The Praise of a Canticle, of David. Whoever dwells with the assistance of the Most High will abide in the protection of the God of heaven. | 1 Precatio. Moysis viri Dei. Domine, refugium factus es nobis a generatione in generationem. |
He will say to the Lord, “You are my supporter and my refuge.” My God, I will hope in him. | 2 Priusquam montes nascerentur, aut gigneretur terra et orbis, a saeculo et usque in saeculum tu es Deus. |
For he has freed me from the snare of those who go hunting, and from the harsh word. | 3 Reducis hominem in pulverem; et dixisti: “ Revertimini, filii hominum ”. |
He will overshadow you with his shoulders, and you will hope under his wings. | 4 Quoniam mille anni ante oculos tuos tamquam dies hesterna, quae praeteriit, et custodia in nocte. |
His truth will surround you with a shield. You will not be afraid: before the terror of the night, | 5 Auferes eos, somnium erunt: |
before the arrow flying in the day, before the troubles that wander in the darkness, nor of invasion and the midday demon. | 6 mane sicut herba succrescens, mane floret et crescit, vespere decidit et arescit. |
A thousand will fall before your side and ten thousand before your right hand. Yet it will not draw near you. | 7 Quia defecimus in ira tua et in furore tuo turbati sumus. |
So then, truly, you will consider with your eyes, and you will see the retribution of sinners. | 8 Posuisti iniquitates nostras in conspectu tuo, occulta nostra in illuminatione vultus tui. |
For you, O Lord, are my hope. You have set the Most High as your refuge. | 9 Quoniam omnes dies nostri evanuerunt in ira tua, consumpsimus ut suspirium annos nostros. |
Disaster will not draw near to you, and the scourge will not approach your tabernacle. | 10 Dies annorum nostrorum sunt septuaginta anni aut in valentibus octoginta anni, et maior pars eorum labor et dolor, quoniam cito transeunt, et avolamus. |
For he has given his Angels charge over you, so as to preserve you in all your ways. | 11 Quis novit potestatem irae tuae et secundum timorem tuum indignationem tuam? |
With their hands, they will carry you, lest you hurt your foot against a stone. | 12 Dinumerare dies nostros sic doce nos, ut inducamus cor ad sapientiam. |
You will walk over the asp and the king serpent, and you will trample the lion and the dragon. | 13 Convertere, Domine, usquequo? Et deprecabilis esto super servos tuos. |
Because he has hoped in me, I will free him. I will protect him because he has known my name. | 14 Reple nos mane misericordia tua, et exsultabimus et delectabimur omnibus diebus nostris. |
He will cry out to me, and I will heed him. I am with him in tribulation. I will rescue him, and I will glorify him. | 15 Laetifica nos pro diebus, quibus nos humiliasti, pro annis, quibus vidimus mala. |
I will fill him with length of days. And I will reveal to him my salvation. | 16 Appareat servis tuis opus tuum, et decor tuus filiis eorum. |
Et sit splendor Domini Dei nostri super nos, et opera manuum nostrarum confirma super nos et opus manuum nostrarum confirma. |
