LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Quando il regno fu consolidato ed egli divenne forte, Roboamo abbandonò la legge del Signore e con lui tutto Israele.	1 And when the kingdom of Roboam was strengthened and fortified, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
2 Nell'anno quinto del re Roboamo, Sisach, re d'Egitto, marciò contro Gerusalemme, perché erano diventati infedeli al Signore.	2 And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)
3 Egli aveva con sé milleduecento carri e sessantamila cavalieri, non si poteva contare la moltitudine che era venuta con lui dall'Egitto: Libici, Succhei ed Etiopi.	3 With twelve hundred chariots and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt, to wit, Libyans, and Troglodites, and Ethiopians.
4 Dopo aver occupato le città fortificate di Giuda, egli giunse fino a Gerusalemme.	4 And he took the strongest cities in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Allora il profeta Semaia si presentò a Roboamo e ai capi di Giuda che si erano radunati a Gerusalemme per paura di Sisach e disse loro: "Così parla il Signore: Voi avete abbandonato me e io ho abbandonato voi nelle mani di Sisach".	5 And Semeias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda, that were gathered together in Jerusalem, fleeing from Sesac, and he said to them : Thus saith the Lord: You have left me, and I have left you in the hand of Sesac.
6 Allora i capi d'Israele e il re si umiliarono e dissero: "Giusto è il Signore".	6 And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.
7 Quando il Signore vide che si erano umiliati, fu rivolta la parola del Signore a Semaia, in questi termini: "Si sono umiliati; non li sterminerò, anzi tra breve concederò loro salvezza e la mia ira non si riverserà su Gerusalemme per mezzo di Sisach.	7 And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.
8 Tuttavia saranno a lui sottomessi e così faranno l'esperienza di che cosa sia servire a me e servire ai regni delle nazioni!".	8 But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.
9 Sisach, re d'Egitto, salì a Gerusalemme e prese i tesori del tempio del Signore e i tesori del palazzo reale; portò via tutto, persino gli scudi d'oro fatti fare da Salomone.	9 So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king's house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,
10 Il re Roboamo li sostituì con scudi di bronzo, affidandone la custodia ai comandanti delle guardie poste all'ingresso del palazzo reale.	10 Instead of which the king made brazen ones, and delivered them to the captains of the shieldbearers, who guarded the entrance of the palace.
11 Ogni volta che il re si recava nel tempio del Signore, le guardie venivano a prenderli e poi li riportavano nella sala delle guardie.	11 And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the shieldbearers came and took them, and brought them back again to their armoury.
12 Poiché Roboamo si era umiliato, la collera del Signore si distolse da lui e non lo distrusse completamente. Anzi, anche in Giuda vi fu qualche cosa di buono!	12 But yet because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and they were not utterly destroyed: for even in Juda there were found good works.
13 Il re Roboamo si consolidò in Gerusalemme e continuò a regnare. Quando divenne re, Roboamo aveva quarantun anni; regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città che il Signore aveva scelto fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per porre ivi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naama, l'ammonita.	13 King Roboam therefore was strengthened in Jerusalem, and reigned: he was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to establish his name there: and the name of his mother was Naama an Ammonitess.
14 Egli fece il male, perché non consacrò il suo cuore a ricercare il Signore.	14 But he did evil, and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.
15 Le gesta di Roboamo, le prime e le ultime, non sono forse descritte negli Atti del profeta Semaia e del veggente Iddo? Ciò vale anche per la genealogia e le continue guerre tra Roboamo e Geroboamo.	15 Now the acts of Roboam first and last are written in the books of Semeias the prophet, and of Addo the seer, and diligently recorded: and there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all their days.
16 Roboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re Abia, suo figlio.	16 And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abia his son reigned in his stead.
