LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Nell'anno trentaseiesimo del regno di Asa, Baasa, re d'Israele, mosse contro Giuda e costruì Rama, per impedire le comunicazioni con Asa, re di Giuda.	1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah toblock the communications of Asa king of Judah.
2 Asa tirò fuori dai tesori del tempio del Signore e del palazzo reale argento e oro e li mandò a Ben-Adàd, re di Aram, residente a Damasco con queste parole:	2 Asa then took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and the royal palace andsent this with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus,
3 "Vi sia alleanza tra me e te, come c'era tra il padre mio e il padre tuo. Ecco, ti mando argento e oro. Orsù, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasa, re d'Israele, in modo che si ritiri da me".	3 'Let us make an alliance between me and you, between my father and your father! Look, I have sentyou silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil make him withdraw fromme.'
4 Ben-Adàd diede retta al re Asa e mandò contro le città d'Israele i capi delle sue forze armate, i quali colpirono Iion, Dan, Abel-Maim e tutti i magazzini delle città di Neftali.	4 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim and al the storage towns of Naphtali.
5 Or quando Baasa ebbe udito ciò, desistette dal fortificare Rama e cessò la sua opera.	5 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah, abandoning this work.
6 Allora il re Asa convocò tutti quelli di Giuda, che asportarono le pietre e il legname coi quali Baasa stava fortificando Rama e con essi egli fortificò Gheba e Mizpà.	6 King Asa then had al Judah carry away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifyingRamah, and used them to fortify Geba and Mizpah.
7 In quel tempo il veggente Canàni si recò da Asa, re di Giuda, e gli disse: "Poiché ti sei appoggiato sul re di Aram e non sul Signore, tuo Dio, l'esercito del re di Aram è sfuggito al tuo potere.	7 Then it was that Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, 'Because you relied on the kingof Aram and not on Yahweh your God, the king of Aram's army wil slip through your fingers.
8 Forse che gli Etiopi e i Libici non formavano un grande esercito con abbondantissimi carri e cavalieri? Eppure siccome tu ti sei appoggiato sul Signore, egli li ha consegnati in tuo potere.	8 Did not the Cushites and Libyans form a vast army with great numbers of chariots and cavalry? Evenso, because you relied on Yahweh, he gave you the upper hand;
9 Difatti il Signore con i suoi occhi scruta tutta la terra, per mostrare la sua potenza verso quelli che hanno un cuore integro a suo riguardo. Ti sei comportato da stolto in questo, per cui d'ora innanzi avrai guerre".	9 for Yahweh's eyes rove to and fro across the whole world to support those whose hearts are loyal tohim. You have acted like a fool in this respect; hence, from now on you wil have wars.'
10 Asa si sdegnò contro il veggente e lo fece gettare in carcere, perché era adirato con lui per questa cosa. Inoltre Asa maltrattò in quel tempo anche alcuni del popolo.	10 Enraged with the seer, Asa had him put in the stocks in prison, being angry with him over this; at thesame time Asa ill-treated some of the people too.
11 Ed ecco, le gesta di Asa, le prime come le ultime, sono descritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.	11 The history of Asa, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
12 Nell'anno trentanovesimo del suo regno Asa si ammalò ai piedi, di una malattia estremamente grave. Ma neppure nella sua malattia egli ricercò il Signore, ma solamente i medici.	12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa contracted a disease in his feet, which became very severe;in his il ness, however, he consulted not Yahweh but the doctors.
13 Asa si addormentò con i suoi padri e morì nell'anno quarantesimoprimo del suo regno.	13 Asa then fel asleep with his ancestors, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.
14 Lo seppellirono nel sepolcro che egli si era fatto scavare nella Città di Davide. Fu deposto sopra un letto pieno di aromi e ogni sorta di profumi preparati secondo l'arte della profumeria; per lui ne bruciarono un'immensa quantità.	14 He was buried in the tomb which he had ordered to be cut for him in the City of David. He was laid inthe burial chamber which was fil ed with perfume blended from all sorts of oils, and a very great funeral fire wasmade for him.
