Deuteronomy 27

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 Moses and the elders of Israel gave the people this command: 'Keep al the commandments which Iam laying down for you today.	1 ויצו משה וזקני ישראל את העם לאמר שמר את כל המצוה אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום
2 After you have crossed the Jordan into the country which Yahweh your God is giving you, you mustset up tal stones, coat them with lime	2 והיה ביום אשר תעברו את הירדן אל הארץ אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך והקמת לך אבנים גדלות ושדת אתם בשיד
3 and on them write all the words of this Law, when you have crossed and entered the country whichYahweh your God is giving you, a country flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, God of your ancestors, haspromised you.	3 וכתבת עליהן את כל דברי התורה הזאת בעברך למען אשר תבא אל הארץ אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך ארץ זבת חלב ודבש כאשר דבר יהוה אלהי אבתיך לך
4 'When you have crossed the Jordan, you must erect these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command youtoday, and coat them with lime.	4 והיה בעברכם את הירדן תקימו את האבנים האלה אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום בהר עיבל ושדת אותם בשיד
5 There, for Yahweh your God, you must build an altar of stones, on which no iron has been used.	5 ובנית שם מזבח ליהוה אלהיך מזבח אבנים לא תניף עליהם ברזל
6 You must build the altar of Yahweh your God of rough stones, and on this altar you will present burntofferings to Yahweh your God,	6 אבנים שלמות תבנה את מזבח יהוה אלהיך והעלית עליו עולת ליהוה אלהיך
7 and immolate communion sacrifices and eat them there, rejoicing in the presence of Yahweh yourGod.	7 וזבחת שלמים ואכלת שם ושמחת לפני יהוה אלהיך
8 On these stones you must write al the words of this Law; cut them careful y.'	8 וכתבת על האבנים את כל דברי התורה הזאת באר היטב
9 Moses and the levitical priests then said to al Israel: 'Be silent, Israel, and listen. Today you havebecome a people for Yahweh your God.	9 וידבר משה והכהנים הלוים אל כל ישראל לאמר הסכת ושמע ישראל היום הזה נהיית לעם ליהוה אלהיך
10 You must listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and observe the commandments and laws which Iam laying down for you today.'	10 ושמעת בקול יהוה אלהיך ועשית את מצותו ואת חקיו אשר אנכי מצוך היום
11 That day Moses gave the people this order:	11 ויצו משה את העם ביום ההוא לאמר
12 'When you have crossed the Jordan, the fol owing wil stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people:Simeon and Levi, Judah and Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin.	12 אלה יעמדו לברך את העם על הר גרזים בעברכם את הירדן שמעון ולוי ויהודה ויששכר ויוסף ובנימן
13 And the fol owing wil stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad and Asher, Zebulun, Dan andNaphtali.	13 ואלה יעמדו על הקללה בהר עיבל ראובן גד ואשר וזבולן דן ונפתלי
14 The Levites wil then speak, proclaiming loudly to al the Israelites:	14 וענו הלוים ואמרו אל כל איש ישראל קול רם
15 "Accursed be anyone who makes a carved or cast idol, a thing detestable to Yahweh, a workman'sartefact, and sets it up in secret." And the people are al to respond by saying, Amen.	15 ארור האיש אשר יעשה פסל ומסכה תועבת יהוה מעשה ידי חרש ושם בסתר וענו כל העם ואמרו אמן
16 "Accursed be anyone who treats father or mother dishonourably." And the people must al say,Amen.	16 ארור מקלה אביו ואמו ואמר כל העם אמן
17 "Accursed be anyone who displaces a neighbour's boundary mark." And the people must al say,Amen.	17 ארור מסיג גבול רעהו ואמר כל העם אמן
18 "Accursed be anyone who leads the blind astray on the road." And the people must al say, Amen.	18 ארור משגה עור בדרך ואמר כל העם אמן
19 "Accursed be anyone who violates the rights of the foreigner, the orphan and the widow." And thepeople must al say, Amen.	19 ארור מטה משפט גר יתום ואלמנה ואמר כל העם אמן
20 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his father's wife and withdraws the skirt of hisfather's cloak from her." And the people must all say, Amen.	20 ארור שכב עם אשת אביו כי גלה כנף אביו ואמר כל העם אמן
21 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with any kind of animal." And the people must allsay, Amen.	21 ארור שכב עם כל בהמה ואמר כל העם אמן
22 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his sister, the daughter of his father or of hismother." And the people must al say, Amen.	22 ארור שכב עם אחתו בת אביו או בת אמו ואמר כל העם אמן
23 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother-in-law." And the people must alsay, Amen.	23 ארור שכב עם חתנתו ואמר כל העם אמן
24 "Accursed be anyone who secretly strikes down his neighbour." And the people must al say, Amen.	24 ארור מכה רעהו בסתר ואמר כל העם אמן
25 "Accursed be anyone who accepts a bribe to take an innocent life." And the people must al say,Amen.	25 ארור לקח שחד להכות נפש דם נקי ואמר כל העם אמן
26 "Accursed be anyone who does not make the words of this Law effective by putting them intopractice." And the people must al say, Amen.'	26 ארור אשר לא יקים את דברי התורה הזאת לעשות אותם ואמר כל העם אמן
