Joshua 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Early in the morning, Joshua struck camp and set out from Shittim with al the Israelites. They went asfar as the Jordan and there they camped before they crossed.	1 Giosuè si levò di buon mattino; si mossero da Sittìm e giunsero al Giordano, lui e tutti gli Israeliti. Lì pernottarono prima di attraversare.
2 Three days later, the officials went through the camp	2 Trascorsi tre giorni, gli scribi percorsero l’accampamento
3 and gave the people these instructions, 'When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your Godbeing carried by the levitical priests, you wil leave your position and fol ow it,so that you may know which way totake, since you have never gone this way before.	3 e diedero al popolo quest’ordine: «Quando vedrete l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore, vostro Dio, e i sacerdoti leviti che la portano, voi vi muoverete dal vostro posto e la seguirete;
4 Between you and the ark, however, keep a distance of about two thousand cubits: do not go near it.'	4 vi sia però tra voi ed essa una distanza di circa duemila cubiti: non avvicinatevi. Così potrete conoscere la strada dove andare, perché prima d’oggi non siete passati per questa strada».
5 Joshua said to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves, since tomorrow Yahweh wil work wonders among you.'	5 Giosuè ordinò al popolo: «Santificatevi, poiché domani il Signore compirà meraviglie in mezzo a voi».
6 Joshua then said to the priests, 'Take up the ark of the covenant and cross at the head of the people.'They took up the ark of the covenant and moved to the head of the people.	6 E ai sacerdoti Giosuè disse: «Sollevate l’arca dell’alleanza e attraversate il fiume davanti al popolo». Essi sollevarono l’arca dell’alleanza e camminarono davanti al popolo.
7 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'This very day, I shal begin to make you great in the eyes of al Israel so thatthey will know that, as I was with Moses, so I shal be with you.	7 Il Signore disse a Giosuè: «Oggi comincerò a renderti grande agli occhi di tutto Israele, perché sappiano che, come sono stato con Mosè, così sarò con te.
8 Now, give this order to the priests carrying the ark of the covenant, "When you have reached the brinkof the waters of the Jordan, you must halt in the Jordan itself." '	8 Da parte tua, ordina ai sacerdoti che portano l’arca dell’alleanza: “Una volta arrivati alla riva delle acque del Giordano, vi fermerete”».
9 To the Israelites, Joshua then said, 'Come closer and hear the words of Yahweh your God.'	9 Disse allora Giosuè agli Israeliti: «Venite qui ad ascoltare gli ordini del Signore, vostro Dio».
10 Joshua said, 'By this, you are to know that the living God is with you and without a doubt wil expel theCanaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites before you.	10 Disse ancora Giosuè: «Da ciò saprete che in mezzo a voi vi è un Dio vivente: proprio lui caccerà via dinanzi a voi il Cananeo, l’Ittita, l’Eveo, il Perizzita, il Gergeseo, l’Amorreo e il Gebuseo.
11 Look, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth is about to move into the Jordan at yourhead.	11 Ecco, l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore di tutta la terra sta per attraversare il Giordano dinanzi a voi.
12 Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe.	12 Sceglietevi dunque dodici uomini dalle tribù d’Israele, un uomo per ciascuna tribù.
13 As soon as the priests carrying the ark of Yahweh, Lord of the whole earth, have set the soles of theirfeet in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan wil be cut off; the upper waters flowing down wil stopas a single mass.'	13 Quando le piante dei piedi dei sacerdoti che portano l’arca del Signore di tutta la terra si poseranno nelle acque del Giordano, le acque del Giordano si divideranno: l’acqua che scorre da monte si fermerà come un solo argine».
14 Accordingly, when the people left their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of thecovenant ahead of the people.	14 Quando il popolo levò le tende per attraversare il Giordano, i sacerdoti portavano l’arca dell’alleanza davanti al popolo.
15 As soon as the bearers of the ark reached the Jordan and the feet of the priests carrying the arktouched the waters -- the Jordan is in spate throughout the harvest season-	15 Appena i portatori dell’arca furono arrivati al Giordano e i piedi dei sacerdoti che portavano l’arca si immersero al limite delle acque – il Giordano infatti è colmo fino alle sponde durante tutto il tempo della mietitura –,
16 the upper waters stood stil and formed a single mass over a great distance, at Adam, the town nearZarethan, while those flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely separated. Thepeople crossed opposite Jericho.	16 le acque che scorrevano da monte si fermarono e si levarono come un solo argine molto lungo a partire da Adam, la città che è dalla parte di Sartàn. Le acque che scorrevano verso il mare dell’Araba, il Mar Morto, si staccarono completamente. Così il popolo attraversò di fronte a Gerico.
17 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm on dry ground in mid-Jordan, whileal Israel crossed on dry ground, until the whole nation had completed its crossing of the Jordan.	17 I sacerdoti che portavano l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore stettero fermi all’asciutto in mezzo al Giordano, mentre tutto Israele attraversava all’asciutto, finché tutta la gente non ebbe finito di attraversare il Giordano.
