Sirach 49

1 The memory of Josiah is like blended incense prepared by the perfumer's art; it is as sweet as honey toal mouths, and like music at a wine feast.	1 La memoria di Iosia in compimento d' odore è fatta opera d'unguentario.
2 He took the right course, of converting the people, he rooted out the iniquitous abominations,	2 In ogni bocca, sì come miele, indolcirae la sua memoria, e sì come musica nel convito del vino.
3 he set his heart on the Lord, in godless times he upheld the cause of religion.	3 Elli fue dirizzato divinamente nella penitenza della gente, e tolse via l'abominazione della crudeltade.
4 Apart from David, Hezekiah and Josiah, they al heaped wrong on wrong, they abandoned the Law ofthe Most High: the kings of Judah disappeared;	4 E governoe al Signore il cuore suo, e nelli di delli peccatori sì fortificoe la pietade.
5 for they handed their power over to others and their honour to a foreign nation.	5 Eccetti David ed Ezechia e Iosia, tutti li re commisono peccato.
6 The holy, chosen city was burnt down, her streets were left deserted,	6 Però che li. (potenti) re di Giuda abbandonarono la legge dell' Altissimo, (li re di Giuda mancorono), e dispregiarono il timore di Dio.
7 as Jeremiah had predicted; for they had il -treated him, though consecrated a prophet in his mother'swomb, to tear up and afflict and destroy, but also to build up and to plant.	7 Egli dierono lo regno suo alli strani, e la gloria sua alla straniera gente.
8 Ezekiel saw a vision of glory which God showed to him above the chariot of the great winged creatures,	8 Accesono la eletta cittade della santità, e feciono deserte le vie sue nella mano di Ieremia.
9 for he mentioned the enemies in the downpour to the advantage of those who fol ow the right way.	9 Male trattarono colui il quale fue nel ventre della madre consecrato profeta (e fue ordinato da Dio) a travagliare, perdere, e da capo edificare e rinnovare.
10 As for the twelve prophets, may their bones flower again from the tomb, since they have comfortedJacob and redeemed him in faith and hope.	10 Ezechiel (in visione) vide il conspetto della gloria, la quale il Cherubino li mostroe nel carro.
11 How shal we extol Zerubbabel? He was like a signet ring on the right hand,	11 Elli commemorò li nimici nella piova (commise), e di bene fare a coloro che mostrarono diritte vie.
12 so too was Joshua son of Jozadak; they who in their days built the Temple and raised a sanctuarysacred to the Lord, destined to everlasting glory.	12 E l'ossa di XII profeti pollulano dal luogo suo; però che fortificarono Iacob, e ricomperarono sè nella fede della virtude (sua).
13 Great too is the memory of Nehemiah, who rebuilt our wal s which lay in ruins, erected the boltedgates and rebuilt our houses.	13 Come amplificheremo noi Zorobabel? però ch' egli è sì come uno segnale nella destra mano (d' Israel);
14 No one else has ever been created on earth to equal Enoch, for he was taken up from earth.	14 e Iesù figliuolo di Iosedec? li quali nelli dì loro edificorono la casa, ed esaltorono il tempio santo al Signore, apparecchiato in gloria sempiterna.
15 And no one else ever born has been like Joseph, the leader of his brothers, the prop of his people; hisbones received a visitation.	15 E Neemia in memoria di molto tempo, lo quale ci rilevoe li muri stravolti, e fece stare le porte e li serrami; il quale rilevoe le case nostre.
16 Shem and Seth were the most honoured of men, but above every living creature is Adam.	16 Niuno è nato in terra tale quale Enoc; però ch' egli fu ricevuto dalla terra;
	17 e [quale] Iosef, che nacque uomo, principe de' suoi fratelli e fermamento della gente, rettore de' fratelli, stabilimento del popolo;
	18 e l'ossa sue sono visitate, e dopo la morte profetarono.
	19 Set e Sem appresso li uomini fama acquistarono; e sopra ogni anima nella schiatta d'Adamo.
