[Prayer Of Moses, man of God] Lord, you have been our refuge from age to age. | 1 Laus cantici David. Qui habitat in adjutorio Altissimi, in protectione Dei cæli commorabitur. |
Before the mountains were born, before the earth and the world came to birth, from eternity to eternityyou are God. | 2 Dicet Domino : Susceptor meus es tu, et refugium meum ; Deus meus, sperabo in eum. |
You bring human beings to the dust, by saying, 'Return, children of Adam.' | 3 Quoniam ipse liberavit me de laqueo venantium, et a verbo aspero. |
A thousand years are to you like a yesterday which has passed, like a watch of the night. | 4 Scapulis suis obumbrabit tibi, et sub pennis ejus sperabis. |
You flood them with sleep -- in the morning they wil be like growing grass: | 5 Scuto circumdabit te veritas ejus : non timebis a timore nocturno ; |
in the morning it is blossoming and growing, by evening it is withered and dry. | 6 a sagitta volante in die, a negotio perambulante in tenebris, ab incursu, et dæmonio meridiano. |
For we have been destroyed by your wrath, dismayed by your anger. | 7 Cadent a latere tuo mille, et decem millia a dextris tuis ; ad te autem non appropinquabit. |
You have taken note of our guilty deeds, our secrets in the ful light of your presence. | 8 Verumtamen oculis tuis considerabis, et retributionem peccatorum videbis. |
Al our days pass under your wrath, our lives are over like a sigh. | 9 Quoniam tu es, Domine, spes mea ; Altissimum posuisti refugium tuum. |
The span of our life is seventy years -- eighty for those who are strong -- but their whole extent isanxiety and trouble, they are over in a moment and we are gone. | 10 Non accedet ad te malum, et flagellum non appropinquabit tabernaculo tuo. |
Who feels the power of your anger, or who that fears you, your wrath? | 11 Quoniam angelis suis mandavit de te, ut custodiant te in omnibus viis tuis. |
Teach us to count up the days that are ours, and we shal come to the heart of wisdom. | 12 In manibus portabunt te, ne forte offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum. |
Come back, Yahweh! How long must we wait? Take pity on your servants. | 13 Super aspidem et basiliscum ambulabis, et conculcabis leonem et draconem. |
Each morning fill us with your faithful love, we shal sing and be happy all our days; | 14 Quoniam in me speravit, liberabo eum ; protegam eum, quoniam cognovit nomen meum. |
let our joy be as long as the time that you afflicted us, the years when we experienced disaster. | 15 Clamabit ad me, et ego exaudiam eum ; cum ipso sum in tribulatione : eripiam eum, et glorificabo eum. |
Show your servants the deeds you do, let their children enjoy your splendour! | 16 Longitudine dierum replebo eum, et ostendam illi salutare meum. |
May the sweetness of the Lord be upon us, to confirm the work we have done! |
