1 Once Ehud was dead, the Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes,	1 Anche dopo la morte di Eud gli Israeliti continuarono a compiere ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore,
2 and Yahweh handed them over to Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned at Hazor. The commander of hisarmy was Sisera, who lived in Haroshet-ha-Goi m.	2 il quale li abbandonò nelle mani di Iabin, un re cananeo che regnava in Azor, e in quelle del comandante del suo esercito che si chiamava Sisara e risiedeva a Caroset-Goim.
3 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh; for Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots and had cruel y oppressedthe Israelites for twenty years.	3 Gli Israeliti alzarono allora il loro grido al Signore, perché Iabin, che aveva novecento carri da guerra di ferro, li opprimeva duramente da vent'anni.
4 Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.	4 C'era Debora, una profetessa, moglie di Lappidot, la quale in quel tempo era giudice in Israele.
5 She used to sit under Deborah's Palm between Ramah and Bethel in the highlands of Ephraim, and theIsraelites would come to her for justice.	5 Se ne stava seduta sotto la palma che porta il suo nome, fra Rama e Betel, nella montagna di Efraim, e gli Israeliti salivano a lei quando avevano bisogno di un giudizio.
6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, 'Has not Yahweh, God ofIsrael, commanded, "Go! March to Mount Tabor and with you take ten thousand of the sons of Naphtali and thesons of Zebulun.	6 Un giorno essa mandò a chiamare Barak, figlio di Abinoam, a Kedes di Neftali, e gli disse: "Il Signore, Dio di Israele, ti ordina di andare ad arruolare sul monte Tabor diecimila uomini delle tribù di Neftali e di Zabulon e di portarli con te;
7 I shall entice Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to encounter you at the Torrent of Kishon with hischariots and troops; and I shal put him into your power"? '	7 dice che condurrà davanti a te, al fiume Kison, Sisara, comandante dell'esercito di Iabin, con i suoi carri e le sue truppe e li darà nelle tue mani".
8 Barak replied, 'If you come with me, I shall go; if you will not come, I shal not go, for I do not know howto choose the day when the angel of Yahweh will grant me success.'	8 Barak le disse: "Se verrai con me, ci andrò; ma se tu non verrai con me, io non mi muoverò".
9 'I shall go with you then,' she said, 'but, the way you are going about it, the glory wil not be yours; forYahweh wil deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.' Deborah then stood up and went with Barak to Kedesh.	9 Rispose Debora: "Vengo senz'altro, solo che la gloria dell'impresa alla quale ti accingi non sarà tua perché il Signore darà Sisara nelle mani di una donna". E Debora si mosse e andò a Kedes con Barak.
10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali. Ten thousand men marched behind him, and Deborah wentwith him.	10 Barak, radunata in Kedes la gente di Zabulon e di Neftali, mosse alla testa di diecimila uomini e Debora andò con lui.
11 Heber the Kenite had parted company with the tribe of Kain and with the sons of Hobab, father-in-lawof Moses; he had pitched his tent near the Oak of Zaanannim, not far from Kedesh.	11 Eber il kenita si era separato dai Keniti, discendenti da Obab, suocero di Mosè: così era arrivato a porre la sua tenda alla quercia di Saannaim, che è vicino a Kedes.
12 Sisera was informed that Barak son of Abinoam had encamped on Mount Tabor.	12 Quando Sisara seppe che Barak, figlio di Abinoam, era giunto sul monte Tabor,
13 Sisera summoned all his chariots -- nine hundred iron chariots -- and al the troops he had, fromHarosheth-ha-Goi m to the Torrent of Kishon.	13 radunò tutti i suoi carri da guerra, novecento carri di ferro, e tutti i suoi uomini e li guidò da Caroset-Goim al torrente Kison.
14 Deborah said to Barak, 'Up! For today is the day when Yahweh has put Sisera into your power. Is notYahweh marching at your head?' And Barak charged down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men behindhim.	14 Disse allora Debora a Barak: "Avanti, ché questo è il giorno in cui il Signore darà Sisara nelle tue mani; egli marcia davanti a te". Barak scese dal monte Tabor e i suoi diecimila uomini lo seguirono.
15 At Barak's advance, Yahweh struck terror into Sisera, all his chariots and his entire army. Sisera leaptdown from his chariot and fled on foot.	15 Allora il Signore gettò nel terrore e travolse Sisara, tutti i suoi carri e tutto il suo esercito, che fu massacrato davanti a Barak. Sisara scese dal carro e continuò la sua fuga a piedi.
16 Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-ha-Goiim. Sisera's whole army fel bythe edge of the sword; not one man was spared.	16 Barak inseguì i carri da guerra e la fanteria fino a Caroset-Goim: tutto l'esercito di Sisara fu passato a fil di spada e non si salvò nessuno.
17 Sisera meanwhile fled on foot towards the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. For there waspeace between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.	17 Fuggendo a piedi, Sisara si diresse alla tenda di Giaele, moglie di Eber il kenita, perché c'era pace fra Iabin, re di Azor, e la casa di Eber il kenita.
18 Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, 'Stay here, my lord, with me; do not be afraid!' Hestayed with her in her tent, and she covered him with a rug.	18 Giaele uscì incontro a Sisara e gli disse: "Vieni, signore, vieni da me e non temere". Questi entrò nella tenda di Giaele, che gli offrì di nasconderlo sotto un grosso panno.
19 He said to her, 'Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.' She opened the skin of milk,gave him some to drink and covered him up again.	19 Sisara intanto chiedeva di dargli da bere un po' d'acqua, perché aveva sete, ed essa, aperto l'otre del latte, lo fece bere e lo coprì.
20 Then he said to her, 'Stand at the tent door, and if anyone comes and questions you -- if he asks, "Isthere a man here?" say, "No." '	20 Sisara le disse: "Mettiti alla porta della tenda e se qualcuno verrà a domandarti se qui c'è un uomo, rispondi di no".
21 But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent-peg and picked up a mallet; she crept up softly to him and drovethe peg into his temple right through to the ground. He was lying fast asleep, worn out; and so he died.	21 Ma Giaele, moglie di Eber, prese un piolo della tenda e, impugnato il martello, rientrò piano piano dove giaceva Sisara: gli piantò nella tempia il piolo che si conficcò nel suolo. Su Sisara, che si era addormentato profondamente, calarono le tenebre e morì.
22 And now Barak came up in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to meet him and said, 'Come in, and I wilshow you the man you are looking for.' He went into her tent; and there was Sisera dead, with the tent-pegthrough his temple.	22 Ed ecco giungere Barak all'inseguimento di Sisara. Giaele gli uscì incontro e gli disse: "Vieni, ché ti faccio vedere l'uomo che stai cercando". Egli entrò nella tenda della donna e vide Sisara che giaceva morto col piolo conficcato nelle tempie.
23 Thus God that day humbled Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites.	23 Quel giorno Dio umiliò il re cananeo Iabin davanti agli Israeliti.
24 And the Israelites bore down more and more heavily on that king of Canaan, Jabin, until he was utterlydestroyed.	24 La loro mano si fece sempre più pesante sopra di lui, finché non lo annientarono del tutto.
