1 Timothy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Never speak sharply to a man older than yourself, but appeal to him as you would to your own father;treat younger men as brothers,	1 Non increpare (e non garrire) all' uomo massaio, ma priegalo si come padre, e li giovani come fratelli;
2 older women as mothers and young women as sisters with al propriety.	2 le vecchie come madri, e le giovani come sorelle, in tutta castità.
3 Be considerate to widows -- if they real y are widowed.	3 Alle vedove fa onore, (quelle) che son veraci vedove.
4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they are to learn first of al to do their duty to their own familiesand repay their debt to their parents, because this is what pleases God.	4 E se alcuna vedova ha figliuoli o nepoti, impari (e imprenda) in prima a reggere la sua casa, e renda vicenda al padre e alla madre (facendo quello alli suoi figliuoli, che fu fatto a lei quando era piccola); e questo è piacevole dinanzi a Dio.
5 But a woman who is real y widowed and left on her own has set her hope on God and perseveres nightand day in petitions and prayer.	5 Ma quella ch' è vera vedova e abbandonata, abbia speranza nel Signore, e stia in prego e in orazione il dì e la notte.
6 The one who thinks only of pleasure is already dead while she is stil alive:	6 Chè certo quella vedova che sta in delicatezze (e in grande ricchezze) è morta.
7 instruct them in this, too, so that their lives may be blameless.	7 E a queste comanda, che si portino in tal guisa che non siin degne di essere riprese.
8 Anyone who does not look after his own relations, especial y if they are living with him, has rejected thefaith and is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Se alcuna persona è, che non abbia cura dei suoi, e massimamente [delli] domestici, a questa tale è negata la fede, ed è peggio che l'infedele.
9 Enrolment as a widow is permissible only for a woman at least sixty years old who has had only onehusband.	9 La vedova non sia ordinata (in signoria e) nel servizio in meno di sessant' anni, la qual abbia avuto pur uno marito,
10 She must be a woman known for her good works -- whether she has brought up her children, beenhospitable to strangers and washed the feet of God's holy people, helped people in hardship or been active in allkinds of good work.	10 e che abbia nominanza di buone opere, cioè se ella nutritte figliuoli, se ella ricevette (li poveri) ad albergo, se ella lavò li piedi alli santi, se ella si diede studio a fare ogni bona opera.
11 Do not accept young widows because if their natural desires distract them from Christ, they want tomarry again,	11 Le più giovani vedove schivale (ed evitale); imperò che quando elle hanno (compiute loro volontà e hanno) lussuriato, poi si vogliono maritare in Cristo,
12 and then people condemn them for being unfaithful to their original promise.	12 abiendo dannazione; imperò che fecero vana la primaria fede (e ruppero, ch' aveano impromessa).
13 Besides, they learn how to be idle and go round from house to house; and then, not merely idle, theylearn to be gossips and meddlers in other people's affairs and to say what should remain unsaid.	13 Simigliantemente evita quelle che son oziose, le quali vanno attorno cercando le case; e non solamente son oziose, ma eziandio son piene di parole, e son vane, parlando quelle cose che non si convengono.
14 I think it is best for young widows to marry again and have children and a household to look after, andnot give the enemy any chance to raise a scandal about them;	14 Adunque voglio che le più giovani si maritino, e menino figliuoli, e siano madri della famiglia, e che (non abbiano cagione di mal fare, e perchè) non diano all'avversario cagione di mal detto.
15 there are already some who have turned aside to fol ow Satan.	15 E già alquante ne sono ritornate (adietro, e vanno) dopo Satana.
16 If a woman believer has widowed relatives, she should support them and not make the Church bear theexpense but enable it to support those who are real y widowed.	16 Adunque se alcuno de' fedeli ha le vedove (in casa), dia a loro quel ch' è a loro bisogno, chè non abbiano gravezza gli altri fedeli, acciò che quelle che son veraci vedove possano avere quello che loro necessita.
17 Elders who do their work wel while they are in charge earn double reward, especial y those who workhard at preaching and teaching.	17 Quelli preti li quali soprastanno bene a quelle cose che debbono fare, son degni di avere doppio onore; e specialmente quelli che lavorano nella predicazione e nella dottrina (di Dio).
18 As scripture says: You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn; and again: The workerdeserves his wages.	18 Chè la scrittura dice: NON LEGARE LA BOCCA DEL BOVE CHE LAVORA, e: DEGNO È IL LAVORATORE DEL SUO GUIDERDONE.
19 Never accept any accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.	19 Incontro al prete non riceverai accusa non sotto due ovver tre testimonii.
20 If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest.	20 Quelli che peccano davanti a tutti, riprendigli in tal guisa che gli altri abbiano timore.
21 Before God, and before Jesus Christ and the angels he has chosen, I charge you to keep these rulesimpartial y and never to be influenced by favouritism.	21 Io testimonio dinanzi a Dio, e a Iesù Cristo, e dinanzi li suoi eletti angeli, che tu tenghi ferme queste cose, e non facci niuna cosa (senza provvedimento) in altra parte declinando.
22 Do not be too quick to lay hands on anyone, and never make yourself an accomplice in anybody else'ssin; keep yourself pure.	22 Le tue mani [non] ponere in capo [ad alcuno] così presto, e non ti accompagnare alli altrui peccati; ma guarda te medesimo (e dimora) in castità.
23 You should give up drinking only water and have a little wine for the sake of your digestion and thefrequent bouts of illness that you have.	23 Non bere ancora acqua, ma usa un poco di vino, per il stomaco tuo e per le tue spesse infermità.
24 The faults of some people are obvious long before they come to the reckoning, while others have faultsthat are not discovered until later.	24 (Che) le peccata d'alquanti son manifeste, sì che vanno inanzi al giudizio; e quelle [di] alquanti vanno da poscia.
25 Similarly, the good that people do can be obvious; but even when it is not, it cannot remain hidden.	25 Simigliautemente li buoni fatti son manifesti; e quelli che altramente sono, non si possono nascondere.
