quando saranno compiuti settant'anni per Babilonia io vi visiterò e realizzerò per voi le buone parole, riconducendovi in questo luogo.	10 Thus says the LORD: Only after seventy years have elapsed for Babylon will I visit you and fulfill for you my promise to bring you back to this place.
11 Io, infatti, conosco i piani che sto progettando sul vostro conto, oracolo del Signore: piani di pace e non di sventura, per darvi un futuro pieno di speranza.	11 For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope.
12 Mi invocherete, camminerete dietro di me, mi pregherete e io vi ascolterò;	12 When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you.
13 mi cercherete e mi troverete, poiché allora mi consulterete con tutto il vostro cuore.	13 When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,
14 Io mi farò trovare da voi, oracolo del Signore, e ricondurrò i vostri deportati e vi radunerò di mezzo a tutte le nazioni e da tutti i luoghi dove io vi ho dispersi, oracolo del Signore, e vi farò ritornare al luogo dal quale vi ho fatto deportare.	14 you will find me with you, says the LORD, and I will change your lot; I will gather you together from all the nations and all the places to which I have banished you, says the LORD, and bring you back to the place from which I have exiled you.
15 Voi direte: "Il Signore ci ha suscitato dei profeti in Babilonia".	15 As for your saying, "The LORD has raised up for us prophets here in Babylon"--
16 Ma così dice il Signore al re che siede sul trono di Davide e a tutto il popolo che abita in questa città, i vostri fratelli che non sono stati deportati con voi:	16 Thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on David's throne, and all the people who remain in this city, your brethren who did not go with you into exile;
17 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco che io invio contro di loro la spada, la fame e la peste e li renderò come fichi marci che non si possono mangiare per quanto sono cattivi.	17 thus says the LORD of hosts: I am sending against them sword, famine and pestilence. I will make them like rotten figs, too bad to be eaten.
18 Io li inseguirò con la spada, con la fame e con la peste e li renderò un orrore dinanzi a tutti i regni della terra, esecrazione, stupore, scherno e obbrobrio in mezzo a tutte le nazioni dove li disperderò,	18 I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and make them an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, of malediction, astonishment, ridicule, and reproach to all the nations among which I will banish them.
19 perché non ascoltarono le mie parole, oracolo del Signore, quando inviai loro i miei servi, i profeti, tempestivamente e sollecitamente: non li ascoltarono! Oracolo del Signore.	19 For they did not listen to my words, says the LORD, though I kept sending them my servants the prophets, only to have them go unheeded, says the LORD.
20 Ma voi ascoltate la parola del Signore, o deportati tutti, che io ho mandato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia.	20 You, now, listen to the word of the LORD, all you exiles whom I sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
21 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, ad Acab, figlio di Kolaià, e a Sedecia, figlio di Maasià, che vi profetizzano menzogna nel mio nome: Ecco, io li do in potere di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, e li ucciderà sotto i vostri occhi.	21 This is what the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, has to say about those who prophesy lies to you in my name, Ahab, son of Kolaiah, and Zedekiah, son of Maaseiah: I am handing them over to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, who will slay them before your eyes.
22 E da essi si trarrà una formula di maledizione che useranno tutti i deportati di Giuda che sono in Babilonia: "Il Signore tratti come Sedecia e come Acab, che il re di Babilonia arrostì con il fuoco!".	22 All the exiles of Judah in Babylon will pattern a curse after them: "May the LORD make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the flames."
23 Questo poiché commisero nefandezze in Israele, commisero adulterio con le mogli del loro prossimo e pronunciarono parole menzognere nel mio nome quando io non glielo ordinai. Io so e testifico, oracolo del Signore".	23 For they are criminals in Israel, committing adultery with their neighbors' wives, and alleging in my name things I did not command. I know, I am witness, says the LORD.
24 A Semaià, il nechelamita, dirai così:	24 Say this to Shemaiah, the Nehelamite:
25 "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: Tu hai mandato a tuo nome lettere a tutto il popolo che è in Gerusalemme, al sacerdote Sofonia, figlio di Maasià, e a tutti i sacerdoti dicendo:	25 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you sent letters on your own authority to all the people of Jerusalem, to all the priests and to Zephaniah, the priest, son of Maaseiah, with this message:
26 "Il Signore ti ha costituito sacerdote al posto del sacerdote Ioiadà per essere sorvegliante nella casa del Signore, contro ogni esaltato che profetizza, affinché lo metta ai ceppi nella gogna.	26 "The LORD has appointed you priest in place of the priest Jehoiada, so that there may be police officers in the house of the LORD, to take action against all madmen and those who pose as prophets, by putting them into the stocks or the pillory.
27 Orbene, perché non reprimi Geremia di Anatòt che profetizza tra di voi?	27 Why, then, do you not rebuke Jeremiah of Anathoth who poses as a prophet among you?
28 Infatti egli ci ha inviato una lettera in Babilonia in cui dice: Sarà lungo! Costruite case e abitatele e piantate giardini e mangiatene i frutti".	28 For he sent us in Babylon this message: It will be a long time; build houses to live in; plant gardens and eat their fruits. . . ."
29 Il sacerdote Sofonia lesse questa lettera alle orecchie di Geremia il profeta.	29 When the priest Zephaniah read this letter to the prophet,
30 Allora la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia in questi termini:	30 the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
31 "Manda a dire a tutti i deportati: Così dice il Signore a Semaià il nechelamita: Poiché Semaià ha profetizzato a voi mentre io non l'ho inviato e vi ha fatto confidare nella menzogna,	31 Send the message to all the exiles: Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah, the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah prophesies to you without a mission from me, and raises false confidence,
32 per questo dice il Signore: Ecco, io visiterò Semaià il nechelamita e la sua stirpe: non avrà alcuno che abiti in mezzo a questo popolo e non godrà della prosperità che io accorderò al mio popolo, oracolo del Signore, poiché ha predicato la ribellione contro il Signore!".	32 says the LORD, I will therefore punish Shemaiah, the Nehelamite, and his offspring. None of them shall survive among this people to see the good I will do to this people, says the LORD, because he preached rebellion against the LORD.
