Sirach 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.	1 Non addiverrà male a colui che teme Iddio; e Iddio lo difenderà nella tentazione, e libererallo dalli mali.
2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.	2 Il savio non odia li comandamenti e le giustizie, e non fia percosso sì come è percossa la nave nella tempesta.
3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.	3 L'uomo che ha senno crede alla legge di Dio, e la legge sì è a lui fedele.
4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.	4 Chi apre la sua domanda, apparecchierà (a sè) risposta; e se egli pregherae, sarà esaudito, e conserverà la disciplina, e allora risponderae.
5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.	5 L'animo del pazzo, sì come la ruota del carro; il pensiero suo sì come legno dove si voltano le ruote.
6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.	6 Sì come il cavallo stallone, così l'amico schernitore, che dileggia sotto ciascuno che siede sopra a lui.
7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?	7 Per che avanza l'uno dì 'l' altro, e la luce avanza la luce, e l'anno l'anno, e il sole il sole?
8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;	8 Elli sono partiti per la scienza di Dio; il sole è fatto, e osserva il comandamento.

10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;	10 In essi Iddio esaltoe e magnificoe quelli, ed elli puose in numero di dì (e d'anni); e tutti gli uomini sono di terra, donde fue creato Adamo.
11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.	11 E nella moltitudine della disciplina [il Signore] li partie, e mutoe le vie loro.
12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.	12 Di loro benedisse ed esaltoe, e di loro santificoe, e a sè giunse; di loro maledisse e abbassoe e convertì loro alla divisione loro.
13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.	13 Sì come la terra in mano del pentolaio, a far come vuole e ordinarla;
14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.	14 (così nella mano di Dio farae l'uomo quello). Tutte le vie secondo la disposizione sua; così l'uomo nella mano di colui che il fece, e renderae a colui secondo la scienza sua.
15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.	15 Così come contro al male è il bene, e contro alla morte è la vita, così contra l'uomo giusto è il pecatore; così vedera' in tutte l'opere dello Altissimo; due contro a due, e uno contro a uno.
16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.	16 E io ultimo veggiai, sì come colui che coglie li grappi dietro allo vendemmiatore.
17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.	17 Nella benedizione di Dio sperai; e riempiei. lo canale, sì come colui che vendemmioe.
18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.	18 Guardate che io non lavorai a me solo, ma a tutti coloro che cercano disciplina.
19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!	19 Uditemi, grandi e tutti li popoli; e, rettori della chiesa, apprendete colli orecchi.
20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.	20 Non dare signoria sopra te, in tua vita, a figliuolo o a moglie, o a fratello o ad amico; e non dare ad altrui le tue possessioni, acciò che per avventura tu non te ne penti, e prieghi poi ch' elle ti sieno rendute.
21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;	21 Nullo uomo ti muti di questo proponimento, infino che tu vivi.
22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.	22 Egli è meglio che i figliuoli ti prieghino, che tu caggi alle mani loro.
23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.	23 Sii eccellente in tutte l' opere tue.
24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.	24 E non maculare la fama tua. Distribuisci la ereditade tua nel dì della fine de' di della vita tua, e nel tempo della tua morte.
25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.	25 Cibi e verga e peso all' asino; pane e disciplina e opera al servo.
26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.	26 Opera nella disciplina, e cerca di riposarsi; isnodagli le mani, egli cercherà d'essere libero.
27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.	27 Il giogo e freno piegano il duro collo, e le continue operazioni piegano il servo.
28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.	28 Al servo malevolo si conviene tormento e ceppi; mettilo in opera, che non si stia.
29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.	29 La oziositade insegnoe molta malizia.
30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.	30 E mettilo in opera, però che si conviene a colui. E se egli non ubbidisce, ponilo co' piedi nelli ceppi, e non gli dare larghezza sopra ogni uomo; ma sanza deliberazione non fare alcuna cosa grave.
31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.	31 Se tu hai servo fedele, siati quasi l'anima tua; e trattalo come fratello, per che tu l' hai comperato nel sangue dell' anima.
32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.	32 Se tu gli farai male a torto, egli si volterae a fuggire.
33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?	33 E se insuperbiendo se n'anderà, di cui cercherai tu, e in quale via, nollo sai.
